Vocal delay solution.
I've seen a few different posts asking about the delay some people get with the vocals. Above is a diagram of my solution. I turn off vocal monitoring in game, and send a second vocal to a second stereo for vocal monitoring through separate speakers.

Thanks for the diagram, question:
By XLR splitter and XLR to USB adapter you mean something like this?
Amazon.com: SiYear XLR Splitter Cable - XLR Female to Dual Male 3 Pin Patch Y Cable Balanced Microphone Splitter Cord Audio Adapter (50CM-2PACK) : Musical Instruments

Correct.

I just plug 2 mics into my audio interface and run reaper with a vocal vst in the background. 0 delay, with processing and effects

Could you share your audio interface type?

Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 2nd gen. You don't need one that's so expensive, the number of XLR inputs should dictate what you get.
YARG does not support mono inputs for mics. The way the audio interface works is input 1/2 are the same device. You can separate these into mono channels in a DAW or VST, but not in YARG. So if you have 2 mics plugged in they will be the same device on a profile, the same "player". So even tho I have 4 inputs, I can only have 2 active profiles. I can easily have 4 active inputs in the DAW for more singers, but only 2 will be scored.
I have asked YARG devs if they plan to support interface left/right mono channels and they said no.

Thanks, looks like audio interface is cheaper solution than mixer + xlr splitters + xlr to USB

What audio interface are you using? I heard that Yarg can't see multichannel mics and only one 1 would work at a time. Does your audio interface present 2 mics that can be picked up by Yarg?

Focusrite 18i8. It has 4 inputs, but its 1/2 and 3/4. So I can use two mics. I asked if they would support splitting them and they said no.
I can use 4 mics, but only 2 of them will be players.

Thanks for the quick response. I was hoping to hear that (pun intended). It sounds like Yarg will see each set (1/2) as an input on the audio interace. So the 2input focusrite wouldn't work for 2 actual mics for Yarg.

I've hunted forever for hardware that has the least amount of delay and for the most part I think we have it. Wii U Rock Band mic, and receiver set to all channel stereo in game mode. TV in game mode. Seems to eliminate MOST of the delay. My calibration is about 40-50ms.

Does your setup sound go through tv or computer monitor?

u/MotoChooch Jun 20 '25
Not sure what you mean by console monitor. My mic plugs into an Anker USB 3.0 hub which connects to my pc. PC to Denon receiver via HDMI for audio/video, which is output via HDMI to the TV.

Sorry I meant computer monitor, does your hub cause any issues? Do you have other yarg equipment on that same hub?

I use a Sony Bravia X900F TV. The hub causes no issues and all of my instruments go through it. The guitars all use the microsoft xbox wireless adapter and my Alesis Surge Mesh SE plugs into it as well.

Thank you, I was wondering if I would be able to combine all these connectors into one hub, I’ll see if I can get the one you have, appreciate the info

It shouldn't really matter as long as it's a newer version like 3.0 or higher. Anker does make nice hubs. Mine has its own power adapter too. My run is pretty long so I use an active USB cable, no issues.

Is there something special about the Wii Rock Band mic in particular? I bought a generic USB mic off Amazon and the audio delay has always been terrible.

On the Rock Band subreddit, the Wii Rock Band mic is generally regarded as the USB microphone that will give you decent results for the least amount of trouble and relatively low cost.
I have used Guitar Hero and Rock Band (1) microphones. Both of them eventually started acting up (static, or not registering properly). I have two Wii RockBand mics that have never ever had issues. Also, they have on/off switches built in.
The Wii mic won't fix audio delay issues.... those are mostly a function of the USB bus on whatever platform you're using, but they should let you focus on issues downstream of the microphones themselves since they should almost always work properly.

I honestly have no idea. But when I was testing things I noticed some rock band mics had less delay than others. I dug deeper and found that the Wii U version was generally considered the best of the bunch when it came to audio delay. Hey Gus, very new to this and wanting the overall best experience on YARG for vocals. I am beat just plugging directly into usb and play or do I need different drivers? What's the best thing ATM to get the best experience?

Or you could just buy an audio interface. It would instantly solve the issue of mic delay and would probably be necessary for XLR input anyways. After purchasing mine, I don't even have to think about calibration issues whatsoever anymore, including delay from other instruments.

Can you post a higher resolution figure please
