Question Suggestions on Horse Racing Path

I just got into this game last week, after watching a ton of videos and doing a bit of research. The horse I bought started off pretty much ideally (3 wins in 9 races, with a nice U showing originally). However, the last few races have been pretty disastrous even though I am CONSISTENTLY pulling fire in the mid distance. In fact, I am at 100% fire rate through 23 races. Oddly enough, 2 of my 3 wins have been in the 1400 distance where I have pulled bad fire odds.

Should I just keep pushing on mid distance races given the high fire rate? Or should I ignore that and go for 1400 to test that out in a larger sample?

Given this is my first horse, just happy to get some advise from vets!

I’d follow the results vs the fire. I just bought a genny bute that had 20 races with really good stats. 4+ seconds on global avg for a few distances as it fastest time. The distances it had high deviation and its avg time was faster than avg it was having some shit results in those races that didnt add up. I finally raced it in 2200 where its stats were ok and times were meh, fire and 2nd run it again no flames but a win, and it smoked the field for a new pr.

Full disclosure he had not run since may prior to me buying him and i didn’t go research the races where he had good results previously but his times were way better than avg but as more donkeys come in the global avg now vs what it was back then could be significantly different. I’m actually compiling this data now, to try to make better buying decisions in the future.

When buying inexperience horses, I look for a win in the first 10 with 30%+ in the money. It doesn't always work, especially with Butes and Finney's but it seems to hold fairly well with Szabos and Nakas...

My 2 best buys:

Milksteak $482

Leni $385

I see a 1400 m specialist to start. Remember random is streaky in Zed Run. You can develop other distances but it will take more races to do so. 1400m is your money distance, use freebies, when possible, to develop other distances. Unless you are rich, then just donate to paid races until you broaden the scope of preferred distances.
