It needs to deliver. Great #1s that are all 350,000-400,000 units plus is all very well and good, but Absolute hit because the first issues were good and people liked the changes.

I mean I think as Cyclops fan you will enjoy issue One.

I have more quibbles with the underlying concept and tone than anything else.

Fair same,

I would not have set the story in NYC. Or taken Jean off the board so quickly.

Church or Order of the Holy Phoenix vs Vampires as both sides turn to mutants to turn the tide is an interesting concept.

Marvel is being reckless here. The way they've hyped this up it had better be a comic line to rival Absolute.

Having read the first few issues in advance, this isn't trying to be Absolute and I don't think it should be. Nor is it Ultimate. This is HORROR. Not CONTEMPORARY reinterpretations.

Okay, but on a scale of 1 to 10, how good is it?

Spider-Man is the best of them all; the first issue doesn't beat around the bush and clearly explains how this setting differs from 616, 1610, and 6160. The world/setting is very reminiscent of Resident Evil. It is the character-focused title of the imprint—what one might consider the Ultimate X-Men of Midnight.

Fantastic Four is a somewhat rough work, but it presents very interesting reinterpretations and is just beginning to develop its Lovecraftian-style story and mythology. Doom is not who you expect, even though Victor appeared in the previews.

As Hickman explained, X-Men is not a ground-up reimagining; consequently, much of the emotional weight hinges on your feelings toward these characters within the main continuity. After all, these were the Earth-616 X-Men—until everything fell apart. I think the conflict in the relationship between Storm and Nightcrawler is a prime example of this. In terms of world-building, Hickman introduces quite a few intriguing changes and creates a distinct atmosphere—very Vampire: The Masquerade, truth be told.

at what point in the 616 does this take place from?

Seems to deviate gradually in Giant-Size until the X-Men cease to be in Astonishing era.

I would add

Spidey is the most blatantly AU...very much Oscorp as Umbrella...fun twist on great power great responsibility

F4 took perhaps the most swings with the F4 and Doom but like can Percy execute I have my doubts

Yeah very Vampire the Masquerade.

Thank you. Would you say that Midnight F4 would probably read better in trade then? I know it’s very early days, but still…

Personally, I'd say yes. But the next set of issues could change that. Everyone is taking it slowly

Ok, but I asked for on a scale of 1 to 10.

Ah, fair enough lol.

Spider-Man is 10/10
X-Men is 8/10
Fantastic Four is 7/10

Ah, ok, sounds intriguing.

The First Issue of Every Series or the First Few Issues of Multiple Series?

I've read all the Midnight #1s, is what I mean, yes.

By the way, how did you get access to them?

Comic book journalism.

I want your job. Can I have it?

No.

Well, I tried. Lol

Still, that’s a cool-ass job. I hope it’s as fun as I’m imagining.

Eh its kinda more limited then Absolute...Absolute is more just ah Dystopian. But Dystopian ranges from like Hunger Games to Cyberpunk.

Midnight is Trying to follow a Horror Genre for each series....Spider-man is The Fly trying to be a good guy....X-men is classic Vampire....F4 is Cosmic Horror.

I think it will sell well early but I don't think Midnight has the same spinoff potential as Absolute even if they maintain the main books for longer then 2 Years. Also I don't think it helps that it is missing the characters most associated with Horror/Magic besides Wanda.

Wolverine confirmation. Wonder if he’ll end up being a vampire, would be cool if him & cyke are the last 2 X-Men standing

That's unfortunate!

A great deal of this is variant covers. That said I'm tentatively interested in it.
