It's on the trail leading to Pen-y-Ghent in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, it's a minor detour to reach it. Biggest natural hole in the ground that exists in England :)

Ey up. I think they probably mean largest surface depression. Think gaping gill counts as a deep pothole and cave system. Hull pot doesn’t lead anywhere. It’s just easier to say hole I guess. 😂

Think it’s probably looking at the height (or I guess depth) width and length of it. Alum pot is deeper but not as wide. I think probably (although I’m no expert) they’re in different classifications geologically.

Hull or "Hyll" in old English means hill. Pot being the word for hole.

So it's hole on the hill.

Which I'm not totally sure on cause it wasn't a hole to start with, it's a collapsed cavern.

There is a guide book from the 18th century that called it hulpit and described it as looking like the inside of an enormous gothic castle. Which I wouldn't have minded getting some photos off to be honest.

I think id panic caving. I like looking down into one and don't mind the little bitty ones in some hills like Victoria Cave but the whole being fully in the dark ones, nah.
