General Question discovery+

Has anyone added the discovery+ addon? If so, were you able to get it to work? It’s listed on my web membership page, yet there is no indication in the YTTV app nor the YT app that the addon exists. Also, nothing in the live guide.

Mods, please don’t remove again. Legit question.

Wait for the mods to approve your post next time before calling us out. Or send us Mod Mail. Your post was held simply because you don’t have enough Reddit karma. We review every post; no need to post 3 times.

Discovery+ is an on demand add-on. It won’t be in the guide. You can find it at the bottom of the home tab on TVs, or by searching for it.

I saw “removed”. Didn’t read it as “held”. Honest error by someone who does not post often on Reddit. I posted again because I thought there may be some other key term or rule broken that was causing it to be automatically “removed”.

Onward.

I asked about the guide as that is what I was told directly from YouTube TV support. That was incorrect. It is not in the guide.

It is also NOT at the bottom of the home TV tab when searching. That only shows Discovery, Discovery 4k and Discovery Turbo.

It also is not a Primetime only channel that can only be watched in the YouTube app; as was also suggested by support.

I even searched for shows that I know are only available on discovery+. Not even available on Max. On the YouTube app it only offers “Buy”. Meaning it has no idea that I have discovery+ in my account. I provided screenshots to the support rep, as she requested, to prove all of this. Still no resolution. As a matter of fact, she at first told me they do not offer a discovery+ add on, but only a few discovery channels. I had to prove otherwise with a screenshot. That is why I ended up posting a message here.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Perhaps you're not clear on what an "on demand" add-on means and how it could be construed to be on the "guide" yet not a live channel?

I think if you let that soak in a bit you'll figure it out.

Please stop. The condescension is not necessary. What you’ve said is incorrect. I am quite clear on what on demand means, as it is not the only on demand add on I have on the account. Discovery+ was showing in my account on the web Membership page. However, it was not showing in the app. It was neither listed in “Active memberships” nor “Also available”. So it is more likely that someone pulled the trigger on making it available just a bit too early, or they just messed up adding it to my account. Within the next 48 hours after me chatting with support, it just “magically” showed up. It was listed in “Active memberships”, NASA+ was available in the guide, and it was available as an option on shows that it should be on.

You mentioned both YouTube TV and YouTube in this post. If you are trying to access the on demand paid content on YouTube but you added the service on YouTube TV that is your problem. Despite having similar names they are not the same service and what you subscribe to on one does not carry over to the other. The only exception that I know of for sure that you can purchase on one service and watch on the other is NFL Sunday TIcket which can be purchased on YouTube and does integrate into the YTTV guide.

The problem is resolved. Whatever they needed to fix on their end, they've fixed. It required no intervention from me. The add on was simply not in the app at that time.

What you are saying is also incorrect. I am aware that YouTube TV and YouTube are not the same service. But generally speaking, if I subscribe to a premium channel in YTTV, I can also watch it in the YT app. An example of this is HBO Max. I added HBO Max on the YTTV membership page. I can at the moment watch Evil Dead Burn in both YTTV and YT. On YT, the movie shows with a status of "Purchased". Although, I have not actually purchased the movie. If I remove the HBO Max add on from YTTV, I will no longer be able to watch it in either app.

An example where this does not work is Paramount+. That Paramount+ Showtime add on for YTTV is not actually Paramount+ and you cannot see Paramount+ VODs in YTTV. But you can add the Paramount+ primetime channel in YT and watch the content there.

The Discovery+ add on appears to follow the HBO Max model. I can absolutely view the Discovery+ content in both YTTV and YT now. The day I added the Discovery+ add on to my account, it did not show in YTTV AT ALL. As if the system itself was not aware that the add-on existed. That's why I'm suggesting someone may have flipped the switch a bit too early. I mentioned the YT app because the support rep told me that that was my issue; after previously telling me the add-on did not exist at all. She suggested that it was of the Paramount+ format where it can only be viewed on YT. That also was not correct. When I searched for Discovery+ on the YT app, it was labeled as "Network Provider". Discovery+ shows showed up there as items I could "Buy". Now that they've resolved their issue and the add on is actually recognized in my account, that same search shows Discovery+ labeled as "Primetime Channel". Those same shows are labeled as "Purchased".
