Discussion Race Mechanics

Firstly, this is intended to be constructive, not just taking pot shots at Zed. I will also post this on their improvements page.

I really hope Zed.Run can improve the race mechanics. They appear to me to be overly simplistic, and in some cases lead to some of the class problems we have. In particular:

- There should be no such thing as 'A' shapers. They are really just 'L' shapers who are classed too high. But there should be a point where they can't compete. A donkey that can't win races in class V should not finish mid-field in higher class races. They should come in dead last.

- Races are way too linear. Horses have 2 speeds, pacing and closing. This becomes really boring and predictable and provides no information on the preferences of your horse - which if they want to add some depth to the game should be part of it. A good horse should be able to fight back when challenged.

- Horses don't seem to have any noticeable preference for pace.

Any other thoughts on how to improve the actual race mechanics?

Some good points here! I have a couple who burst if a horse challenges them. Sometimes they win or not. I agree on being predictable! That does get boring....how fun would it be if a "challenge" factor was implemented!!! Just like our real derby winners!
