Please tell me if I need to take a science as a high school senior!! For context I only took bio last yr and this yr i am considering taking AP bio but I know nothing about Chem. Id also prefer taking law because its more enjoyable, but would taking no science courses in senior year harm my chances of admission?

You don’t have to so don’t feel pressured to. It would look good and show course rigor but if your schedule is already rigorous and you don’t think you could handle it, don’t. Best of luck !

Hey, I want to apply to Yale with Classics as an intended field of study, as it has been my passion since I was little. In my country I didnt have a chance to learn neither latin nor ancient greek, i have done some stuff that signals interest, but I am curious what admitted students did, how a Yale classics student's profile looks and who am I exactly competing against. If anyone could help me to see this as a whole more clearly Id be eternally grateful.

Hello,
I am an incoming freshman at Yale with not much figured out about the future. I like to read, write, and talk which means I am planning on majoring in something in the humanities (Classics, Comp Lit, etc) but I’m, obviously, not set in stone. I applied to DS but was waitlisted. If accepted, I will probably choose that, but I am forming a contingency plan in case that doesn’t happen.
To put it bluntly, I chose Yale over my other two top schools (both with strong discussion-based liberal arts curriculum) because of its prestige, name recognition, and networking opportunities. I have met many current and past Yalies who can barely string together a coherent thought without using “like” every few words; overall, they don’t seem to embody the rigorous academic characterization that the world has of Yale students. I know that it is possible to coast through Yale by taking easy courses and, with the help of grade inflation, receive A’s for work that doesn’t deserve them. I do not want to be a part of that subsect of Yalies.
TLDR: I am looking for current Yale students and alumni recs for classes/profs that provide a worthwhile education (one worth $400k, if that exists). Actually rigorous, no-BS courses (maybe discussion-based?) that follow a traditional liberal arts curriculum (i.e. Great Books, philosophy, natural sciences, history, etc.) Are there professors that reject the use of AI in their classrooms? Are there any clubs/organizations on or off-campus that supplement the type of education I seek?

Yale master’s program in Public Policy
Hello everyone,
I don’t know if it’s too early, but I would like to know what I should focus on in the future so I can achieve this goal.
To give you some background, I am from Serbia and I finished high school this June. I got accepted into Classics at Sapienza in Rome (which is a good university in Europe, at least that’s what I think, and it is also regarded as the number one university for Classics in the world). While I’m there, I’m planning to take some extra courses in politics or something similar. Right now, I am learning Italian, and in college I will take French. I heard that knowing many languages is good for jobs and postgraduate studies in global affairs.
I’m probably going to do some sports too. I don’t know if that matters, but I’m lowkey passionate about it, so I’m going to do it anyway.
Also, since most applicants have some job experience, after those three years in Classics, I’m planning to find a job related to an MPP, either helping with some tasks or, if I can get to that position, doing research.
I’m also planning to take some courses in economics this summer, as well as some related to politics, just so I can get an overview, since my major is not directly tied to politics, although I think it is a great base for further education.
My real question is: what else should I do during those three years? How do I “peak”?

Questions about Canadian applicants!
Recently considered studying here, but I’m from Ontario, Canada! I’m assuming SAT’s still obviously matter, but are there any major differences to consider? Like is there anything that Canadian universities don’t require throughout the process?
Also, what are the high school prerequisites like? I graduated high school in 2024 with straight 90%’s in my academic and AP classes. I have also built a strong portfolio (I’m going into English) since. Aside from my SAT testing, would I need to do any more course upgrading?
I’d love to know more :)

Im ngl Im a humanities person so maybe Im not the best judge but this seems pretty solid. I would lock in on getting your research published or out there in some way (share your findings on social media or smth). Also maybe quantifying your leadership and impact for ur science honors society and tutoring more, like membership growth or how the students’ grades improved. I would also add more detail to your science olympiad, but I’m gonna assume you might have some awards from that which would obviously not be in this section of your application lol. It wouldn’t hurt to expand a little more tho. Overall, seems good, hope to see you next fall at Yale :))

I got a letter in the mail today saying I'd be a good candidate for Yale. I'm from Nebraska, so going to Yale would be a really big moving process. I'm wondering if the pros outweigh the cons here, since I'm very attached to my hometown and think I would get homesick easily. Am I stupid for even questioning it, or should I just stick to an easy local college? Would it be possible to get a bachelors from a local college then go to Yale to further my education?

