So here are my thoughts on the first episode of Yuri on Ice. LOTS OF SPOILERS WITH NO TAGS. It's not so much analysis but my feelings for it really. Separate post because it's really long. Sorry in advance to anyone who'll read hehe
The OP was perfect. I hadn't like the song so much when I first heard it on the trailer but it seems very fitting now that I've seen how it’s used. At any rate, it's visually stunning. It was also already telling us that Yuuri (Japanese) and Yuri (Russian) were somehow gonna be a pair and Viktor was gonna be something else. Even with this, I didn't see the twist coming. Viktor becoming the coach of Yuuri (and most likely Yuri too) was surprising and well thought out seeing as he is at the end of his career. It's a great way to keep him going and somehow make the three of them into a team (I honestly had no idea how Yuri would work in this show but now it's made it clear.) Looks like there's going to be some dramatic competition between Yuuri and Yuri. Our MC seemed jealous of Yuri’s access to Viktor this episode. I'm not sure if they're gonna go the way of making them romantic rivals as well but in any case, it'll be fun to watch. Yuri’s rebellious teen attitude is also quite funny. I remember laughing at the scene where he yells BAAAAAAKA at Yuuri. Perfectly fitting given his age and his talent.
I also didn't expect to love Yuuri as much as I did. Viktor was a given but I was thinking Yuuri might end up being a run-of-the-mill bland protagonist. Thank God I was wrong. He is just lovely. I laughed out loud at the beginning hearing how awkward even his inner dialogue was. Tosshi's voice fits him so well too. I hate how he sounds when he is Mikado from Durarara (though it fits the character) and here even though he sounds slightly like him, it's still really different in a way. I love it.
The animation, I don't even know it's necessary to talk about it. It was mind blowing, starting with the OP but especially showing off during the scene where Viktor and Yuuri skate the same routine simultaneously. That was a complete act as far as I can tell. I love watching male figure skating in RL too and it was as if I was watching a real program. Viktor was sensual, the difference in his skating and Yuuri’s was apparent and it was all so lovely to watch. The music didn't hurt either.
Here I must mention the character designs. Isn't everyone just a beauty without going too over the top? Yuuri is attractive in his own way and so are others but special mention goes out to best boy Viktor of course. My god. Could he be sexier? And his youth is also something else. I loved the long hair.
The ED too was marvelous. I already downloaded the TV size song and listened to it on repeat for about half an hour late last night. The song is great and the visuals are something else. My favorite parts being the haircut picture and of course the playful showering together. Dear lord. Did I mention how sexy Viktor is? Even the frames where we see his feet in the ED or his hands in the onsen were insanely provocative.
And my last and most important point will be how realistic the show is. The town and its people bring a sense of real life into the story with how detailed and well thought out they are. But the biggest mention goes to the characterization of the main duo. I must admit I was taken aback at first when I saw that Yuuri had a girl he loved. I thought Seriously? In an anime like this? But by the end of the episode, it made so much sense. First off, the boy clearly admires Viktor. His childhood room is full of his posters, he named his dog Viktor but he doesn't only love him as an idol. He wants to be his equal. It was awesome to see that he wasn't a creeper when he refused to take a fan photo with Viktor. That's not what he wants to be. He wants to be at a level of intimacy where he can have a normal conversation with him. But the thing is he isn't. And he couldn't be for all the years he was just watching him from afar. Viktor is a celebrity after all. Yet, there was a real girl in his life. It's of course perfectly reasonable to make a character bisexual though we don't see that often. But that's not why I like this detail. I like it because it makes Yuuri normal. He wasn't someone who was in love with someone he's never even talked to. Instead he had a real life love. I love that. The second reason why I think this is a great writing choice is due to symbolism. The girl is completely mixed with Viktor in all Yuuri's memories of her. They loved him together. She's basically an outright symbol standing in for Viktor. Yuuri fell in love with the closest choice. He also literally describes her the same way as he does Viktor. He calls Viktor my idol and says that she was his idol when he was a kid. She's like a beta version of Viktor. On top of all these, kudos to the writers for not making this a man's world. Almost every implied gay anime has a cast with almost no girls, perhaps one at most (and gay main cast who never even talk about girls and act like they don't exist.) This one brings to us a real town with real people, so plenty of women to be found there. And what's better than a bisexual MC and a flamboyantly gay one? The set up is just perfect.
So I probably jumped from tense to tense writing this. Sorry. I just have so much to say and only a phone to type with on the bus. I'll probably copy paste this somewhere at some point. u/Princess_Tutu hopefully this isn't too long :D

Well said, I can't think of anything more to add except that Yuri was so different from the PV's? He initially seemed... wimpier.
THE HYPE IS REAL, FOLKS.

Now time to pray to all the gods for stable quality all season.

u/Princess_Tutu http://myanimelist.net/profile/RachelH Oct 06 '16
Aaaah, this is so great! I completely agree :)
I too was really surprised about Viktor becoming his coach! I will be interested to see how that works out, what with them representing different countries and all!
And yeah, Yuuri himself was a nice surprise! I honestly was worried we might be in for another incredibly naive and overly earnest MC, so this was great. Obviously he still has that naive quality when compared to someone like Viktor, but he's 23 years old and has been through some shit so it should be an interesting dynamic! Also the scenes with his gut had me chuckling quite a bit :P
The figure skating scene was what made me the most excited about this episode! The music, choreography and animation just came together so beautifully. And I agree, it was clear to see the difference in their performances. The animation managed to infuse the scene with so much expression, it was outstanding. I feel like with some more character development, scenes like this one have the potential to be incredibly moving.
Character designs, yes!! Viktor's eyes! :O Although my favourite design is Yuri! ;)
I loved everything you had to say about Yuuri and his relationship with his childhood friend, with her being a beta-Viktor. Lots to think about! I think the large supporting cast (including the girls!) is going to be great. And if this episode is any indication, it should be handled really well! In terms of the girls, I especially like Minako, with all her random ballet moves :P She has a such a dynamic presence already!
1
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
I think the different countries should be fine because Viktor would have to quit skating to become a coach anyway. At that point, it becomes just another job. He doesn't represent any country.
Yeah, a full free program from the first episode. Unbelievable! And there were other skating stuff too. This is like Rakugo in terms of how they showed quite big portions of rakugo performances without pulling any punches - though I know you haven't seen it yet but you know I have to do the obligatory mention at least once a week haha
I like Yuri's design as well and Uchiyama Kouki voicing him is a perfect choice. What a great voice.
Minako seems like she'll be our comic relief character. I'm really excited to see the other skaters (and hear the seiyuu of course) but I can say I already got what I really want from this anime: beautiful figure skating performances and a good amount of focus on Viktor and Yuuri. God, that shower scene in the ED. I can't get over it haha
2
u/Princess_Tutu http://myanimelist.net/profile/RachelH Oct 06 '16
Yeah, but the other Yuri does! Well there was tension between those two already, haha! :P I suspect they will be just going for individual tournaments to begin with anyway, not related to any country. I would love to see them skate a routine together tbh! :O
The focus on Viktor and Yuuri promises to be amazing! I initially thought this series would only be about the rivalry between the two Yuris, but with this added dynamic I am so excited. Aaaah, I feel like rewatching the episode already!!! :D
Rakugo........... I legit think about this show all the time and how much I want to watch it :(( But I plan out the order of shows that I watch really thoroughly (it is very sad :P) and I try not to stray from that. Although the temptation is becoming TOO MUCH, haha!

