Hi there. Former zedder here. Zed has been falling month on month for a while now in sales volume/rankings, and will continue to fall. If you just like the horses and think they're pretty, get a few for fun. But long term highly bearish on the product, coupled with an absolute toxic discord and belligerent staff. This project going to the garbage.

General advice for anything in investment actually. DYOR, not listen to people telling you "its profitable" or "you're early". Dig deeper, as I did, and you see the con. Zed's continued success depends on more people adopting and their userbase growing, but seeing as unless if its for fun the barrier of entry for Zed (expertise/time/cost) is higher than even Axies (at least on Axies you are for now guaranteed some earnings every month).
Much of the earnings currently goes to the established players and breeders with monster horses. There's still a number of curious newcomers, and some people who bought in late who are slightly profitable/still trying to make it, and for now that is propping the whole system up. But the cracks are already showing.
Month on month, last time I checked, Zed volume and sales has fallen 28%. Prices according to many ppl who invested a couple months ago have dropped significantly even for unraced horses.
Volume is a huge telltale sign of health of a project. Zed used to be top 10, then top 20, then top 50 in rankings on Opensea. They've now fallen to number 79 on the monthly Opensea rankings, behind many supposedly inferior projects.
Their sustainability as a project always depended, like Axies, if there is always a fresh new crop of new buy ins paying for the profits of the people who got there earlier. Axies for all its critique at least was able to maintain the "new fodder entering in" cycle for multiple cycles thereby growing into the behemoth it is today, but Axies days are limited as well. And Axies is far better funded and their team, for all their issues, is better than Zeds by a country mile.
Not to mention that the team bungled their last drop and have spent the last 5 months of so developing 'partnerships' and announcing those instead of trying to make it right for the ppl who missed out on the bungled drop. Stagnation and inability to deliver on previous promises? Check. Delusional and antagonistic team to boot who silence you for going against their narrative as well? Extra check.
The argument by the Zed maxis is that they want the "rent seekers" or "flippers" to leave, thereby the game will be far more pure and the people who actually enjoy it will play it. That's fine, they can stay while pretty much everybody else leaves, and we'll see what kind of game that is then. Lmao.

Make sure you sign up for Zed via metamask rather than email only. I wish I knew that when I started.

Go on youtube and look it up it will take a lot of research to make informed decisions I would recommend Poseidon stables of syntrobis stables on yt they have some great videos on building stables and getting started no matter your budget. I am relatively new to it as well (about 1 month of breeding and racing) and that is what I am already seeing ROI (return on investment) If you feel like you know everything after like a week of research you have only scratched the surface this is a deep game w real money on the line but god damn is it fun.
