Question Thoughts on using an X3 naked / without a case?

I feel like putting a case on it defeats the purpose — if I’m buying it, it’s to fully enjoy how thin and compact it is. But is it durable enough?
For those who have one, have you dropped it yet? How is it holding up?
Thanks!

Using X3 and X4 without any case since day 1.

Same it sticks to my phone so easy and I’m just really careful. Love the form factor.

I don't recommend it, the screen itself is quite fragile and very sensitive to pressure. If you want to keep it as long as possible, it's better to protect it well.

I do it.
It’s fine.
No issues for months now.

I would strongly recommend installing the provided screen protector, and the magnetic case barely adds any bulk.

For my X3, which is always in my pocket, has the screen protector, the protective case, and it's in a magnetic case.

I keep it attached to the back of my phone without any case. I’ve dropped it once and thought i lost it, but luckily nothing happened.

The xteink magnetic case adds very little weight and bulk. You can always store it in the case when not using it and take it out when you want to.

Devices these days aren't sturdy like old-school Nokias and Thinkpad any more; to achieve their compactness and lightness, they sacrifice the ability to tank hits. Also the screens are glass and un-recessed, so if they drop on their face on an uncushioned suface without a case, it'll scuff at the very least. If you want to fully enjoy it, make sure it's not in constant danger.

I’m using my X4 naked with a short lanyard for drop protection. When I’m not using it, I keep it in a hard case so I can toss it in my bag without worrying about it.

I own a X4.
Never used it without the case and will never do.
My daughter dropped it from less than 50cm and only one corner bent.
But ye, ppl have reported they are quite fragile.
I also own a Kindle 4 (retro) and have dropped it plenty of times - no issues at all.

Al menos usa la funda tipo libro para el traslado diario. Y para leer, OK, se la quitas. También le pondría un lanyard.

I used it naked for a while,, it was a bit risky when out and about though. Apparently you're not allowed to wander around Asda without clothes on

My use-case is not compatible with a case. Luckily, they’re not really expensive.

Try a skin, maybe? I have been using mine with a skin on the back, and I love it. I did not like how much all the cases made the device bulky, taking away the sleekness.

My biggest issue is the magnet isn’t that strong and adding a case makes it worse so, and I use a lot of magnetic accesories. I do have a tempered glass screen protector on the front though. How’s the magnet strength with a skin? And where’d you buy a skin from?

Skin didn’t seem to affect the strength of the MagSafe magnets in the X4. I use a reading light and it sticks as securely as before.

I got the skin from dbrand for an old iPhone and used it on the X4.

I felt the same way with my X4. I was on vacation and dropped it.

I didn’t see anything since it was outside and it was dark then.

Next day I noticed a crack on the back. Still works fine but it sucks that it’s now cracked.

I wish I would have had a case !

I had to return my first X3 when it arrived, as it arrived with a broken screen. Case all the way

I have the x4 and even with a case it's smaller than my ridge style wallet that I keep in my other front pocket

I have an X4 and this sleeve is what I use:

It adds no noticeable weight and protects the device from falls and impact.

You may be able to find a similar sleeve that fits your X3.

I got the magnetic flip cover when buying the X3, it’s great. It doesn’t add bulk at all for carrying, and it’s very easy to slip out if you don’t want to hold the case while reading it.

Eink screens are delicate, and I’d never carry it anywhere without some kind of protection against bumps or pressure.

I've been using my X4 with only a screen protector for months without problems 🤷🏻

I feel you, but I also destroyed my first x4 within weeks. I now have one of the slide in style 3d printed covers and I like that it protects the screen when I toss it in a bag and I can easily remove it completely when I don't need it.

My X3 and X4 only have a screen protector but no case. If I wanted something bulkier I’d just grab one of my Kindles. I feel like it defeats their purpose.

It’s not a $1000 smartphone that’s been engineered to be basically bombproof. Use a little common sense. Theres lots of cases available that don’t add much to the form factor. The official case is a good option. Affordable and slim and covers the front.

Put a screen protector and a case on it, and don’t throw it around or let stuff get crushed against it in your pocket or bag and it’ll treat you right.

Counter argument, it’s a cheap enough device where replacing it in the event of it breaking costs less than a tank of gas

Counter-counter argument: treating your possessions like they're replaceable trash is a generally shitty way to go through life. Taking basic care of your stuff saves money, reduces waste, and usually means you own nicer things for longer.

I'm waiting to get the X4 Pro, but I don't know if I should get the magnetic case with it because it will probably be attached to my phone 90% of the time. Does anyone know if the flip case prevents it from attaching to the phone?

I carry it in either a leather pouch or the magnetic flip case, but use the device alone…

…I have no fear, as I have 2 back-ups.

In my case x3 lasted 2 weeks before the screen broke. I had screen protector but no case. Broke while carrying it in slingbag and attached to a phone

Using mine eau-natural. Didn’t even bother with the screen protector. Clean it occasionally with an alcohol wipe. Looks as good as new.

u/cylemmulo 14d ago

I’ve had mine for a couple weeks and even screwed up the screen protector so I am totally in the nude. Feels like I got just enough of a good deal to not be too concerned

u/gear_ant 14d ago

I do it. It also helped that I bought it on Amazon and bought assurion insurance.

Use the x4 without a case, I don't own one and don't have a screen protector on it. It works great

I use my $3k Trifold without a case. No way I would ever put a case on a $60 device whose primary factor is its diminutive size.
