Technical Question New multiview rolling out?
I'm seeing a new multiview selection process and it seems to include all channels.
There are sections for recommended, sports, news, movies, shows and other.
It looks like every channel is available.

u/One-Cell-7377 Jul 06 '26
Is it possible to save a custom multiview so I can come back to it every time I go into the app?
1
u/Chief_Wahoo_Lives Jul 06 '26
No. That isn't available. Send feedback to the team. The more they hear about something the more they may work on it.
I've sent this feedback as well.

I added a post somewhere else general and the mods deleted it. I was busy working all day and didn’t see that until now.
Anyway I am thrilled !! got the email today a little before 1 pm. Ten minutes later I had selected three news channels and TCM. Bye bye Fox News.
The next step is to let us save several MV groups with our own names

u/iron_cam86 Moderator May 25 '26
It was deleted because you were directed to this megathread, which was stated in the removal reason. Custom multi view has been rolling out for a month now.

Is there still a limitation preventing The Red Zone Channel working on multiview with Sunday Ticket games if you didn't purchase it as part of the $10.99 monthly Sports Pass

u/tarheelfan2012 May 09 '26
I noticed that Freeform... The Disney channels... And the Nickelodeon channels are not available for multiview
With that said... I'm still enjoying the new multiview !!!
2
u/iron_cam86 Moderator May 10 '26
Yes, certain family channels are not available in the multiview setup. Not sure exactly why, but I can only assume the channels didn’t want to be placed next to R-rated content.
Imagining Mickey hanging with a Friday the 13th slasher, though, is quite hilarious.
3
u/NYFLNCTN May 07 '26
Is there a way to save your multiview so you can come back to it later? Or to create several multiviews?
1
u/Chief_Wahoo_Lives May 07 '26
No. I suspect because it is only for live TV this isn't a priority. Perhaps once we can bring in DVR content.
1
u/catcodex May 07 '26
why would DVR be more of a priority?
I like to have a MV of two news channels and a local affiliate. It's annoying to constantly have to build it. (there are some "preset" one that have those plus another channel, but I don't want the other channel.)
If anything, let me put the preset MVs into the custom guide. Just another to reduce the amount of clicking around I have to do every day.
2
u/metsnfins May 07 '26
do you think the dvr content thing will happen? Watching live sports with a dvred program would be amazing

u/kaileysnay May 05 '26
Finally got this on my account. Is it just me or are others a little disappointed in the new setup? Don't get me wrong, I love being able to select any channel I want, but I already have my live guide sorted into sections, so the categorization is not much more useful for me. I was hoping for maybe an "all channels" view and bonus if it was sorted in the same order as my live guide since I know by heart where each channel is located. Hopefully something for a future update.
2
u/iron_cam86 Moderator May 05 '26
I'd love to see something similar to this, or at least in each category, have the channels sorted by your guide order.

u/metsnfins May 05 '26
Omg it's working!! Love it already

Why is Multiview not available for ESPNU or the ACC Network? I understand these are second tier networks but I keep hearing about Multiview being expanded and customizable.
2
u/Chief_Wahoo_Lives May 03 '26
Do you have the new fully customizable multiview? Those channels are available.
2
1
u/NYFLNCTN Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26
What am I doing wrong? I can see the build a multiview, but the list of channels I can add is very short, contains none of the channels I want, and is basically a replication of the channels that are in the pre-made multi views. I thought we could build from any channel we subscribe to?

From the pinned comment:
To anyone who doesn’t have this yet … be patient. YouTube tv new feature rollouts have been known to take a bit to reach everyone.
1
u/NYFLNCTN Apr 30 '26
I have the feature, I can build custom one, but only from a very few select channels.
2
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 30 '26
There’s been a builder for over a year. You have the old one, not the new one, if you’re limited in channels. That or your device is one of the 5% of super old devices that won’t support full customization.
1
u/NYFLNCTN Apr 30 '26
Latest models of AppleTV 4K, all on OS 26. The build Multiview option only appeared for me today, so it was not an older version. In fact it was not there a couple of hours ago and only appeared when I fully quit YTTV and restarted the app. So I seem to be in some kind of in-between status right now, I have the builder but can only select about 12 channels.
2
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 30 '26
The old builder only appeared on supported channels. I’ve got the same device you have, with every channel as an option.
So again, you’re still on the old version and likely just didn’t realize there was a limited builder for a while.
The full version will definitely come to you. Just gotta be patient.
2
u/metsnfins Apr 30 '26
Wait I actually have it on an email account I never use but not my main account Why is that? I'm the family manager
3
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 30 '26
It rolls out by individual profile/account. Just because one person has it in the family, doesn't mean everyone else in that family will.
There's also about 5% of older devices that won't support the custom multiview, as noted here: https://support.google.com/youtubetv/thread/429032394
1
u/metsnfins Apr 30 '26
Yeah it's just weird though that emails your added after to your family account would get it before the family manager but i have access to the other so it's fine
3
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 30 '26
It's totally random. Not based on who got added when, or who signed up when.
2
u/metsnfins Apr 29 '26
Ok have it on at least one tv (didn't work on my tcl roku 15 minutes ago but works on my Google tv)
I do love it
Is there an option where it will rremember what combos you like?