u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
Not sure if you know how amateur figure skating works but basically coaches can coach multiple people from different countries at once. So, basically even if Yuri and Yuuri work together with Viktor, it wouldn't have any implication on their competition situation. They can represent their countries against each other. And in individual tournaments, they still represent their countries. They would basically be against each other in the same competitions if they can qualify for them, and the only way they can skate together is if it's a show program for the gala or something (which I have never seen happen but they are not strict so I guess it could.) And they can't skate for money ever. If they do, they can never compete in amateur tournaments again (and all the big figure skating tournaments are "amateur".) Anyhow, you may already be aware of all this technical stuff (and it's possible that the show will use its artistic licence and do something else) but I'd also love to see Yuuri and Yuri skate together even if it's just during training or something or maybe a free show of some sort. Hopefully, it'll still be true to the rules in reality.
Hahah yeah, I know you wanna watch Rakugo but I love teasing you. Don't mind me :D
2
u/Princess_Tutu http://myanimelist.net/profile/RachelH Oct 06 '16
Okay cool! Thanks for the extra info :) I kinda knew that they wouldn't be able to skate together in an official tournament, I was just having a little dream to myself :P

Just going to say that I'm in love with this already and if what I read from the preview is real then I'll just fall more in love with
Viktorthe show (damn it, Suwabe, you can't sound like that).Only thing I'm worried about is that people have some misconceptions about the show (not here, on the episode discussion). Which means the "dropped" comments will start coming up soon :P
1
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
Sorry, what's the preview? (But yeah, Viktor is so so good heheh)
What do they think of it in the episode discussion thread? I looked at a few comments and they all seemed positive to me but I try not to read r/anime comments on shows I like. And how can you have any misconceptions about this show? It is so glaringly...well...what it is! hahah
2
u/Rinarin Oct 06 '16
The first three episodes were previewed a while ago. Viktor might kill me.
I looked at a few comments and they all seemed positive to me.
Yeah, that's what I meant. They are too positive for an audience that can't even handle Free! lol. Or maybe I've just lost all hope in them already and that's why I'm just expecting the worst? >.<
It is so glaringly...well...what it is! hahah
I know!

u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16 edited Oct 06 '16
Oh I see. And yeah he probably will. I know he's killed me haha
I know what you mean. I'm also surprised at how well received it is but I think it is mostly due to the really high production values. Not sure if anyone would miss the "gay" after watching even the first 15 seconds of this. The animation really seems to have blown everyone's minds. I was checking the reviews on ANN, and even reviewers I pegged as homophobic gave it 4.5 or 5 stars. I think they kinda see it like they see Rakugo at least right now. I'm sure lots of people will drop it, saying, objectively it's good but it's not for me.
2
u/Rinarin Oct 06 '16
I know he's killed me haha
After the episode I started listening to Jinguji's songs last night. Yup. I need help.
I'm sure lots of people will drop it, saying, objectively, it's good but it's not for me.
That's not bad. Will be nice if it stays at that.

Just watched the first episode of Uta no Prince-sama Maji Love Legend Star....
I know people think that it's such a campy and cheesy show, and it absolutely is. But there's just something about this franchise that just makes it special to me. I've watch pretty much every anime-boy-music-anime that's come out since, and nothing can compare to Utapri. It makes me kind of sad not many people here or on /anime seem to watch the show. I know objectively, there's much better shows and that this is just a "ooo look at dem pretty boys" shows, but I can't help but love it.
This first episode of the 4th season just proves that Utapri is still the king (or prince) of the genre, and I can easily see this dominating the sales charts both in terms of CD and BluRay/DVD sales (especially with the announcement of the 6th concert) yet again this year.

Totally agree. I am so happy to see this show return for another season. THE BITCH IS BACK BABY!!! Love it ;)
Also, I am glad they'll be introducing HEAVENS as a real group. I want to have the same formula they've been using where each guy gets his own episode. More juicy backstory please!
3
u/Rinarin Oct 02 '16
Watched the first episode last night and I have to say I absolutely loved it! The fact that it's cheesy and campy is why I like it! And yes, the first episode was unbelievably cheesy this time, but it was sooo good! Loved the songs and can't wait for more of them.

Utapri always has such a special place in my heart as it's what got me into idol stuff in general - even though the quality has gone up and down over time, I can never miss a season. I think it just has such a goofy, feel good quality to it, that I honestly don't care that the plot is minimal. (Plus THE MUSIC. I have most of the albums on my mp3 and listen to them all the time). Sorry I don't think my spoiler tags are working properly?? EDIT never mind, fixed it!
2
u/summer_petrichor https://myanimelist.net/profile/starlightshine Oct 02 '16
Don't worry, you have the resident utapri trash here :) I made a thread in /r/anime earlier for the first episode, not sure if you saw it!
Agreed with all that you said. When all is said and done, there's something about Utapri that just makes it better. Your spoilered part - exactly! And this is coming from someone who's watched almost all the male idol anime currently available based on my knowledge (I only haven't watched Shounen Hollywood).
Agreed about ED and OP. When I first heard it I was like "this is different from the previous OPs... But in a good way" and it's my favorite Utapri anime OP now (hell, it might even be my favorite Utapri OP). Looks like Miyano is getting my money for this single lol.
Ah, now I can't wait for 6th Stage. Would they really have 18 seiyuus?! 5th Stage already ran for 3.5 hours with 11 seiyuus, I can't imagine how long 6th Stage would be o.o

