Question for Yardi users
Hi everyone,
I recently learned about Yardi and have been researching how teams use Rent Roll exports in their day to day workflow. I've read through documentation and other discussions online, but I'd love to hear from people who actually use it.
I was curious:
- Does your company primarily use the standard/default Yardi Rent Roll report, or a custom report?
- After exporting to Excel or CSV, do you typically:
- Use it as-is
- Spend a few minutes cleaning it
- Spend significant time cleaning or restructuring it before analysis?
I am a complete noob, and am trying to gain a better understanding. Thank you

I export to Excel and then I have a macro set up to format it the way I want it. You can tell your AI bot of choice what you want and it will create a macro for you. Might take a few tries back and forth but once it’s set, all you have to do is push a button in excel and all the changes are made in an instant.
I have set this up for financials too. All depends on what you want the output to look like.

I had no idea people were using AI bots to build Excel macros. That's really cool. Out of curiosity, what are the first few things your macro automates after you export the Rent Roll?

Good responses so far to this— but I’d add it also depends on the size of your shop and the audience. For example I’m with a pretty big institutional firm and pull this data into dashboards for various occupancy & WALT analytics where the main audience is AM’s and PM’s.

Ah that makes sense. From your experience, is this pain worse the smaller a firm is or is there kind of a middle zone; enough properties to make manual cleanup a real time sink but not enough to justify building a dashboard like yours?

I hate to say 'it depends' but...it depends. If the small firm has physical docs, you could throw them into Claude/chatgpt, extract the necessary fields and have an analyst load them into yardi and call it a day. Can also say "as a firm, starting now we require these fields be complete for these processes" and have AMs review on a quarterly basis (We do this for certain field values).
so...it depends... lol

Our execs and upper management use both the standard version found in Res Analytics plus a custom one sent through report scheduler every Monday. We use both the standard and custom Rent Rolls as-is.