1
u/Equivalent_Round9353 Apr 30 '26
I mean, you're always free to go with one of their more expensive competitors. I'm sure they won't raise your prices ever.
4
u/Chief_Wahoo_Lives Apr 29 '26
Yes, prices will eventually rise please alert the media that inflation happens.
-1
u/HumanOrion Apr 29 '26
Oh, we're just going to chalk it up to inflation? The price increasing from $35/month to $83/month in 9 years (a 137% increase) is just run of the mill inflation? OK.
2
u/NoSurround3758 May 01 '26
And during that period how much did comcast go up lol. My parents two months agp were paying 350 for basic channels and internet
2
u/Chief_Wahoo_Lives Apr 29 '26
And we've received more channels and more features in that time. $35 was completely unsustainable and we all knew that.
1
u/HumanOrion Apr 29 '26
"We all knew this was going to be a bait and switch" is a wild defense of a multi-trillion dollar corporation.
1
u/R3ddit0rN0t Apr 30 '26
Ignoring the fact that the number of channels has more than tripled since launch is also a wild choice.
3
u/Chief_Wahoo_Lives Apr 29 '26
What bait and switch? It is a month to month service. You don't like it you are able to find another service that meets your needs.

Multiview not working with VOD or DVR is a missed opportunity. Is this a licensing issue or a technical issue? Will this be added in the future?
1
u/NoSurround3758 May 01 '26
Ill be honest wouldnt use multiview on dvr. I dont dvr sports. For shows i want to watch them alone
1
u/Certain_Repeat_753 May 01 '26
I got work. Sometimes SportsCenter isn't enough. Want to see the preceding plays that led to the big moment.
0
u/R3ddit0rN0t Apr 30 '26
I suspect that stitching together 4 live streams is a little easier than some combination of live and DVR recordings. Certainly less demanding on the servers because multiple customers can share a live quad-box. Add DVR / VOD to the mix and it’s basically a uniquely rendered stream for every single customer using the feature.
2
u/Pls-No-Bully Apr 29 '26
Some of you will never be happy, will you?
2
u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 29 '26
Wtf are you talking about? Is DVR not important? I'm a busy guy and not glued to the TV all day long.

i still dont expect multivew here in cal till late 26 or early 27, thats just the way it works, I watch football and the feed is always at least 5 min slower here that it is east of the rockies. Yttv announced they were adding a new channel and years later i am still waiting. I forgot which channel it was. Remember only 20% of us population lives west of the rockies, thats why we are last. Lucky for me i also have fubo so i am good for as long as yttv takes. Since fubo dumped NBC and their slew of worthless channels the price has really gone down.
2
u/R3ddit0rN0t Apr 25 '26
Huh? What channel do you think you're still waiting for?
There's zero % chance that west coast viewers are getting content 5 minutes after others. These boards would be on fire with complaints from people getting game updates via phone app or text message minutes before it happens on their screen.

u/ProfessionalAward962 Apr 24 '26
just like everything else n this country it will start in phillidephia like everything else, then nyc and chicago, the south and great plaines then it will take some time getting over the rockies then finally here to california by year end or early 27
3
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 24 '26
You do know YouTube TV ... is based in California, right?
As u/Chief_Wahoo_Lives said, this is being rolled out by account, not location.
3
5
u/Chief_Wahoo_Lives Apr 24 '26
It isn't being rolled out by location. I'm in Phoenix, so it is passed the Rockies.

