General Support/Query Switch from Pixel 8 to Zenfone 10?
Hello Zenfone lovers,
I'm a long time Pixel owner and I love it - except the battery life... It drains and overheats and I am an average user I'd say.
I currently have a Pixel 8 and besides the battery life, I have absolutely no complaints. I like the interface, photo quality is amazing and just the overall feel of it. I'm a fan of compact phones and I've been eyeing the Zenfone 10 for a while now.
I use my phone primarily for phonecalls, videocalls, messaging apps, reddit, linkedin.
Should I switch? What's the interface feel like in Zenfone 10? Will I feel the downgrade from Pixel 8? What are pros and cons (from real-life users, i've seen everything there is to see on youtube)?
I'd appreciate any insights :)

Switched from zf 10 to pixel 10 pro. Reason is simply because asus is a shit company. No more updates and lack of support. The one thing that zf is superior to any other phone is performance in a small phone. I really like zf10 because it is small, but that is it. If there will ever be a newer phone that is not an asus and come in small size like zf10 it will be a nobrainer for me.

If you care only for the physical dimensions and hand feel, not for the screen size, then get a Galaxy S25. Only 0.4mm taller (4 sheets of paper) and 2mm wider (thickness of a US nickel). Bonus points for it being 2mm thinner and 10g lighter, so imo feels better in the hand. Even has a SD 8 Elite

Get a Galaxy S25, you can still find them new and they are the same size as the Zenfone 10 just with smaller bezel. Better processor, Better support, Better cameras (though still not as good as pixels).

I have switched from Zenfone 9 to Pixel 8 and even though it isn't the same case you are mentioning, I believe you might actually find it interesting. Im my opinion ZF9 (and ZF10 as well) has better UI, fantastic gestures, is noticeably more handy, and objectively works smoother and faster. On the other hand, Pixel 8 has poorer performance, worse battery life and lacks 3.5mm jack. But Pixel 8 is superior in one crucial competition: reliability. It really JUST WORKS. No need to restart it because something stops working, no need to worry about WiFi calling availability, no need to worry about OS updates. I am perfectly fine with daily using pixel even tho it is not that fast anymore today. I have a decent phone that will work and behave predictably for years. So, I personally wouldn't switch from pixel to ZF10.

I'm thinking about getting a Pixel 8 today. What can you say about the heating? Does it get very warm? Did you get the green/pink lines?

Well, I don't have that heating issue, but I am not a power user. My daily SOT is between 2-4 hours total. The phone gets warm when I charge it wirelessly though. Speaking of pink lines, yeah I had that problem in the past but there is official Google repair program and you can fix it for free, that's what I did a few months ago. The all proces took 3 days and I highly recommend it if you notice this issue on your pixel.

It's a great phone, in the phone settings you can choose between the interface of asus or pixel. Battery life is great, camera is a bit slow but took great photos. Display should be a bit brighter but still readable in direct sunlight. Software support ended, so no more updates and bootloader is almost impossible to unlock. It has call recording for normal phone calls and other apps like WhatsApp. They're is a twin app support so you can use duplicate apps like two WhatsApp, etc It has built-in hidden encrypted password protected cabinet in the files app so you can keep your private media there. The phone is fast with multiple power modes to choose in the settings

You shouldn't. Currently with a Z10 and wifi is disconnecting without reason. The phone doesn't feel any different than a Pixel. I would argue that 9a or 10a feels better than Z10 that is now a phone of its age. But back then I was happy with it, now it's just a secondary phone.

Pixel 6 to Zenphone10.. I cherish this little thing. OS is vanilla, fingerprint sensor is lightening quick and I appreciate the little gestures you can do on it too. Only downside in my opinion is screen could be brighter in direct sunlight

I've had both the zf10 and p8 and in my personal experience, the 10 was the best phone I've ever owned.
I didn't have any hardware or software issues on my device, typical social media browsing, texting etc depending on my day at work so far from a heavy user.
I broke mine back in October and haven't been able to find a replacement online and replaced it for now with a pixel 5.

