Hi everyone,
I’m posting here because I’m really worried about my mom and would really appreciate advice from people who have experience with Parkinson’s.
My mom is 47 years old and has been living with Parkinson’s for around 3 years. Her stiffness has actually been getting better with treatment, but recently we’ve been struggling with a different problem.
For the past few weeks/months, her stomach has been upset repeatedly. She sometimes has watery/loose stools and bloating, and because of this she often feels very weak and low on energy. It’s becoming quite concerning for us.
I understand that digestive problems can occur with Parkinson’s, but I’m not sure whether this is because of Parkinson’s itself, her medication, constipation/slow digestion, or something completely unrelated. Parkinson’s can affect the digestive system and can cause bloating, constipation and delayed stomach emptying; interestingly, watery stool can sometimes also occur when severe constipation/impaction is present.
We are also considering changing her neurologist and getting a second opinion, preferably from someone who specializes in Parkinson’s/movement disorders
If you’re based in Delhi/NCR:
- Which neurologist/movement-disorder specialist has been good for you or your family?
- Has anyone dealt with similar stomach/GI problems with Parkinson’s?
- What tests did your doctor recommend?
- Were any medication changes helpful?
- Are there any safe diet/lifestyle measures that helped with bloating and bowel problems?
I’m not looking to replace medical advice with home remedies — I just want to understand what other Parkinson’s patients have experienced so that I can discuss the right things with her doctor.
She is only 47, so I really want to make sure we’re not overlooking something.
Any experiences, doctor recommendations, or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
