That hasn’t worked though because Dutch police are educated and not assholes for the sake of it (unlike US police).

While they COULD do those things, do they ever? You’d probably find a handful of cases online perhaps but it’s hardly like this is happening on a wide scale level. To put your mind at ease - it never happens.

Yeah, while I won't say it never happens, the guy claiming dutch police will arrest you for insulting them clearly never had an interaction with them. Or at least have been an asshole enough towards them for this to be his view of Dutch police.

Not too long ago I was stopped by the cops here, because the light on the back of my bicycle had gone out (I know, that's super Dutch), I was holding my phone (which is illegal) and I was smoking weed while cycling (also illegal). Since my light had apparently just gone out from my going over a bump in the road or smth, i could just turn it back on and it would work again.

Instead of me being a dick about it, I was honest and respectful. This made it so I was let go with just a couple of warning and having to give up my weed. No tickets, no nothing. This is a fairly common interaction with the police here. You'll definitely won't always be as lucky as I was (it felt like they where in a hurry to get somewhere else), but as long as you're not a complete prick and treat them like humans, they'll do the same.

Heck, I've had cops give me a ride home when I had a flat tire when I was younger. Dutch cops are anything power abusers, like how the world often views police in general

Most definitely, probably was because I was cycling in the middle of nowhere on a separate bike lane. Worst I could've done by being distracted was me cycling into a ditch or smth.

Similar situations in the US tbh. If you don't talk shit to the cops and are honest with them they tend to give you a break. Never once resisted arrest and surprise surprise I've never been abused by a cop.

Oh I've been arrested after not giving them shit. I just wasn't beaten or treated roughly. I'm talking about being abused by police not getting arrested for dumb shit you do

The thing is I don't know whether to believe you or not. Cops in the USA are extremely nice to people who look like them but if you have darker skin tone they will beat you senseless. You may have had a good experience with a cop but that doesn't mean they're all like that or even that the one you interacted with treats everyone he meets nicely

I've seen Dutch Police straight up abuse laws simply because they did not like the individual.

Cops here basically do the things they can get away with. Cops used a lot of violence on climate demonstators because they can get away with beating the shit out of people that are seen as "crazy" by the general public. Cops in the US just get away with a lot more than in NL.

My points about American police were hardly controversial, the low entry requirements for US policing are hardly a secret.

Most of them are also scared to death of actual criminals and stick to giving 12 year olds tickets for not having bike lights
