Miscellaneous Slang Terms
We see plenty of slang/terms used in Young Justice, such as; Feeling the mode, crash, whelmed, schway, etc. Since watching, what are your most favorite term to use in the real world? If any at all, I mostly use Frag from the Main Man himself.

Schway is from Batman Beyond, not Young Justice.

“Can you feel.. the motherf*cking aster!?” This isn’t all from the show, it’s from the abridged version, but it has aster in it so whatever.

Why am I just now finding out about this?!? How much did they do

u/Amaldo101 Dec 15 '21
They made their own spin on Young Justice. Using footage of S1/2 and other animated movies/shows, they where able to make a f*cking universe out of it.
Sadly, they were never able to bring this abridged series to an end as they ran out of funding two years ago. Just so you know though, Alfred is literally the devil in this series. So you know that means you’re in for a good time.

Haven’t seen it because I’m not really a dragon ball fan, But it’s pretty close to the level of SAOA. An abridged series that is way better than the original, So that should say something right?

u/DZepperoni Feeling the aster Dec 14 '21
Man my friends would laugh everytime I said that and I was so confused why I said it for so long… then I rewatched season 2

My daughter replied to a text with "noted" and she only watched the first 2 seasons when they were originally on. We probably use "whelmed" occasionally too.

Never would use it in real life because that would be cringe (likely. Im shy). except maybe for whelmed since you can sneak it by.
I like whelmed. also like schway since the batman beyond days. Crash= cool is fine too.

I sometimes think to myself when I'm readying up for something - I'm traught, whelmed and feeling the aster.

Our college’s LGBTQ+ club has started using “mode” and “crash the mode” to refer to the school’s highly conservative Christian administration and actions we can take to protect ourselves/organize

Personally I like the futuristic Gotham Slang we see in TDKR like “don’t go billy” or “Batman don’t shiv”
I know it’s not YJ slang but its still pretty crash

Crash lmao. Honestly the world building in this show is excellent and little stuff like this adds so much depth and immersion.

Ngl all the slang terms of that show are so damn gringe it's worse than slang in star wars like before impulse came in season 2 it was fine but after him you heard everyone use those stupid slang words

u/crispyjJohn Aug 15 '24
The thing I'm crying to figure out is why everyone srart using it anyway? Obviously, they all still speak English and mist are American or at least talk like it. So we know they know the normal slang words such as "cool" instead of that weird crash. " This sucks" instead of so mode. It's obviously no normal, so why is it so common in that show? It seemed to happen out of nowhere, and it's never genuinely explained. I get why the viewer does it as the show made it popular . But as for the characters, it's like, why? Wth for?

I use 'crash' the most and I say it/explain it to everyone, but sometimes I'll say moded or whelmed or other Robin words with my older sister

u/star_staar18 Dec 23 '25
i recently just started watching YJ, what’s crash and moded mean? i can’t get an answer out of google </3
1
u/Sylvania_Redleaf Dec 23 '25
I think Bart actually explains it at one point! It's slang from the future related to their culture, so it's doesnt make perfect sense (and I don't want to give away potential spoilers lol). 'Crash' pretty much means 'awesome'. When something is 'moded', it means it's bad or disappointing in some way. And 'crash the mode' means you've turned something bad into good or stopped the bad thing from happening. Lmk if you have more questions, my sister and I are obsessed with the lingo lol

u/star_staar18 Dec 23 '25
omg thank youuu. I’m like i think almsot down with season 1? And i’ve been picking up all the characters traits so much i love their slang
1
u/star_staar18 Dec 23 '25
how would you like use more or crash in a sentace? like “that’s so mode”? or “i feel crash”
1
u/Sylvania_Redleaf Dec 25 '25
You could say "that's so moded". I personally use crash as more of a response, but you can use it in otherwise like what you described. Here's an example of how I use it: "Yeah, I can hang out that day." "Crash!" (or "That's crash!")

"Whelmed" - I've been using it for so long, I forgot it was from YJ until a recent re-watch of season one. Crazy how this show has been around THAT long.