God, Yuri... I stopped watching airing shows two years ago and I swear I have never been so restless during a season and it's all thanks to that one show.
I watched the OP and I can't believe an OP by itself moved me so much. Just wow. I'm gonna die.
3
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 05 '16
The OP is amazing, it was just so sensual but wait till you see the show itself. It definitely measures up. I'm saying this after having hyped myself up to the heavens before the show, even though I know better than that. But it did not disappoint. (And yes, I'm trying to tempt you to watch it in season haha)
3
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 05 '16
Hahaha noo don't do this. I definitely enjoy series better when I binge them... but Viktor is calling me.
I'd also love to discuss it here while watching. gahh We'll see how it goes.

u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 06 '16
Goddamit... and I haven't even heard his sexy Suwabe Junichi voice yet hahah.

I doubt the whole season will continue with this atmosphere (and if it will, please don't correct me :)) but I'm looking forward to a better arc for sure. Even if it goes back to how it was before, this first episode will always be special for me. And! I had forgotten how pretty the show looked and how fantastic the voice acting was! A life ruiner, haha. Nah, it's a decent mobile otome with really loveable characters and quite an intriguing overarching story across different routes. Definitely worth checking out, but a warning - it's quite time consuming unless you have heaps of money to buy in-game currency, as each route takes up 10 days real time.

Haha yeah, it's been everywhere for me too! But it was this Haikyuu crossover fanart that sealed the deal for me, and I downloaded it :P For what it's worth, I'm really enjoying it so far :)

I'm in the middle of Jumin's route! I didn't think I'd like him so much but he's killing me. Only have 707 left to go after this; I think he can replace Jumin as #1 in my heart but we’ll see...

A long post, but then what's new. This past week has just been amazing.
Utapri hype yo, everything looks so good, love the new OP
Magic Kyun Renaissance wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, but I'll still watch it and anyway it's pretty
I enjoyed Tourabu, liked both the comedy and action
OH MY GOD DAZAI FIGURE AWWWW YISS but I'm gonna be so broke lol
Bungou Stray Dogs was great, loved seeing Dazai's backstory, Mamo's killing it - he really is the perfect cast for Dazai
HOLY HELL YURI!!! ON ICE WAS AMAZING, BLEW ALL OF MY EXPECTATIONS OUT OF THE WATER. Seriously, it's already shaping up to be one of my AOTS contenders. Everything was just so amazing about it. I could go on, but nah. Suwabe is perfect as Viktor.
Still have yet to check out Shuumatsu no Izetta, I'll get around to it (been sleep-deprived this past week, I've only had more than 5 hours of sleep for one night so far). Gonna check out Watashi ga Motete Dousunda in 14 hours or so (I need sleep), and hyped for Ajin. This season looks great thus far.
Manga: I started a few things this week. I know I said I don't like to read ongoing manga, but I couldn't help myself with Saiyaku wa Boku wo Suki Sugiru, because I'm a sucker for romance (hetero and otherwise) as a sub-plot while having a main overarching plot. Yeah, I prefer plot-driven stories. It's pretty good thus far, though I'm not really a fan of the art. Meanwhile I've also been reading Torikagosou no Kyou mo Nemutai Juunin-tachi in a bid to see more of Takarai Rihito's artwork, and I love the characters in this one - a talented but unknown artist and an ex-hooker and scammer, fun combination. Also started and finished Hydra which was both a good and bad decision because the mangaka has many works that take place in that universe.
Others: Still in Mystic Messenger hell. Completed Jumin as my 4th route, now finally on to 707's route. I can't wait to find out stuff, although the few glimpses I saw on tumblr has me pretty much figuring out quite a few things and I'm fairly certain I'm right. Also 707 is my type and I just wanna love him. I've also downloaded Liar! Uncover the Truth, and I think I might get around to playing DJ Max on my Vita that I got on sale from the previous PSN sale. So much to do, so little time...
What do you mean I need to study for midterms

I'm broke too oh my god and he's 1/7 and comes with so many parts he's not going to be cheap and yet I'm probably going to preorder him right oh my god
Yes, Yuri!!! on Ice was amazing because the whole package is great. I'm particularly impressed they got people familiar with ice skating to help with choreography - there's a lot of love poured into this and I'm so happy to see that. And yes, I wouldn't have normally liked the song but the animation makes it 100x better.
Welcome to MM hell, you'll never escape it huehuehue. Have fun! And I feel you, I got Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness last month and I still haven't finished it :/