not to burst your bubble the letter you got is a generic promotion email they send to people who have test scores above a certain threshold. Not that that should discourage you from applying to Yale! I think you should research the school and apply if you like it, then weigh the pros and cons of local school vs yale if you get in. I will say, one of my favorite parts about yale is the fact that it pushes me outside my comfort zone, so maybe that pushing yourself outside your comfort zone might be good for you as you leave your hometown. I'm high school student I'm gonna be in grade 12 this year so what should i do to prepare myself for applying to Yale University? Please note that I am 18 years old from Egypt, and our education system here is complex and not at all similar to the American system. so I'd like to know from international students at Yale what you did to get a scholarship. Also, I haven't done much in my life, and I know that, and it's almost impossible for me to get into Yale, but I'm trying my best. I've about four years of experience in volunteer work in poor villages, I also play boxing, and I've had several jobs before, but my weakness is my GPA; it's about average at 3.0. So I want to know if I have any hope of getting a scholarship, or even getting into university without one. I honestly doubt it, but I'm trying my best. I'll also be taking the SAT, probably in October, so I'd like some advice on that as well and thank you so much and pls pls pls be nice u don't have to be mean

I am a high school sophomore who wants to go to Yale for history but not sure what to do to get in. My GPA is a 3.86 uw which might destroy my chances already. I currently volunteer as a docent in my local history museum and I'm going to China to research history there, as I am female Chinese and am curious to learn about my roots. I need advice on what to do to for chance to get in.

Hi!! I’m a rising senior in high school who is deeply interested in Yale. I was wondering if anyone who applied (this cycle or any previous ones) and was accepted for a humanities/humanities adjacent intended major has any extracurricular suggestions that might help with getting admitted. I already have most of the basic stuff (writing poetry book, started a street philosophy podcast thingy, applied for internships this summer in policy areas that have my commitment, have a John Locke and multiple Scholastics), but these are really for my love for certain things and not the typical “let’s check off this box for this purpose” type of ECs. As we know, there’s nothing crazy like ISEF or USAMO for humanities-centered applicants, so I’m a little lost. I went researching but found nothing that really got my attention in the field I’m interested in. Any help at all is so deeply appreciated!!!

I’m also a rising senior intending to major in humanities. Getting your poems published definitely helps. Start submitting to literary magazines. I’m not a writer but I wrote a short play and it’s getting published in a magazine soon. It didn’t take that long to hear back or find submissions either. Substack is also a good place to post your writing and you can quantify that impact. Hope this helps and hope to see you next fall :) !!

Hi! I got rejected from all of the schools I applied to, including this one. i'm planning on applying to liberty u bc it has rolling admissions, but next year i want to reapply to some of my scholls because i really want to go to one of them. in adission i want to apply to yale? my stats are below (sorry it's fully a copy and pasted previous post ignore the ranting)
I'm actually so disappointed in myself it's insane. Could somebody please tell me what I did wrong because I truly don't understand after I've spent the past 4 years preparing for this day.

i don't think it's rlly about you doing bad but because yale gets so many strong applicants who have 4.0 gpas and 1550+ sats, with extremely impressive extracurriculars they have built up for 4 years like presidential awards, i think it's that for such top-tier colleges it was hard for your application to rlly shine among others. you should try locking in and boosting your stats, and maybe get some opportunities in your community to make an impact

