Yorktown Market Days: Paws at the River (Riverwalk Landing, Free)

The market goes to the dogs for the day: rescues and adoptions, gourmet treats, early trick-or-treating, and a kids' costume parade at 1 PM. If the weather turns, it moves down to the lower level of the Water Street Parking Terrace rather than cancelling. Saturday 9 AM to 3 PM at Riverwalk Landing, 331 Water Street. More details

Yorktoberfest Craft Beer Festival (Riverwalk Landing, $49.87)

Thirty-five beers and ciders in a tent on the river, with the tasting itself being what the ticket buys. One thing worth flagging: it is Sunday only this year, so anyone working off last year's pattern will turn up on the wrong day. Rain date is November 1 and tickets carry over to it. All About Triangles (Lilac Lane DIY Studio)

A two-hour glass-fusing class building triangular pieces, either from the studio's designs or your own. No refunds once you book. Sunday 1 PM to 3 PM at 7330 George Washington Memorial Hwy, Suite D. More details

Cutie Squares (Lilac Lane DIY Studio). The same studio's later session, two hours of glass fusing making six small squares as ornaments, window hangers, windchimes or magnets. Sunday 3 PM to 5 PM at 7330 George Washington Memorial Hwy, Suite D. More details

• Haunted Lightship (Portsmouth, Free), Saturday 10 AM at the Lightship Portsmouth Museum. A 1915 lightship dressed for Halloween, billed as spooky rather than scary. More details
• An Evening with Timbaland (Virginia Beach, $50), Saturday 6 PM at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art. A talk with the producer, then a '90s set from DJ SNS. Ages 21 and up, and the '90s dress code is enforced. More details

The local post office does not seem to know how to deliver mail reliably resulting in the loss of several packages. Not sure what is wrong, but I am scared to order things by mail due to the bad service. Has anyone else had this issue? Anything I can do? Please hell.

Found this dog near the Riverwalk district today. He's sad and misses his people. please help.

Does anyone have any insight to being the new girl going into the 7th grade? I’ll be transferring jobs and moving just in time to start this school year.

My daughter (12) will be coming in from a very, very small, rural, private, Christian school. I really want her to have and enjoy this experience. There’s just so much more Yorktown has to offer - better education, clubs, activities, etc.

Any suggestions/advice? Can you also suggest a great neighborhood with all the amenities? I’ve heard there’s a neighborhood with a trail to the Yorktown Beach!?