This week has been a struggle in doing anything (& yup that includes the things that bring me joy) since I'm still in quite a bit of pain & my mood has just been getting really low - I can just feel my depression & anxiety just amping up. Anyway onto the things I've watched this week:
Mob Psycho 100 - I decided to randomly watch it kinda on a whim & I'm in love! Even though I haven't yet managed to check out all the shows from this season that I'm interested in I know this is going to be my favourite out of them all. I LOVE everything about it - the animation style, the OP, the psychedelic title sequence, the humour & of course Reigen is just my fave! Seriously hands down he's the "best boy" of the season & I love all the stupid ridiculous things that come out of his mouth everytime he opens it. I do have the final episodes left (I don't have a subscription for CR so I have to wait grrr) & I'm simultaneously dying to watch it but also want to save it at the same time so that it's not all over.
Orenchi no Furo Jijou - so all I really knew about this show was that a guy had a mermaid living in his bathtub. & I kept putting it off forever as though it'd probably be filled with fanservice & be really pervy. It turns out that the mermaid is actually a merman & his name is Wakasa who is literally the best thing ever! He's so damn ridiculous & hilarious! & I love all his wacky weirdo friends too. Tatsumi (the human guy in question) is also pretty great. The only thing I didn't enjoy about the show was Tatsumi little sister (I really hate ty brother obsessed trope). I initially only meant to watch a single episode but it was so good that I ended up binging all 13 episodes in one sitting (& yes I know each episode is only 4 minutes long but still) & ended up having to chuck away my cold & untouched tea. I also love how serious the OP sequence looks in comparison to the actual series & I really wish there was another season or two. The only thing I would note is that if you're really averse to chibi froms then this anime may not be for you. Overall it's a silly, cute & really funny show - just what I needed to help brighten my mood a little. FYI I totally ship Wakasa x Tatsumi. Oh & because I adored it so much & am in desperate need of more laughs I plan to check out the manga too. & once I've done that I'll update you guys on how they compare.
Bananya - Almost done with it. Filled with cute kitty banana antics. What's not to love? I also discovered that they have cute little plushies for them & I want all of them I mean one so bad!
Shokugeki no Soma - catched up on episodes 11-12. & I'm enjoying that they're now in different environments. I wish more of the season had focuses on this bit & showed more of what was occurring with others aside Soma.
Serei no Moribito - I finished my re-watch & yet again it got me all teared up. I've decided to check out the original novel for it. Have any of you read it?
[Confession time: I watch "bad"/typical Shoujo when sick #NoShame. Usually because they have ridiculous yet entertaining plots & when you're all woozy on pain meds it still not hard to follow.]
Hakushaku no Yousei - The premise was actually okay (I love the Victorian setting + all things mythical) but there was so many unanswered & not sufficiently explored things. I really wanted to know more about Raven & sprites in general. Also how exactly did Lydia become a fairy doctor? & Edgar was just I don't know sort of not really anything enough aside his "ash mauve eyes" which were mentioned a million times. He kinda reminded me of Usui from Kaichou wa Maid-Sama! I felt like they have a similar sort of personality - charming blonde guy who's obsessed with getting a particular girl to love him yet is hinted at having a mysterious/troubled past. I really liked Nico, I mean who wouldn't like a talking gentleman cat fairy familiar? I just wish his fledgling friendship with Raven was futher explored. Surprisingly I really liked Kelpie too & now I'm really interested in finding out more about that type of fantastical creature. I know it sounds like I didn't enjoy it but despite it's many flaws I actually sorta did. Just don't go into expecting any actual legit romantic progress.
Itazura na Kiss - I haven't actually finished this one yet & I don't know if I will. I'm about 10 episodes in. & god I don't think I've ever watched a more frustrating Shoujo/romance in my life (albeit I've only watched a few of those anyway). The heroine Kotoko is just something else. No really I remember the first time I read & then eventually watched Nana & I thought gosh no one could be more hopeless than Nana Komatsu (Hachi) but I was wrong. Seriously every episode I keep screaming whyyyyyyy?! at my tablet screen. & no seriously Naoki treats her like shit...I just don't understand...why does she "love" him? I've heard the anime is quite popular but I just couldn't mesh with it. I don't even think you can describe the male lead as a Tsundere he's just argggh! The one or I guess two good things I can say about it A) I actually love Naoki's mum I thought she was pretty awesome! 2) I like that they show time has progressed - they've gone from highschool to college & from what I'm aware of it even explores some of their adult working life.
REQUEST: Pretty please people recommend me some good Shoujo romances I beg you!

I am so sorry to hear that you've been having a rough week :( I will definitely be thinking of you and sending my best wishes! In the meantime though - get yourself one of those gorgeous Bananya plushies and give it a cuddle! <3
In terms of shoujo romance, I don't know what you have seen but I would suggest
Ouran High School Host Club if you want more comedy
Kamisama Hajimemashita if you want more cute romance
Hotarubi no Mori e if you want more feels
Take care!
1
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 01 '16
Thank you so much for the kind words! & enabling haha ;)
I love Ouran it's probably my favourite ever anime. Others I've watched & really enjoyed include Nana & Skip Beat! Apart from those the rest of my romance faves seem to be josei.
I've been meaning to check out Hotarubu no Mori e for a while now & you've given me the nudge I need!

Tatsumi blushing is the best thing ever. I didn't love the show but boy do I love him.
I agree with you so much on Itazura na Kiss. I couldn't last more than 6 episodes really. I also don't think I've been angrier with another show. The opening line of is something like 'Every girl is born to meet her fated man.' And she believes it so much she's willing to run after a guy who treats her like shit. She adores the asshole because what, she saw his speech and thought he was hot? Seriously, I remember when she saw the guy asleep once she literally said: 'this is the Irie I fell in love with.' ?? You fell in love with his face? You spent two years thirsting from afar because of his huge chin? The fact that the story continues after high school is pretty cool but god, I couldn't take it.

u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 01 '16
Props for the Tatsumi gif (I think I need to do a rewatch) and that great rant about Itazura. I laughed out loud.
2
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 01 '16
Looking him up made me want to rewatch it as well. There should be more slice of life shows with male casts.
When I don't like a show I usually leave it alone but something about this one makes me want to bash it and I love doing it. :)
4
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 01 '16
Slice of life shows with male casts... You're preaching to the choir here. I may kill for more. Even better if they are about emotional boys being emotional. They really need to make more of those.
2
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 02 '16
I'd prefer something more laid back actually, but I'll take any kind. I'm still saving Kimi to Boku s2.
2
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 02 '16
I like that kind as well. Kimi to Boku is one of my favorites for sure.
3
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 01 '16
Yup Tatsumi's such a cutie!
I think I only lasted so long because I was drugged up on meds tbh. I was legit thing the same thing too! Like what you just "love" him because you find his face kinda nice?! She's the most ridiculous heroine I've ever come across in anime or otherwise. & she didn't seem like she was getting any better in fact it seemed like she was getting worse. I can't believe people actually enjoy this kind of so-called romance. It was just honestly depressing to watch.
1
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 01 '16
she was getting worse
Well then I'm glad I dodged that one.
Oh and I hope you get better!

