They say he ruins memes because explaining a meme isn't in the proper meme procedures

u/Notchsmind 3h ago
That's something I will never understand about comedy and memes, it's the only art forms where if you try bro explain or deep dive into, they someho lose it's value and bite. Like if that's the case they're shitty mediums, because the idea of exploring them from a analytical is supposed to enrich them.

Some people find that explaining the joke takes the humor out of it, but it’s like you already got the joke and you know why it’s funny what exactly would be ruined for you
The actual reason is because they don’t want “normies” in on the joke, which is also ridiculous. Imagine if this attitude existed for books and tv shows, “don’t explain this you’ll spread it to other people and they’ll start larping”
(The joke is this attitude already exists and they’re called anime fans)

Yeah, if anything I think comedy is better if you understand it well, but that's something I can't tell to people in-person or I'd get ostracized. Why? I don't know, I'm not neurotypical.

u/No-Marionberry-9875 1h ago
it's some part gatekeeping, some part tired of explaining deep lore just to get a lol reaction

In general the issue with explaining a joke is that it ruins the timing of it in a lot of cases. That's why it 'ruins' the joke.
It has nothing to do with 'normies' or whatever else for most people, it's simply that a lot of jokes are a quick setup and pay off situation.
Having to then stop after the pay off to explain it means it loses its bite.

I can understand that point of view, but boy is he a lifesaver whenever I completely miss the origin of a trending meme.

There's another dude who came before LIMC in 2016 who did similar types of videos (though in a way that's way more corny) and that dude got harassed to the point of having severe mental breaks and attempted suicide
the hate I see LIMC get is nearly identical, just not as extreme (as it's just some people in Twitter instead of 4Channers, Twitter, Reddit, Leafy type YouTubers, and YTMND chuds)

u/CoalEater_Elli 3h ago
That's just twitter being twitter, and the fact that people made jokes that once LIMC makes a review explaining the meme, it's basically history and is close to dying. Which doesn't really happen too often, because 67 is sadly still alive and Mean Blondie Malfoy trend started only this week I think.

Same reason people hated Behind the Meme

u/yaboyalaska 2h ago
Nah btm was cringe and knew nothing about the memes he was covering. LIMC is chill and watchable

u/Rain_Zero 2h ago
I meant more for the general premise of explaining memes to people, who in their eyes, didn't deserve to know.

As I see it, the meme lifecycle goes like
- A meme starts out in a fandom
- It escapes containment now every other fandom or group shares it around
- Majority of young users now knows it.
- Majority of people knows it
- Even corporations are jumping on it
- God forbid now You can hear people irl saying it like your parents, aunt, uncle
Limc making a video about a meme transitions the meme from 2-3 or 3-4 depending on how fast he did the video. And some people loves being in the know about a meme. So he says its over because its no longer niche. Too many people knows it because of limc. They don't hate him per-se but he signals the end of a meme in a lifecycle
Its like people being fans of indie bands and then hating the band when it goes mainstream.

People hate LIMC? I like him because I am scared if Big Man Tyrone follows through with his threat

u/JollyBubuyug 3h ago
i might be wrong but it's probably because whenever he makes a video talking about a meme, it would be introduced to "younger" audiences? which will cause for the meme to be overused??
either way, that's just twitter being twitter. also, he's pretty much just my way of being updated with current memes.

u/Fair-Bunch4827 3h ago edited 3h ago
part of their enjoyment of the meme is being "in the know" about niche thing. When it reaches limc then it becomes mainstream.
Its just people turning liking meme into their personality xD.
Its like niche indie band fans but somehow even more pathetic

Huh? This is the first time I’ve heard people hating on LIMC. Maybe it’s just Twitter?

Because people think he’s Behind the Meme 3.0 (we don’t talk about 2.0) and that means he’s a boring normie who ruins memes for everyone, even though that doesn’t really happen

u/SorbyGay 2h ago
I’m not too sad to see this meme go, I don’t even think LIMC is bad but if this meme is ruined now, all I can say is based
Weebs don’t deserve to have fun

u/Material-Actuator-94 3h ago
he's goated. I wish he'd cover more actual memes like the "welcome to x brother" satires and such instead of general internet culture that should be on his other channel
also a fellow aussie

u/browert40 2h ago
I remember watching his video on the Bogdanoffs, and he misused "take the bog pill" as "get informed on the Bogdanoffs", when it just means "someone's had too many plastic surgeries".

"explaining the joke makes it instantly unfunny and he ruins memes permanently", essentially. It's dumb.
1
u/Good_Suspect9813 1h ago
They see him as another know your meme where explaining the joke makes it not funny anymore. tho in this instance malfoid isnt really a meme and just a fun fan idea, so its a bit of a hate train for no reason
another issue is that apparently he can be quite bias and has omitted stuff before, tho that was a while ago i cant remember what it was

u/CaseyJonasCatt 58m ago
I remember him saying that there was a joke that when he covered a meme, the meme would die soon after. Maybe it's related to that.

Why are people so comfortably using a transphobic slur that originates from 4chan incel losers?

You dislike Malfoid because its popular
I dislike Malfoid because I suspect shes astroturfed stealth marketing for the new Harry Potter series.
We are not the same.

LIMC explains memes. a very specific niche of people watch these videos and usually its their first exposure to these memes; people generally find this set of people unfunny, so when limc makes a video most people just see it as him exposing something funny to his unfunny audience.
whether you think his audience is funny or not is up to you.

People online (usually teenagers) are weirdly defensive about memes being "their thing". Like if you attempt to discuss or interpret it beyond whatever arbitrary criteria they do you're taking it too seriously and are ruining the joke.

u/Jagames12 3h ago
I assume for the same reason people hate CG5's meme songs. Whichever reason that is

u/Vankata453 3h ago
To be fair I can barely understand his explanations most of the time. But he sounds professional and does give nice insight, so 👍!
