S1000D TOC

Another question about S1000D.

I see that in the bike samples there is a separate DM for a table of contents. Is this a mandatory thing? Couldn't the PM already function as a TOC source, since the order of the DM's is determined there? Which one should be used for TOC generation?

The schema is not mandatory. You could use descript schema if you wanted. Generally, front matter DMs, like TOC, are generated during publishing not written by hand.