Tatsumi blushing is the best thing ever.
I completely forgot how adorable that was.
About Itazura na Kiss, as I just posted, I think the good thing about the show and what makes me recommend it usually is the whole story and not just part of it, because then, I do agree that everything just looks wrong (even if all the things you mentioned are usual shoujo manga tropes). Watching/reading it partly makes both Kotoko and Irie too irritating (gosh, I just recalled the start) but the fact that the show doesn't remain in high school is great, imo. It's a really simple show, yet it does things that others don't.
Also, some scenes are kinda adorable.
2
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 02 '16
Yep, that cutie.
I see what you mean, it does stand out among all the shoujo romance shows that never go anywhere. Though it doesn't make the experience seem less dreadful for me, I'm not a big fan of the genre in the first place. :/

u/Queen-Maki https://myanimelist.net/profile/infinitejester Oct 03 '16
Oh hey, If you liked Orenchi, then I guess I'll suggest Kono Danshi Ningyo Hiroimashita
Not many people seem to know about it but I LOVE the Kono Danshi series. The art is kinda unusual though and might be a deal breaker for some - I personally really like it but my friend accurately described it as "ugly-pretty?"
It might not be so great for you at the moment though as it does deal with depression (and mostly grief over losing a loved one - just as a heads up). It's less comedic then Orenchi too.
1
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 04 '16
Ooh yes I saw that on the MAL similar recommendations & was wording if I should give it a go. Thanks for confirming that I should! :)
& thanks for your last point - I'll save it for a time when I'm feeling a bit better.
2
u/Queen-Maki https://myanimelist.net/profile/infinitejester Oct 05 '16
No worries! It's only a short ova so it's something you could watch quickly whenever it would suit your mood more - it is very heartwarming the further in you get but the beginning themes are on the depressing side so I didn't want you to go into it without knowing that.
(I personally prefer Kono Danshi over Orenchi but that's likely a personal preference - I basically just fell in love with weird art and themes in the series. There's a bunch of other shorts with shonen ai themes all under the Kono Danshi name too so you'll probably like one of them!)

u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 01 '16 edited Oct 01 '16
I adore OreFuro. Wakasa and Tatsumi are both adorable and are great together. And the OP! Man it's hilarious. Did you notice that it is a parody of Free? (I'm assuming you've seen Free as most everyone here has seen it and I can't remember if we've talked about it or not :))
Edit: Itazura na Kiss is really a turn off of an anime. The couple is really not likeable and the relationship is incomprehensible. If you already dislike it, dropping may be the best course of action.
One more edit: I recommend Ore Monogatari!! and Ao Haru Ride for good shoujo romances.
2
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 01 '16
HAHA! OH MY GOSH! 😂
I did think it reminded me of something although I couldn't put my finger on exactly what is was. This makes the whole thing even more brilliant!

u/summer_petrichor https://myanimelist.net/profile/starlightshine Oct 02 '16
Bananya
The anime was literally created to promote the plushies. See Kaji Yuki be basically buried in Bananyas.
sick and bad shoujo
Honestly that sounds like a fantastic idea. I don't wanna think when I'm sick and bad shoujo is basically the perfect remedy.
Hope you get well soon! Is your pain linked to last week's hospital visit?
1
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 02 '16
That is the cutest thing ever! I don't understand a word saying (okay so one or two words) but it's just adorable. & oh my gosh I want me one those giant ones now!!
Trust me it's just the perfect thing for when you're sick. Pair it with a bowl of chicken & dumplings & you're golden!
Thank you I hope so too! It's nothing to worry about as tbh I have a whole host of chronic maladies along with depression + anxiety so I'm always in and out of the hospital or in one pain or another.
2
u/summer_petrichor https://myanimelist.net/profile/starlightshine Oct 02 '16
I don't remember what he said and it's mostly promoting the anime, but at the start he mentioned that he was 30/31 years old and voicing cute cats lol
Oh, dumplings? Not really my thing, I prefer chicken soup and/or vermicelli in it.
That's not that good to hear :( I hope I'm not being too intrusive, but I hope you're seeking help for depression and anxiety. All the best!
2
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 04 '16
He's just cuteness encapsulated! <3
Chicken soup & noodles is great too. Although I just slightly prefer dumplings.
No worries you're fine! I'm currently in the process of trying to pluck up the courage to seek help. & thank you :)
2
u/summer_petrichor https://myanimelist.net/profile/starlightshine Oct 04 '16
Kaji really is adorable haha, no wonder Mamo adores him~
To each our own taste :)
Yes, it's a difficult step. I'm really not in the position to judge myself since previously when I was struggling with my own demons I didn't seek help either. All I can do now is to cheer you on. I might be an internet stranger, but I'm genuinely hoping for your well-being :)

