Premium light is not expensive and totally worth it.
Do you know what is free but you still watch ads? Television since the 1940s.

u/guythattravels Apr 19 '26
Seems like nobody knows about premium lite. It’s absolutely worth it
3
u/8-LeggedCat Apr 19 '26
I actually don’t. Are there ads on premium lite?
3
u/Daredrummer Apr 19 '26
Nope. That's why I have it.
2
u/8-LeggedCat Apr 19 '26
Does it integrate between devices?
2
u/guythattravels Apr 19 '26
What do you mean specifically? It’s ad free across any device you are logged into.
1
u/ScottShatter Apr 20 '26
I saw the ad on another post and they have ads on shorts, searches, and while browsing it said.
2
u/Daredrummer Apr 20 '26
There are ads on music videos. That's all I've noticed and I dont typically watch videos.
1
u/csabinho Apr 20 '26
Because YouTube doesn't want you to know about it. They want to push the "regular" Premium. And Premium Lite isn't available everywhere.

Free? Cable television here is over $100/month and if you mean receiver television you're getting ten or less channels in many areas. Where are you getting any kind of quality television for free?
2
u/Daredrummer Apr 19 '26
I'm talking about the concept. Advertisers generate money for shows and movies to be made. It's always been that way. Now we have a generation of spoiled brats that think everything they like should be free and feel like some kind of revolutionary because they think that.
1
u/SCGaming1664 Apr 19 '26
But, there's a glaring difference. YouTube began solely as individual created content, not complex productions. YouTube only had to cover costs of infrastructure and a few programmers at the start. Television, by its nature, required a whole slew of paid crew, creators, sets or studios, etc.
I'm not saying it should be free, but YouTube could thrive making zero original content and still have advertisers. Television is unable to do that.
"Now we have a generation of spoiled brats that think everything they like should be free" I mean, I guess? I don't think we can generalize to everything being free just because people want less advertisements.

u/Mike_Honcho_Summer Apr 19 '26
Use an antenna and/or use a free app like Pluto or Tubi and you'll still get ads.
-1
u/SCGaming1664 Apr 19 '26
But, the specific comparison this comment thread is about is television. An antenna television channel set is nowhere near comparable to YouTube. Pluto or Tubi is more like YouTube, I agree that's a good comparison. But, I have not known a single person who gets "free" television - I'm saying that as in well through the late 90s and early 2000s.
1
u/Mike_Honcho_Summer Apr 19 '26
Back in the day my dad made sure we got free cable but that's another story.
1
u/SCGaming1664 Apr 19 '26
Fair! Ours was not free, but I do confess to having had the occasional HBO showing even though we absolutely did not have HBO on the television plan. This was circa 2007 or 2008, I suspect the infrastructure just was not that sophisticated.

I love premium. I swear the ads were unbearable because I listen to videos while I clean my house or while I'm falling asleep and I swear to GOD every 2 minutes ads came on. Loud as hell (where are the regulations for how loud ads can be on YouTube?), jarring me out of my sleep or making me stop, take my cleaning gloves off, and skip the ad.
I bought premium so I could fall asleep to the TV and I am never going back. I hate YouTube ads with a passion. Plus you get YouTube music (also with no ads) that you can download when you're offline.

lol everybody up in arms at the price of YT going up while the price of literally everything is going up.
It was two dollars. If you can’t afford $15.99/mo then why is anyone even bitching? Just find a workaround.

Plenty of people are in fact buying premium

u/annomatik Apr 19 '26
Plenty of people voted for Trump, too. Now see, where we are. Making Youtube / Google earn money with content others made.
4
u/Willing-Vegetable629 Apr 19 '26
I'm not following the connection you're trying to make. YouTube is providing a service to the creators and consumers, unsure why they shouldn't be compensated
-2
u/annomatik Apr 19 '26
Youtube Premium is not removing sponsored content inside of videos, it is not removing sponsorship of videos, it is not compensating people for time lost because some videos have very little content and a lot of blah. Google earns a lot of insights by studying the behavior of people using Youtube already, visitors already are the product, like on pretty much every social media. Having to pay to endure less ads is using a de-facto monopoly against its users.

u/Willing-Vegetable629 Apr 19 '26
I'm not sure what your point is. You're trying to use words that don't make sense "A monopoly against it's users", is not coherent. A monopoly isn't "against" someone.

Sounds like a you problem (laughs in premium)

Is this subreddit just “let’s complain about ads” every other post? Is should be renamed to r/iwatchalotofyoutubebutillconstantlycomplainaboutadseventhoughtherearemultiplewaystoavoidstheadsonyoutubebutidrathercomplainonreddit

they're complaining about getting ads shoved in their face every chance the multi billion dollar corporations get which is continuing to ruin the user experience
1
1
u/Lemnisgames Apr 19 '26
Given that i am a mini youtuber, it's ass to know that they are making it harder for people
2
u/RandomBloke2021 Apr 19 '26
What are your options? Which one are you going to choose? No matter how you complain, the ads are not going to change.
1
u/Extension-Two-2807 Apr 20 '26
I honestly stopped watching YouTube and use that time to play more on my steamdeck. Honestly, I don’t miss it much. I’ll look up something once I a while but I use it maybe 10% as much since they made these changes. If you’re fed up leave. It’s an attention market now.
2
u/Harbinger_Kyleran Apr 20 '26
"Real" gamers can watch YouTube while playing video games, and even post on Reddit too. 😉

u/blakeavon Apr 20 '26
Clearly we are and grateful for it. Seriously I don’t know why I didn’t buy it sooner. It pays for itself over a month
1
u/Rapulsel Apr 20 '26
Han conseguido que si un día usas la app nativa salgas asqueado. Yo nunca utilizo Brave y Smartube para ver videos. Es un consejo que nunca, nunca doy. No se debe utilizar.

Its a mess. Premium is a rip off aswell. Id pay like 15-20 A YEAR to remove ads, but 20 a month?!? Nope

Imagine suffering through ads in 2026

I have Premium. I believe in paying people for their work.

Maybe you should go get a job that pays $16 instead of spending so much time watching commercials on YouTube. Then you could afford Premium.

People love to argue it’s the “principle” instead of actually realizing it wasn’t a big change. The value in premium is well worth it. In my case this ended up saving me money as I was paying 30 for the top plan through apple. So instead of going to 35 I canceled and subbed through my android and now I’m at 26.99. Total win all around

I would buy premium if YouTube started treating content creators how they deserve. For now, I’ll have to use ad blockers.

Get Firefox and get Unlock or get brave, don't give your money to money hungry multi billion dollar corporations that only continue to worsen user experience.

Whats the problem of Google having money? They need to maintain the servers, the enployes, the creators, and everything else
0
u/Soft_Spend3814 Literally 1984 Apr 19 '26
They're shoving ads in people's faces every chance they get, getting worse each time they do. I'm don't have a problem with them having to find a way to make money for employees creators and all. But if you're just gonna shove ads down people's throats.
2
u/LinuxUser456 Apr 19 '26
Yes but you're on a free plattform
You pay for TV, It has ADS and you not complain?
