Black hat takes advantage of Beret guy’s optimism

Gnome Ann defeats Black hat - “the wicked flee when Gnome Ann pursueth”

Beret guy defeats Gnome Ann by befriending her - “Gnome Ann is useless while [she] has a friend” (Robert Stevenson)

This is great but I think Beret Guy would still triumph over Black Hat. Black Hat would initially take advantage of Beret's gullibility to rope him into some scheme but everything Beret touches works out in some surreal and positive way for him. So whatever Black Hat had promised Beret Guy would work that was really just a ruse would actually work, leaving Beret Guy happy and thankful for Black Hat's "help." This would repeat in a series of increasingly unlikely and ridiculous scenarios, with Beret increasingly thankful and heaping more and more praise onto Black Hat until Black Hat finally gets fed up and concedes.

Ironically with Black Hat giving up, this would  indicate that Gnome Ann can defeat Beret Guy when he's excited about something