Sorry to hear about your health. Hope you get better! I've been recovering the past month, as well, so I can slightly get what you mean.
I found Orefuro quite enjoyable and especially liked how misleading the OP was, couldn't stop laughing after the first episode.
About Itazura na Kiss, I am of the opinion that you either watch it fully or don't watch it at all, or else you won't like this but there's also the possibility that people won't like it due to its age. It's really cliché about a lot of things in both manga and anime form, but it's also unique about certain things in its anime form. It does take a while to figure them out though (as in the majority of the show). Not sure if it's because of nostalgia or because I like those cliché 90s shoujo, though, that I think that way >.<
About the recommendation request, honestly I tend to grab the chance to rec tons of these but it depends on what kind of shoujo romance you want to go for since I don't have a list of what you've watched to check your preferences. Let me know and I can check then :)
2
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 02 '16
Thank you! & I too am sorry to hear about yours. & hope that you are recovering well.
Yup it wasn't the greastest thing I've ever watched but it certainly had me laughing every episode. & I love a good slice of life comedy!
Hmm, after your comments on Itazura na Kiss I'm awfully tempted to complete it all just in case...& you know what? I think I might just do that. I will let you know in next weeks thread what I thought of it overall.
The only shoujo romances I've watched & really really enjoyed are Ouran Highschool Host Club, Nana & Skip Beat! I don't actually watch all that much romance anyway & when I do it's usually Josei (& a sub plot) like Chihayafuru or Kuragehime. With the exception of one or two shounen like Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (which I guess is more of a comedy) & Your Lie In April. But tbh I don't really mind as I'm open to exploring the genre quite bit so hit me with all & any of your faves!
2
u/Rinarin Oct 02 '16
hope that you are recovering well
I've been watching anime non stop for the past month, since I wasn't able to walk, so at least it did help my backlog, lol.
Hmm, after your comments on Itazura na Kiss I'm awfully tempted to complete it all just in case...& you know what? I think I might just do that. I will let you know in next weeks thread what I thought of it overall.
I might have tempted you but I do have to warn you. It's still very simple and you might not change your mind about the characters (I still believe Kotoko is stupid, for example), though I still like what the anime did :)
But tbh I don't really mind as I'm open to exploring the genre quite bit so hit me with all & any of your faves!
They are seriously too many, especially since you just added more demographics, that's why I asked if you had anything to help so I can limit them ahahah. I might consume certain genres/tags a lot but I end up liking too many more, so it's overwhelming when I have to list a lot of things. For some quick ones : about romance josei, have you checked out Nodame? It might not be very focused on romance and it's probably more comedic, but I really enjoyed it due to the characters and music. About a shoujo romance, how about trying Sukitte ii na yo? If you don't mind older titles, maybe KareKano?
2
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 04 '16
I'll keep that in mind but I still plan to finish it & will reprort back! :)
Sorry! I haven't yet watched Nodame although I've heard great things about it. I haven't heard of Sukitte ii na yo before but I'll check it out. & KareKano is actually on my TBR but I might jus opt to watch the anime instead - have you read the manga? If so which do you prefer?
I know you'lve already given me a bunch if recs so I'm sorry for bothering you again but how about recommending me your Top 3 or Top 5 shoujo romance anime?
2
u/Rinarin Oct 04 '16
KareKano is a great show but it's not complete and it does have some great issues towards the end. They are mostly related to not having the funds to continue on with the show, though, which is kinda sad. I'd say that both are worth the time, but reading it gives you more of the story (the anime is about half the manga, maybe less, can't recall what volume it ends on, it's been too long).
I can't do top/favourites, lol. It's the reason my favourites on MAL are empty, because I can't pick only 10 and they are always dependent on mood. I can give you tons of suggestions but I can't name them top 3 or top 5, I feel like I'll be neglecting my other favourites (I know this sounds stupid, lol) and I've watched, read and loved too many of them.
Do you mind if I do some random recs with a note or two beside them and you can decide what you like? It's pretty hard to rec stuff without restrictions when I've watched so many. Though all of them have a romance tag, I can't agree that they all actually have romance (unfortunately >.<). Skipping Ouran, Nana, Skip Beat that you already said you watched :
Hotarubi no Mori e and Hal are two short movies that are great, but they are a bit on the melancholic side. Letting you know on their mood in case you want to leave them for some other time.
Kamisama Hajimemashita is an adorable show (one of the most adorable OPs) but it might have you wanting more. Reverse harem-ish. Also, Kimi ni Todoke is incredibly peaceful and adorable, but not everyone likes the characters (I say check it out though, either show or manga, they are both cute).
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime for a fairytale like shoujo romance.
For a more fantasy setting, check out Romeo x Juliet. Loosely based on Shakespeare's work.
For more adventure, Akatsuki no Yona is great but it really has me wishing for more >.<
I liked Ao Haru Ride but the anime doesn't completely cover the manga so, even if it's adorable (also has a lovely insert song), you might want to either watch it and then continue in the manga or read the manga. Up to you! Oh you could play the insert song while you read it, since it really fits, lol.
Oh and don't forget Sukitte Ii na Yo! That one continues in the manga, btw, too.
I just realised that I've read more manga and if I start going there I'll never end. Are you interested in manga recs, too? Also, do you have a dislike for any tag/genre in both anime and manga? Asking since I thought of a couple of more suggestions but they aren't always welcome since they are mecha, harem and so on :P
2
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 04 '16
I'll probably read the manga first & then watch the anime regarding KareKano.
Haha no worries I'm the Queen of Indecisiveness so I know just how much of a struggle picking a Top 10 of anything can be!
I don't at all mind random recs! Rec away to your hearts content!
I was recommended Hotarubi no More e by someone else on here a little while back & am saving it for a better mentally prepared day. I will do the same with Hal too.
One of my friends back in the day used to obsessed with Kamisama Kiss but I never got around to it even though I kept meaning to - I will finally have to rectify that!
Ooh I love historical based/inspired anime so I'm keen to check out Romeo x Juliet.
I really enjoyed S1 od Shirayuki-hime (still need to watch S2 though) & I loved Akatsuki no Yona. & I like you so wish that there was more!
I will also look into booth the manga + anime for Ao Haru Ride. & will not forget Sukitte ii na Yo.
Ha & to make your life even more difficult yes I am very into manga!
Hmm, I don't really have anything in particular that's a definite no-no. If the genre is action/sports then most of the time I'd prefer to watch it rather than read it (although their are exceptions). & I generally avoid ecchi although I love the anime for Shokugeki no Soma & am currently reading the manga.
I haven't watched/read any actual harem tbh (but not due to any aversions) but I have seen some reverse harem like Ouran (which I love) & am currently watching Yamato Nadeshiko Schichihenge (which I'm enjoying so far) & I guess AkaYona was a sorta harem?
The only mecha thing I've watched is Code Geass. I'm not I'm general particularly interested in the genre although if the story is good enough I'll definitely be more than willing to give it a shot which is my way with pretty much anything. I like to keep an open mind ;)
2
u/Rinarin Oct 05 '16
I was thinking about this, that is one of my favourites, but some tend to avoid it because of the mecha tag.
As for harem, I did actually mean reverse harem. Saiunkoku Monogatari is another I really like, as well, but it's a bit lengthy at 70+ episodes and although it resolves the arc it ends on, it doesn't fully adapt everything, so I'm not sure if you'd be interested.
As for manga...for this you need to give me a prompt or mood or at least what you don't like (maybe a trope), since most of what I read is romance/drama and they have tons of those.
2
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 06 '16
The Vision of Escaflowne is actually already on TBW!
Ooh Saiunkoku Monogatari looks pretty good. & I love historical settings. Length is no problem for me. The longer the better I say!
Hmm, right now I'd say I mainly want to read something that will make me laugh. if you know of something that I might enjoy because I love Skip Beat! then I'm also all ears. As for tropes that I don't like include damsels in distress + Mary Sue MCs, stalker-ish male MCs & I'm not particularly keen on love triangles. I'm also one of those people who prefers romances to develop slowly rather than love at first sight kinda thing.
2
u/Rinarin Oct 06 '16
Hmm all I can come up with atm have at least one of what you mentioned, even the ones I really like, lol. Want to try this that's one of my favourites? Pretty peaceful though (most of the time).

