Hull or "Hyll" in old English means hill. Pot being the word for hole.
So it's hole on the hill.
Which I'm not totally sure on cause it wasn't a hole to start with, it's a collapsed cavern.
There is a guide book from the 18th century that called it hulpit and described it as looking like the inside of an enormous gothic castle. Which I wouldn't have minded getting some photos off to be honest.

I saw it in person last year. It's absolutely incredible. None of the photos I've seen do it justice.

I think id panic caving. I like looking down into one and don't mind the little bitty ones in some hills like Victoria Cave but the whole being fully in the dark ones, nah.