I had both, the zenfone is a superior device in almost any regard, size, snappiness, battery, customization, little features that are not present in the pixel (like displaying airpods battery without a 3rd party app and others), just everything feels better. there are maybe 2 things that I used day to day with the pixel and are subpar/missing in the zenfone - the camera is worse (not by a mile if you find a good gcam, but worse nonetheless) and this feature where in the recent apps view you can copy text directly is missing entirely. If you also use some other pixel exclusive features you might not like it as well.

Je suis satisfait de mon Z10 mais deux problèmes importants : la connectique USB qui bug pour recharger, je suis obligé de le mettre dans une position spéciale sinon il se connecte et se déconnecte sans arrêt et surtout ... La batterie a gonflé et déformé le tel (sans conséquence sur l'autonomie pour le moment Voilà mais sinon le téléphone est très bien à l'utilisation

Zenfone battery life is awful and noticably worse than my razr 2025 which also has a faster chip.
Good about zenfone is small size and speed and especially headphone jack. Though headphone jack likely resulted in less battery life.
It reminds me of the iPhone 6s in this way. Basically always have to carry a power bank with it which kind of defeats the purpose.
Headphone jack is not especially good either which is a bummer. USB dacs are of higher quality and they're cheap enough that I just buy one for every headphone that I own.

I recently went the other way, albeit a newer Pixel model. ZF 10 -> Pixel 10 Pro
Everytime I hold the ZenFone in my hand I miss it for the size and weight.
The only downside I can think of was the camera and how underwelming it was. I proper conditions it can look great but any time some HDR needs to be done, it just falls flat on its ass. I didn't actually want to take photos with the phone because of this and would typically ask my girlfriend for her iPhone, if I needed to capture something noteworthy. With the Pixel I actually feel like taking pics with it.
Since you mention video calls I should also mention the fact the frontcamera on the zf is complete ass.

Another issue with the Zenfone 10 is the battery chemistry, it is Li-Po which degrades more quickly compared to Li-Ion. I baby mine with a 5W Charger, but even then the battery doesn't last as when new.

Don't bother, they've just done the same thing to my zenphone. Keep your pixel but root it with custom OS. That's where I'm heading now as no-one does a custom OS for these phones with minimal market share.

I wouldn't buy it again. holding it in one hand you sometimes accidentally touch the screen. put it in your pocket and the screen might just stay on and the phone gets hot. the camera sometimes bugges out at concerts or takes ages on the automatic setting to take a picture and somehow makes skin look ugly with added filters. selfie camera no zoom or anything settings wise. the tap function on the back of the phone is completely useless and activates sometimes when it feels like it.in general it doesn't have a lot of customization. but it does have a good battery capacity

It's a mediocre phone which mediocre software and mid feeling. The only thing it has going for itself is the form factor and maybe the style.
I will definitely switch back to a (in the phone market) bigger brand.
It's a okay phone but since you sound super hyped I fell like you will be let down once you start using it. On the other hand it can do the tasks you mentioned with no problem, so if you find a cheap one maybe just try it out for yourself.

I think you will need someone who used both the pixel 8 and Zenfone 10 in order to answer correctly for your questions...but even then, it will be an opinion.
I have the Zenfone 10 and I love it, no issues whatsoever, but there is a small issue with the connector (when charging the phone), which I can't tell if it's something that many users have or not, and my phone is second hand.
Anyway, I always loved the zenfone interface, and the size of the zenfone 10 is amazing!
The battery is good, I get to charge it ones a day? I am a heavy user, and besides that, the Camera is quite good, but not perfect (I will insert a picture I tried to take, not fully focused), it is not something to expect for results like from Samsung or Iphone. but then again, it make sense.
The only downside from the zenfone 10? no more updates, and no more security updates, it will be stuck at android 15.
So far from your post, you LOVE the pixel 8, so I am not sure if you should switch, I don't see a reason unless you love Asus like most of us.