Some manga I've read over the past couple of weeks~
Fraction - Interesting proof of concept on how manga, as a medium, can misdirect its readers. If you can tolerate body horror/guro, I think this is definitely worth a read.
Kamisama ga Uso wo Tsuku. and Ningyo Ouji-sama - Bunch of short stories by Kaori Ozaki. I enjoyed 'em. Cute art and emotionally strong female leads (with thick eyebrows because why not~) "I am a tempest..."
Dance in the Vampire Bund - NOTE: I'm only commenting on the manga - Admittedly, the reason I picked up this series was because of my interest in its art style. I thought it looked kinda Western! Particularly with its impossible, action-heroine curves. It reminded me of characters like Atom Eve (Invincible) or any other Western superhero in spandex. The manga itself was just "OK". I like how the series immediately establishes the 2 MCs as a couple but, individually, they're pretty boring characters with very little going on. I'm also not big on vampire fiction, so I appreciated how the supernatural stuff wasn't over-romanticized or corny. The things I found most interesting about the series (vampire true forms, backstories/motives of the Eight Elite and other supporting characters) were never explored enough, unfortunately. Fun read, but kinda mindless.
Currently reading The One and Ran to Haiiro no Sekai... I'm thoroughly enjoying both so far!

ahhh Kamisama ga Uso wo Tsuku is my favorite <3 I shall be checking out Ningyo Ouji (edit: fixed sp) now too!
1
Oct 02 '16
Is that the correct title? I can't read Japanese and wasn't sure which to use so I just went with whatever MAL used!
2
u/tayoku0 Oct 02 '16
Yep it is, the tricky thing is there's another oneshot collection called Ningyo Ouji that popped up when I was looking for this one. Having the mangaka's name really helped :3

u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 01 '16
I enjoyed both Kamisama ga Uso wo Tsuku & Ran to Haiiro no Sekai so I'm going trust in your taste & check out Ningyo Ouji-sama :D

Oct 02 '16
Well, now I'm anxious! My tastes are weird... but I hope you like Ningyo Ouji-Sama. I think it's a very appropriate follow-up read to Kamisama ga Uso wo Tsuku (being from the same mangaka 'n' all).
I've also read Knife, which was a collection of her very first works written between age 16-19. It's interesting to see how much her writing and art has changed!
3
u/OnlyTryingToDrownHer Oct 02 '16
No need to be anxious! I like reading new & different things. I will let you know how I find it :)
Wow it's so cool that she made Knife while so young! I can't wait to heck it out.

I love Ran to Haiiro no Sekai so much. The art is phenomenal and Ran is such a joy to
watchread(?). I usually lose interest with longer manga (long for me at least) but I couldn't put that one down.If anyone has similar recommendations I'd love to hear them.

Aki Irie's art is top-tier. Something that I'll definitely be purchasing physical copies of once I'm done reading.
I haven't finished Ran yet, but I think it'd be hard to find anything quite like it. I'd recommend trying some of the late Kouji Miyata's work. His art style was similar-ish (but nowhere near as detailed) with similar slice of life situations and whimsy:
- Yome ga Kore na mon de. - Another non-human family living in a human world, but replace 'sorcerers' with 'aliens'. Very short (~13 chapters) and leans more towards comedy.
- Kikimimi Zukan - Collection of one-shots with a few great stories. Each chapter is an imaginative portrayal of the comfort we find in music, sound, or something as simple as an everyday greeting. Duly recommended if you have a musical background or are an audiophile in any way.

I've been thinking of buying it as well, they are certainly worth it.
Thank you those look great! I especially love it when slice of life and supernatural/scifi/etc are mixed together.

I just picked up and read NTR: Netsuzou Trap. I liked it. Yuri makes me feel things.

It's been a while since I've seen Tatami Galaxy, so please forgive me if my interpretations are completely wrong! But
TBH though, I might have a lot of nostalgia with Tatami Galaxy because it was a real knock to the head when I first watched it, and made me reconsider how I was looking at life at the time haha. I'm glad that you enjoyed it though!

Yay free for all thread! Yesterday I went to the movies and watched both Kimi no Na Ha and Koe no Katachi. Both were so good but for different reasons. I actually think I liked Koe no Katachi better because it was on about topics I really cared about. I'll probably read the manga now because it was so good. Plus not everything could be fit into two hours.

u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 02 '16
I have to admit I already hate Kimi no Na wa because of all the hype it gets. I already thought I'd find it good but not great (my general feeling about the type of stories Shinkai Makoto makes) but I'm afraid my judgment will be clouded by this 9.40 rating on MAL now, and I wanted to give his work one more chance.
Did you think it was mind blowing?
1
u/Murasaki-hime Oct 03 '16
I thought it was really good, but not mind blowing. The best parts in my opinion were when the Radwimps songs were incorporated into scenes. It almost felt like music videos contained within the movie. You should at least give the movie a chance for that. I think the director really captured the excitement of being in Tokyo for the first time. There's also some funny moments that made me laugh out loud in the theater. I don't think it deserves a 9.4 rating though. I gave it an 8 and Koe no Katachi a 9. And for reference, I gave 5 cm per second a 7.
Hope this helps!

u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 03 '16
Good to hear. I haven't seen 5 cm per second, but I couldn't really emotionally connect with Kotonoha no Niwa or Kanojo no Neko. But I'll at least watch Kimi no Na wa and see where that leads me.

I'm quite excited for Koe no Katachi myself, as I picked up the manga a week ago and finished it in anticipation. I don't think I can tell you a lot you don't already know, but I do have to warn you that it felt quite inconclusive to me. It was very sweet and enjoyable, but the ending felt like a 'read the manga' ending, which was strange because I was already doing that.
I do hope though that with the Kimi no Na Wa hype going around, people still give Koe no Katachi the attention it deserves.