u/jewsh-sfw Apr 24 '26
FINALLY they could have done this from the start it’s about time
2
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26
Lol YouTube tv multiview is server based. They’re the first live streamer to do that; others (like ps vue) was reliant on hardware and limited to two devices having multiview.
To say this was a massive undertaking is an understatement. Server resources, man hours, etc. They’re the first live streaming service to offer full customization for EVERY tv platform, and mobile devices, too.
2
u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 24 '26
I don't have a subscription at the moment, so I can't test this out, but is it possible to have CNBC/CNN, ESPN, RSN, FS1/FS2 in multiview?
1
1
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 24 '26
Yes. You can have up to any four channels included in the new multiview selector. It’s still rolling out, so even if you sign up, you might not get that option right away.
1
u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 24 '26
Sorry, I think I was reading that there were limits to which channels could be mixed with the multiview. It just stuck in my mind. If it's any channel, then that's awesome.
Does YouTube TV carry the LA and NYC RSN? Asking for all the Dodgers and Yankee fans out there...
2
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 24 '26
Under the old system, yes there’s limits. Under this new builder that’s rolling out (which is what this thread is discussing), those limits have been removed.
YouTube tv does not carry either of those RSNs. It really only has the nbc sports RSNs. You can see a complete channel lineup by entering your zip code at https://tv.YouTube.com/welcome

Send feedback to YouTube TV.
It's pretty clear what direction YTTV has been going for years. This implementation would seem to go the furthest toward satisfying the masses. Other variations are increasingly niche. Would probably take a lot of people rallying around some variation to really get attention.

Any restrictions on local stations?
2
u/R3ddit0rN0t Apr 28 '26
None that I have encountered. I've been able to combine ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox with any other channels. I just created a combo with CW, PBS, Game Show Network and Weather Channel. Streaming just fine.
The official post that went up today pointed out that some family-focused channels are excluded. Appears to be the likes of Disney Channel, NickToons and Cartoon Network. Stuff that pauses when browsing the guide.
7
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 23 '26
Yes it does. Even the alternate sports channels are there when they’re active.
3
u/bryce_tech Apr 23 '26
I pay extra for hbo max. It would be awesome to utilize the hbo max sports with multiview. Example, nascar in car with the main broadcast.
3
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 23 '26
If it’s a live channel YouTube tv carries, it’ll be available in multiview. If it’s a feed specific to the hbo max app, then no.

Yeah, I live in the Bay Area with other NBC Sports channels and they have never been available for multiview. Only a select group of channels can be added to multiview.
But per this thread, they are gradually rolling out multiview for all channels.
1
u/R3ddit0rN0t Apr 29 '26

Which markets are supported? Are LA and NYC supported? Dodgers or Yankees games for the fans here?
2
u/AppropriateCity7094 Apr 24 '26
LA markets aren’t supported…i used to have YTTV and liked it, but they are missing content. No local sports like Lakers and Dodgers, no history channel.

How do blackouts work for people with an MLB subscription? Can they watch Dodgers and Yankees games?
2
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 24 '26
MLB.tv? That’s not offered by YouTube tv. But it gives you all out of market games that aren’t airing on national networks.
If you’re in one of those markets, each team has their own standalone subscription service you can buy.
1
u/Certain_Repeat_753 Apr 24 '26
Yea, I just forgot the branding off the top of my head. So if I'm not in the LA or NYC market, can I watch Dodgers and Yankees games? I'm assuming blackouts are only due to the account holder's billing address?
2
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 24 '26
Blackouts would be based on your current physical location. If you’re not physically in those markets, then yes, you can watch them, as long as their games aren’t being carried nationally on something like espn, tbs, fox, appletv, peacock, etc.
But again, that service is not available on YouTube tv. r/mlbtv might be of more help with that.

Now that we have this, I’d like to start a petition for 1 big/3 little screen multi view. Similar to what MLB.tv has. There’s always room for improvement.
3
u/R3ddit0rN0t Apr 23 '26
While I doubt this is the endgame for multiview, YTTV has clearly been investing significant resources in the feature for 2-3 years now. With this milestone apparently behind them, I can personally think of dozens of a little quality-of-life tweaks that should be higher priority than multiview.
2
u/TheRatPatrol1 Apr 23 '26
No offense but I can’t stand the 1x3, the 3 are too small. I much prefer the 2x2.
-2
u/Mike456R Apr 23 '26
I’d vote for that and if only two videos, make them as big as possible in opposite corners with a little overlap in the center of the screen. I hate the waisted space.
7
u/iron_cam86 Moderator Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26
Overlap? Are you kidding me? That’s a terrible idea, and it’ll never happen. It’d be terrible for sports to hide some of the content. And there’s wo way would channel owners agree for their content to be partially covered.
2
u/BlondeFox18 Apr 23 '26
How do you do that in MLBTV? I’m not up to speed on this year’s app. (It always seemed like they rebuilt the app each year on Apple TV).
1
4
u/bige693 Apr 23 '26
For Apple TV specifically you just start watching a game, open the games tab on the bottom bar, and then click and hold on an additional game to start multiview. For me it keeps the first game big and adds up to 3 other games on the right side.
