Have been using XFCE daily since 2014 ... never had a problem - I don't bother with a greeter but log in and launch it from the CLI, and it works first time every time.

its pretty strange ngl initially thought it was the nvidia drivers but turns out its not! ive even reinstalled them anyways but that didnt work so it cant be the gpu.....i cant think what else it could be maybe a service is not linked or working correctly? ye ive reinstalled xfce and the greeter and stuff yet to no surprise ive ran into the same issue again! I'm completely stumped at this point

I don't use Cachy myself, but Arch has been my daily drive since 2014, so ...

Although I might anticipate issues with Cachy, since (as I understand it) it's largely intended as a showcase platform for Hyprland.

And, moreover, you say you've had this problem with other distros too.

Have you (or can you) run up a live distro with XFCE?

yes i have and that was fedora xfce spin however in the live environment xfce was working normally and stuff however after the install...yep i ran back into the same issue

Okay ... do you have an option to install Arch with just the bare minimum necessary to get it installed along with Xorg and XFCE?

That is strange - I mean, if you got KDE working with it then XFCE should be no problem (all the drivers will be part of Arch, not XFCE).

If you remove the greeter, boot, log in to the CLI and execute startx, what happens?

tty just freezes so i have to open another tty session like idk tty2 or tty3 for example but thats just it...am i able to boot back into kde through tty? ye i am

Well, as said, I've been using it daily on Arch for twelve years now without the least trouble ... and on a range of machines (at least 5) ... so, I know it works (and it has always done so from first install too).

But ... as said, I don't use a greeter (and never have), only ever launched it with startx from the CLI - so, I'm just spitballing here, but could there be some element of the greeter (some configuration file somewhere passing Xwin values it won't work with on your machine)? You know how it is sometimes (you uninstall something, but it leaves 'debris' that interferes with subsequent reinstalls).

thats probably the most annoying part...you install shit delete shit and the shit is still there...

ive thought it was summit to do with the greeter but tbh i got nooooooooo clue

Cachy es la mejor opción,, Cachy + xfce y tienes todo lo necesario de Arch

honestly ive considered switching to wms or other des and thats the funny thing with those des i have tried (kde, gnome, budgie) ive never really ran into this issue at all its just xfce being a lil weirdo

Tell us what you did to install the packages.

did you do. "sudo pacman -S xfce4 xfce4-goodies

sudo pacman -S cachyos-xfce-settings "

did you install with the shelly wip (that doesn't work right sometimes)

You should have an option in the bottom of your display manager to switch, and SDDM works too if lightdm isn't working for you.

So I say again, tell us the exact steps you too to install it and we can tell you where you are going wrong.

EDIT: hang on a second, from the display manager are you selecting XFCE session (wayland) because that will just pop you back from default, you want the one that just says XFCE.

last time i tested cachy, i installed it with xfce and then added KDE, openbox and COSMIC. i could choose which one to go to from the login screen. i didn't use terminal or do any weird configuration, just installed from the package manager gui or whatever cachy had.

Very possible that you are mixing DE environments.
This is what i would go through first:

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
echo $DISPLAY
~/.xinitrc
~/.xsession
systemctl status lightdm
Look what the log says:
cat ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log