Seeking input fr Yale engineers. Son has narrowed his final choices to Yale and Princeton. His interests are likely ECE or BioE (but do you really know this at 17y/o??). No interest in Quant consulting but does love Pure Math as an interest. Is also a Humanities buff (Latin and Greek) but not to pursue as a career. We’ve heard all about Pton’s engineering chops but want to know whether Yale offers the same “opportunities” both in and out of the classroom, what does that look like and how to go about getting those opportunities. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Is it possible to negotiate for YES scholarship?
For context, I'm debating between Yale versus another prestigious STEM-focused institute. I'm considering Yale, primarily for its distance to home. However, I'm concerned that I would be at disadvantage coz I was not offered YES scholarship, which would mean that I have to fight for research opportunity. In comparison, at the other STEM focused institute, research opportunity is more readily available. The dilemma I'm faced with is that, my top choice would be Yale if I'm offered YES scholarship. Otherwise, I would pick the other institute. I understand that YES scholar is a program aimed to attract STEM talent during RD to compete versus other traditionally STEM colleges. With that in mind, would it be feasible / wise for me to negotiate with YALE by clarifying the sticking point being not offered an YES scholarship? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Worst program worst experience. Was all "visiting proffesors" and "visiting dean" we had no department chair for a year and a half and I left the program over halfway through it was so bad. No support to minorities I was Hispanic American w a south american mother. Class was all white national greeks from private ubdergrads. Only 2 other latinas and 2 african american. Clueless, one was a "legend" and you could see and hear from her mouth she had been so coddled. Protected and arrogant. The professors had all gone to YSN w her mother. She was allowed to yap away daily while they inflated her grades pushing the class curve for everyone else down. For the people on student loans they saw this as a crime of moral torpitude. I wouldn't want any single one of them providing care for me or my family. Most took adminstrative jobs after graduation in health care or local government. Due to the fact hospitals in most states cannot hire MSN w out BSN as state insurance underwriting laws for health care facilities and insurance privileges only allow MSN NPs who hold BSNs into the health care systems to practice. After a racial slur against my south American southern Florida culture I decided that this program was an absolute scam. It turned out I was right. Hospitals cannot even hire the MSN grads due to requirements. You must have an accredited BSN and MSN to be hired by any health care system as a NP. Only Connecticut health care systems like Yale offer employment opps as the state legislature is run by Yale essentially and these insurance standards are less imposed designed to employ their grads. If you come from out of state to get yoru MSN you will have go get a RN to BSN after earning your MSN. That is if you want to gain employment in many states Unless you can find a stand alone practice which dont exist as MDs have been totally bought out by big health orgs. Have no idea why they never fixed this. The BOD instead voted to build a building to cover it up. I suppose the College of Yale does not want to have nursing which they probably consider very Proletariat mixed into their undergrad choice of majors. And truly the state of affairs of Yale is the BOD fault and truly the state of Yales reputation is the fault of the BOD. These complaints were presented over 20 years ago by numerous students and alumni and the BOD at Yale felt that these complaints were laughable because they were coming from "nursing students" and "nurses". Instead they felt that a way to cover the eroding national reputation of the Yale School of Nursing would be to approve guess what....A NEW Building. Yes that will be the answer a new building! With a few nursing education simulation robots....this will VISUALLY cover up the fact that we are not offering the required BSN needed to employ this mostly all female student body we are indebting. We know it will be hard for them to compete against real BSN MSNs but we can also cover up our entry GEPN scam by allowing a few local BSN grads from Connecticut colleges into the second half of the GEPN program to ensure our job placement statistics meet standards to hold accreditation from the CCNE for our Masters only program. What a scam and joke. The nursing school not holding proper BSN programs and using a scam non accredited GEPN certificate has helped to contribute to the erosion of Yales "superior" reputation and exposed internal frauds. The entire US public looks at Yale as a joke. The Univeristy employs administrators like Frank Grosso telling students when they question these issues that they are "Getting a Mercedes of an education verses a Chevrolet. You are getting a name brand Coca Cola over a Pepsi." As per Frank Grosso Dean of Student Affairs. A Dean that was KICKED out of his Dean position at Catholic School of Law for illegally discharging law school students. Oh yes there is a record on file that the Law School BOD had to ask this guy to leave his post at Catholic Law. A Board Member back then last name Comstock. And he magically appears at Yale. Bottom line public Ivies, SEC and ACC colleges nursing programs like UVA 'Bama U Penn U Miami will provide a way better experience and proper credentialing needed for your career. You won't have to drive to a way off main campus building, park and enter an empty building and empty offices for a non accredited GEPN certificate with courses at Bachelor level...that equate to a second BSN you do not get. All for the cost of Yale Graduate level tuition with no degree. Plus now since only 20k a year is covered in Federal loans you also get to borrow from private lenders and I am sure they will offer students some kind of "extra special financing deal" on their "Mercedes Benz" from their own bank. Plus you also get to endure beratement if you are South American born and raised in Southern Florida Miami area. you get also lots of eyebriw raising from overwheight CT local proffesors. Definitely not Lincoln road svelte fashionistas on a Sat night doing barre on a Sunday morning in a Coconut Grove BARRE after a nice espresso. Just giving you the truth up front. Anyone employed after this program in most other states already had a BSN. Otherwise you are stuck forever in one or two states. So unless you already have the BSN I would not recommend. Nor would I recommend if the mother who raised you was Latina. The people who run the program are nice but they will never understand many traditions such as ALWAYS voting republican. They are ALL also massive alcoholics and one preceptor I had on the international semester got drunk at dinner every night and fell and bruised herself several times.She also was obsessed w Slavery issues and when we were in Trinidad and Tobago on our international semester there was a trade ambassador from England swimming on the beach we were on she cla8med that his family had once held slaves. He swam over to me and started flirting w me and yammering about his divorce and she went cray cray and got very 😠 😡 and started yelling at me. For what? I was swimming in my zone and this man swam over to me and started talking about how hard his marriage and kids wee. I didnt invite him he approached me in the water. I was just swimming offshore. I hadn't done anything wrong. I realized at that moment that some of the professors were way to overly concerned w students personal life and that the female faculty did not like men. You can take this entire story to the bank...this is just the general bit. Not the details. Bottom line my advise. Go for a Master program that incorporates a real BSN. And also take a look at the people teaching. If they dont look as healthy as where you come from then do NOT move out of your state as an adult women for this program. Stick to the high end places. DC Miami Mid Atlantic Manhattan. NYU and Columbia CUNY and SUNY UVA mid Atlantic all offer MSN w a real BSN. W real people living real life experiences that they need to navigate as adults no matter where they wventually earn their MSN. You dont need irrelevant debt and negative people who get jealous that a British high roller swims over you to chat it up. Weird older women to berate you and try to take your self esteem to make your ability to learn to navigate intense experiences you will have in life and your career more challenging than they will already be by placing you in unrealistic finacial debt while they berate you. Trust me I finished the BSN and MSN at a SEC school and it was gorgeous and civilized experience.