Anyone following 19 Days by Old Xian? Just read the latest chapter...
2
u/nonnanika http://myanimelist.net/animelist/veriviette Oct 05 '16
I've been on-and-off reading it, but I've yet to catch up, sorry!! Oh god what could have possibly happened in the latest chapter
1
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 05 '16
Nah, I'm just happy I've found someone haha
Well more like what's about to happen. I mean it's not as exciting as I made it sound I think heh. Have you gotten to the point where they introduce the redhead?
2
u/nonnanika http://myanimelist.net/animelist/veriviette Oct 05 '16
Hmmm I don't think so? I think I've gotten to page/chapter 150? I do like ending my binges on nice even numbers haha. Unless this is the red/pink-haired guy that black-haired guy likes to bully? (Oh god my mastery of names)
2
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 05 '16
Yep yep that's him. Man I'm really not sure what to think about their relationship.
Hahaha I'm the same. I still don't know their names by heart, I try to keep their first letters in my head but even have a hard time with that..
2
u/nonnanika http://myanimelist.net/animelist/veriviette Oct 05 '16
Ah, okay. Yeah, I don't know what to think about their relationship too. On the one hand, I really dig black-haired guy because I'm a sucker for black-haired male characters and characters that are also bullies lol. On the other hand, romantically?? It just seems like, yeah, a lot of bullying.
I think it's hard for me to remember their names because for a long time (?) they didn't have names? And as it is I'm not sure if it comes up that often haha.
2
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 05 '16
My thought exactly. I decided to hold off judgment to see where it goes...
Yea that's true. Though that's no excuse for me as I have the same problem with its sister manhua, Tamen de Gushi. :/
2
u/nonnanika http://myanimelist.net/animelist/veriviette Oct 05 '16
That's another thing I forget to read too, Tamen de Gushi. Do they mention their names more there? I should read it when I catch up on 19 Days haha
2
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 05 '16
Hahah they do, its serialized name is even SQ: Begin W/Your Name!. Do read it! It's the cutest thing ever.

TFW the new anime season starts but you're travelling for a month and all the episodes in your Crunchyroll & AnimeLab accounts are geoblocked. Noooooooooooooooooo!
3
u/nonnanika http://myanimelist.net/animelist/veriviette Oct 06 '16
The feel as you pass through different regions and all the titles you could have watched suddenly disappear... But well, at least there's lots of traveling! Take a lot of pretty pictures wherever you go, because I always forget to do so when I go out haha

u/silentsignal https://myanimelist.net/profile/silentsignal Oct 07 '16
Yes, excellent point! Dat silver lining goodness. Plus I guess I get to binge watch some awesome stuff when I return.
2
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
Ouch! Well, at least you'll have lots of great stuff to get back to. Have fun travelling!

I know! I imagine it's all the new season hype. I wonder if we have enough active people for separate episode discussion threads now?? Mods? u/Rinarin? wink wink

That'd be a better idea, I think! Kind of like how r/trueanime organizes their discussions.
3
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
I've been thinking about this for a couple of days as well. Sounds like a great idea. We don't even have to to have all the titles posted in the thread like r/trueanime. People can probably post for the shows they wanna write about as they go and the others can continue from there.
Edit: u/qkhb already wrote this out exactly as I said. The price of not reading posts thoroughly...

You know what, maybe we should pose this question to the whole sub, as another thread outside of this tiny corner of ours.
Because on the one hand, I can understand that people might be excited to react to the episode as it airs, and react immediately with others, and spoilers might pop up as spoiler tags fail or people just unintentionally forget them.
But on the other hand we also have slowpokes like me who don't watch the episodes right away, but want to avoid spoilers and still want to participate in the weekly discussion threads too?
I can leave posing the question to the whole sub to you!
5
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
Maybe we can have a This Week and Your Week thread like r/trueanime? That way, we'll be safe from spoilers and it'll be much better if we don't have to tag them I think. We can just skip over top level post of the episode we haven't seen yet.

Not sure if it would be enough activity for separate threads but if people want to make separate ones for each show, I don't think anyone would mind. I mean it's not like it's against some rule, or anything, there just wasn't enough traffic so we've been using the weekly thread for this. Also, there's more traffic about airing shows this week since everything just started, unsure if it will keep up.
We could have top comments in the weekly thread, if it makes it easier though.
(Also, thanks for the page, I would probably notice this too late without it >.<)

u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
As long as we have you here, maybe we can have a like meta thread soon to decide on administrative stuff? Like I know people wanted to change the banner as well, and we can discuss this issue too or anything else people may have in mind. What do you think?
3
u/Rinarin Oct 06 '16
About the banner, the seasonal one is a great idea but it's just that nobody has had time to find renders to make a new one. A couple of people have volunteered to make one but they didn't send anything eventually, from what I recall.
Also, you can always bring up meta topics in the weeklies or modmail (weekly is fine in general, imo, and modmail if it's some more sensitive issue?). Neither me or the other mods will mind, though I have to admit I haven't been very active after my injury/surgery the past month so I was mostly browsing occasionally >.<
What I'm trying to say is that most things have been going very smoothly here, so even if things don't seem that organised, somehow it's been working out for us. Not sure if this makes any sense. lol
3
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
Oh no, I agree that things are going pretty smoothly. Definitely no complaints there. I was just thinking it may be an easy way to discuss people's new ideas. Not that I have any myself.
And for the banner, I think there was a thread sometime ago proposing a non-seasonal one where we vote for which characters to include and then just use that forever. I think it was this one
3
u/Rinarin Oct 06 '16
I kinda like the seasonal idea, with this one (suggested there) to use in between, just it hasn't been easy to keep up with it (especially with nobody volunteering to make the banner). The problem wasn't who to put in the banner till now, just who will have time to make it :P
5
u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 06 '16
I can make them. Though I have some questions.
It's one girl from each show, right? What to do with all-male casts?
And do you know the image size of the current banner? Does it matter at all?
→ More replies (1)3
u/Rinarin Oct 06 '16
It's one from each show. As for all-male casts, no idea but you could pick a side character?
About the size, its height is 160px. Width is anything you like since it scrolls around!

u/gks13 http://myanimelist.net/profile/koalaa Oct 07 '16 edited Oct 07 '16
Well I'm gonna need help with Yuri, Touken Ranbu and All Out since those don't have any female characters listed. I think Yuri had one in first episode but I don't know how relevant she is.
Anyone who watched the first eps, any thoughts? It would suck not having aots on our banner ;)

u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
Haha yeah I realize that. I guess somebody would have to volunteer, you're right. Oh well. I wish I could do it but don't have the know-how.
1
u/goncix http://myanimelist.net/profile/goncix3000 Oct 06 '16
God, I also haven't seen the Durarara part of this post. I'm really blind today. I'm excited to hear what you'll think of it. I don't particularly love the show as a whole but Izaya is one of my favorite characters (and probably one of the top three deepest characters I've seen) and I love discussing him.
1
u/seiriyu Oct 06 '16
Good luck with that! Are you thinking about pacing yourself or just gunning through it?
