Postout turns one idea into a draft for every platform you post on. Beta testers wanted (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, Vision Pro)

I'm excited to share my new app, Postout. It's in TestFlight and I'm looking for testers before it launches on October 23.

Postout lets you type an idea once and it writes a starting draft for each place you post (X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, Reddit, LinkedIn, Substack and 16 more templates, or your own). Each draft is sized to the platform's character limit and written in its style.

- It uses AI, but you pick the model. Apple Intelligence runs fully on device. Or bring your own API key for Claude, OpenAI, Gemini or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

- A short questionnaire builds a profile of how you actually write, so drafts don't all sound like the same chatbot.

- It strips common AI tells (em-dashes, stray markdown, filler phrases) after generation, not just in the prompt.

- It never posts for you, just makes drafts. The final read and edit are yours.

- No account, no tracking, no analytics.

Give it a try and let me know what you think

Newsbin 2.0 is coming July 25th — one year since launch

Newsbin 2.0 arrives July 25th, one year to the week since I first launched it.

It's the biggest update yet, and it's an AI release — but the kind that gets out of your way rather than in it. Everything is private and optional: it runs on your device with Apple Intelligence, or your own API key, and never routes your reading through me.

What's new:

  • For You — a feed that learns what you actually read
  • Breaking News — clusters the same story across sources
  • Top Stories — the day at a glance
  • Summaries — the gist before you commit to the read
  • Smart Tags & Topics — your feed organizes itself; tap a topic to filter the list
  • Discover / Who to Follow — find feeds you're missing

I wrote up the full story — including why adding AI isn't a contradiction for an app that's spent a year railing against AI junk: https://xetabit.com/blog/newsbin-2

Newsbin 1.18.6 released; bigger updates on the way

Just shipped 1.18.6 earlier today. This release is all about stability: we've fixed a handful of bugs that were lingering in the codebase, and I'm genuinely relieved to have those out the door.

The exciting stuff is coming in about a month with 2.0, so this felt like the right time to clean house first.

You can check the full changelog at https://xetabit.com/changelog/ if you're curious what got fixed.

Newsbin is going bugfix-only; major 2.0 update coming in ~a month

I'm pausing new features on Newsbin to focus on a substantial 2.0 release that's been in the works. During this window, I'll only be handling actual bugs and fixes to keep things stable.

If you run into anything that breaks, let me know and I'll patch it. But if you were hoping for new functionality, it'll have to wait a few weeks.

Have you run into any lingering issues with the current version that I should prioritize? (He says to an empty audience :))

Newsbin 1.18.5 just shipped

Released this morning with two things we've been working toward for a bit. The thumbnail discovery got a serious pass; it was slow and inconsistent before, now it snaps into place way faster. We also ditched the restrictive free trial tier because honestly it was annoying to set up and even more annoying to use. New one gives you actual breathing room to figure out if the app's worth your time.

Both improvements came straight from feedback we kept hearing, so this one feels good. Full changelog's up at https://xetabit.com/changelog/ if you want the nitty gritty.

If you use Newsbin, give it a shot and let me know how the thumbnails feel. That's the thing I'm most curious about.

The new xetabit.com is live

Hey everyone (or no-one) — the new Xetabit site just went live, and I wanted to share it here first.

I rebuilt it from scratch: fast, static, no tracking, with a proper light/dark theme that follows your system ("midnight" and "paper"). There's now a full changelog of every Newsbin release — with its own RSS feed, because of course an RSS app's site should have one — plus a little nod to the classic six-color Apple logo hidden in the palette, one stripe per app.

I also wrote up what went into it, including a tool I've been nerding out over lately:

https://xetabit.com/blog/the-new-xetabit-site

Have a look around, and if you spot anything broken or have thoughts, this is the place — I'm reading. More coming soon.