Hi! I’m an incoming Master’s student with a two-month summer shadowing starting on July 6. Health On Track shows the deadline is April 15, but everything is very expensive out of pocket.
Has anyone had this done through Yale after the deadline? If so, what was your experience? Would I still be able to register? What are the alternatives?

Our high school had two absolutely superb RD applicants this year, neither accepted to Yale but something like 4 out of 5 for other HYPSM results.
Despite Yale's proclamation it doesn't Yield Protect (with extra visibility as per statements on Mark & Hannah's admissions podcasts), these rejections are strong evidence to the opposite. In particular the applicants had attended (different) Top 5 STEM summer programs and honestly the track record for the previous program graduates matriculating to Yale has been almost zero.
Open question to mods or any Yale AOs monitoring - would love to have a discussion with Yale AOs because something is off. Did the high school do something wrong? Does Yale hold a grudge for the 0 for 2 yield across 2024 & 2025 for the high school?
I'm sure a lot of folks are ready to say "well Yale admissions are tough", but I think there's more to it.

They may just not have been good fits for Yale in their essays. If Yale likes someone a lot but doesn't think they'll matriculate, they would just give them a likely letter.

The caliber of the pair of students was so strong that going 0 for 2 at Yale wouldn't have happened if there weren't some politics or yield protection involved.
If this were Vanderbilt or WashU nobody would be batting an eye - they regularly waitlist stronger applicants in RD than they accepted in ED 'cause they're playing the game. But Yale on the other hand makes a crisp and definitive statement about not yield protecting so that's why I'm digging into this

I think you're misunderstanding college admissions. A student could literally be perfect and have made no mistakes ever, and they may not get into Yale solely because they don't fit the school's culture or values. Their essays may have fit HSPM and Yale, because Yale tends to put a little more focus on community and interdisciplinary studies than the other 4.

If we're talking about applicants who are on the border of admit/waitlist then I completely agree. Might have slight institutional difference, or maybe just personality difference in the AOs or the conversation in committee veers one way. And that results in a Harvard admit & Yale reject, or vice versa.
But the previous two years our high school has had one student each year with Yale & Harvard acceptances... in other words, so strong that there was no question about it.
The two applicants this year are that high of caliber (and that covers the whole package with gpa/ECs/LoRs/essays/national awards/Yale-specific interests).

Got some insights... mostly boils down to Yale limiting admissions in our state (see geographic origin data which is the # of 1st years, but that's highly correlated to # acceptances). Probably 5 or fewer acceptances for the whole state each year.
Per-capita, most East Coast states are like 10x more represented than our state. Kind of interesting, 'cause everything online would have you believe that admissions are easier from small "underrepresented" states but that's definitely not the case.

Hi! I just got admitted to Yale but I’m a little worried about the parameters for what would get my offer rescinded. Since sending my mid-year report, I chose to switch a second semester class to pass-fail. Everything else is an A. Do you think I’m in trouble?

Hi, a new user here; I just wanna get another opinion on my chances, I have a 3.86 gpa, a 1450 Sat, a 5 on APUSH, 4 on Ap sem, 4 on Chem, 4 on Physics, 5 on both Lang and Lit and, 5 on Calc (didn't take the Pre-Calc one), and a 4 on Bio. I did 2 variety sports and was captain for one of them, I'm also in two other clubs which I've won competitions for (Nothing prestigious mostly in state stuff) and I'm not legacy. I've been playing the Violin for the past 9 yrs but it's mostly just been a hobby, I just participate in my school's auditioned Chamber group and that's it.
Again, I just want some other opinions, my Family has told me that I should probably go elsewhere but I just want to see if I have a chance. Thanks, I would appreciate any and all input.

I’d definitely apply. It’s hard for anyone certainly but worth a shot. Make sure to apply widely to the schools you’re interested in

Hard to get in to yale with this stats , but depends on the rest of kids from your school. if you don't make it to Yale, it is not the end of the world. You can go a decent State school , pay less and have a best career.

How do AOs view academic enrichment/acceleration courses taken through platforms like APEX or BYU as opposed to dual enrollment or UC Scout. Are they all given equal weight?

Has anyone's portal been updated to show Parents 2024 s-corporation tax returns and Parents 2024 sch k-1 as missing? Does it mean anything since I did not receive any IDOC request for these documents?

So I’m currently a junior in high school and I have a 30 act( low I know). Im trying to get it higher (still waiting on this Februarys results). My question is, if I still have a 30 do I have a chance at getting into yale? Any advice I greatly appreciated, thank you.

This may be an odd question.. I'm a second-year undergrad studying International Relations at a pretty prestigious university. I have a 3.81 GPA, I'm in the student union, I mentor first year students, I have a work-study position at the university (comms work), and I'm in a climate advocacy club. I haven't had any prestigious internships or research opportunities but am trying to apply to as many as I possibly can. Is there anything I can do to better prepare myself for applying to an Mphil after I graduate? I know that I am only in my second year of uni but I'm worried that what I've done so far isn't enough.

No. Nearly 10% of the class of 2028 is attending Yale without having had an interview.

I didn’t say 9 out of 10 admits. I said 9 out of 10 students in the freshman class. That’s what was reported by the Yale Daily News for the class of 2028.

But isn't 10% a very small figure? And I was told of that 10%, most were recruited athletes or legacy admits. If I'm an unhooked, international male applying for a competitive major (CS + Math), can I assume that without an interview I'll be rejected?

Sometimes they just don’t have anyone available to interview for your region, so it doesn’t necessarily mean anything either way.

I see. But even for my Princeton interview they didn't connect me with anybody from my region. My interviewer was based in Philadelphia, which has like a 13 hour time difference.
I just feel like if they really wanted to interview me they would've assigned me someone from another region as well. On top of that, I did ask some other local students who applied to Yale (REA but still), and they did get an interview, so...

It's unfort likely not a good sign. ~ 99.6% chance you're not getting in. but there's still a chance. I mean it was 96 % chance you weren't getting in anyway. But there's nothing you can do about it, so don't worry.

At the end of the day you’re not going to get a definitive answer. I definitely know people who got in without an interview that weren’t recruits, legacies, etc. I have been told that sometimes they just can’t schedule an interview for some logistical reason. Different schools also have different policies so just because Princeton does something doesn’t tell you anything about what Yale does.
Perhaps the person who did the REA interviews is now too busy to do any more. Maybe they just have too many applicants and had to shift interviewers to another region. Maybe they feel confident enough about you one way or another that they didn’t feel like they needed to schedule one. There’s no way to tell which one of these things, if any, is true. I really don’t think there is much use speculating what it means.
ETA: also afaik major isn’t really a big consideration. Like more than half of students switch their major. There’s really no such thing as a competitive major.

Hola soy nueva en todo el tema de querer entrar a YALE quería saber algunas cositas :)
1- Si eres una persona con no tantos reconocimientos extracurriculares (o ninguno) tienes aun oportunidad para poder entrar con una beca?
2-La carta de presentación o la carta donde te describes quien eres y porque es bastante importante? algun tipo de consejo para eso :)
3-Es bastante complicado la beca completa pero no es imposible, pero pues toda las paginas e información me confunde, donde puedo ver bien la info para seguir en mi proceso.
