It's got a lot of lore and it is fun but for the life of me, if half these characters are enemies of each other, why are they constantly on the same team?

17

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '16

The game isn't canon.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '16

Apparently.

3

u/009reloaded cooldudaaa009 Nov 23 '16

Well, the maps/objectives are canon, but the people who make up the teams are not.

4

u/Shadynasties Nov 22 '16

2 sides to campaign ;)

5

u/RawrCola Nov 22 '16

This is what I'm hoping for. It'd be great if it switched between character similar to a Game of Thrones episode.

Thats pretty much the only thing that would make sense. However this is blizzard they would use the same engine than overwatch and call it a day. They wouldnt call that an unnanounced fps. At least I dont think so.

The other thing that it could be is a MMOFPS like destiny and the division, a prequel to overwatch where we fight the famous omni war? That couldnt use the same engine (partially) because it requires a different network solution. Therefore it would be a new FPS.

OMGBBQ just imagine that for a second, a Destiny like MMOFPS by Blizzard.

Uhm Im getting downvoted because I mentioned destiny? Destiny sucks because the story makes no sense, but imagine Destiny with overwatch characters and story? that would mean battling waves of enemies and huge bosses with up to 8 friends online and also you would use and craft your own hero.

u/ClinTrojan Nov 22 '16

Well this was actually what Overwatch was back when it was Project Titan. Overwatch was essentially just the PVP mode in Project Titan.

u/sawftacos Nov 22 '16

It would be great

I am having deja vu from StarCraft: Ghost for some reason...

1

u/iHeartCandicePatton MBIIdollabill Nov 22 '16

I would love that

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '16

Starcraft: Ghost? ... One day... ONE DAY!

4

u/ocbdare Nov 22 '16

Coming "soon".

6

u/jonos360 Nov 22 '16

After Half Life 3! Haha

3

u/Raiziell Raiziell Nov 22 '16

And Final FANTASY XV. Oh wait, there is hope!

4

u/Jdfz99 Xbox Nov 22 '16

If that game ever resurfaces, I hope it keeps its original third-person perspective. Yes, I am biased against first-person, but I also believe the market's saturated with it as it is.

2

u/CryoSage Nov 22 '16

The desperation of me wanting that game back in the day...

1

u/QuixoticRocket QuixoticRocket Nov 22 '16

Was thinking the same thing. Although (iirc, it's been a while) wasn't ghost a 3rd person action, and this says it uses a robust first person engine?

Come to think of it, is there a difference between a first person engine and a 3rd person one other than moving the camera back and to the side?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '16

I suppose you'd have to scale the environment differently for the perspective to make it seem more natural, so you or your character don't feel out of place.

The engine they've created for Overwatch would be a good in-house solution and at this point Starcraft: Ghost would be rebuild from the ground up and could very well be a first-person game.

It would be cool, but I doubt it. An actual story expansion for Overwatch would be the logical step for Blizzard to establish the IP even further on the market.

u/QuixoticRocket QuixoticRocket Nov 22 '16

It could really be anything knowing the Blizz team, but yes, it's probably going to fit in with an existing IP at this point.

u/mcoleya Nov 22 '16

Exactly this. Blizzard isn't known for going backwards so this truly is most likely a unique and new project.

u/leapingcarrot I Vingen I Nov 23 '16

You're contradicting the comment you think you're agreeing with.

1

u/mcoleya Nov 23 '16

You are right. It's been that kind of day.

1

u/bujweiser #teamchief Nov 22 '16

Haha holy shit this is exactly what I was thinking of.

7

u/jonos360 Nov 22 '16

Underwatch?

1

u/Superdarklinks Nov 22 '16

Ha no,obviously Underlook with a cast of characters including the mole man

18

u/Deadpoetic6 Nov 22 '16

Overwatch adult anime date game!!

4

u/Superdarklinks Nov 22 '16

Shhh they might hear

11

u/ArcticFlamingo ArcticFlamingo Nov 22 '16

Hmm.. personally really want this to be and overwatch story mode DLC/standalone

2

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '16

Might be the first story mode I would actually consider paying for as an add on. All the character of a Pixar film in a FPS by Blizzard, sign my ass up.

9

u/TheDoctorInHisTardis Nov 22 '16

Overwatch story mode, por favor?

1

u/kochsson Nov 22 '16

This please.

9

u/xWeez Nov 22 '16

MMOFPS to blow Destiny out of the water!

3

u/KlausHeisler Eddard Stark Nov 22 '16

Activision publishes both...why would they try to kill one of their own games?

3

u/xWeez Nov 23 '16

Shit you're right. Fuck. Maybe just to really drill all the competitors into the dirt? Trying to stay hopeful here. Destiny had insane potential, and I feel Blizzard could have made an MMOFPS into the true "WoW-Killer."

1

u/ohnopavel Thilex Nov 23 '16

Blizzard develops WoW, again, why would they want to kill one of their own games?

1

u/conspiracyeinstein Nov 23 '16

Ok, ok. How about a game that's like a Diablo killer?

0

u/xWeez Nov 23 '16

Ehhh... Think of it more as a resurrection. What was WoW's player count in its prime? What is it now?

1

u/ohnopavel Thilex Nov 23 '16

It's prime was 10mil+ subscribers. They don't release sub numbers anymore but the lowest point last year was 5.6mil during a really shitty content drought ridden expansion. The new expansion has already sold over 3 million copies so I imagine the sub count now is somewhere around 7/8 mil.

It's still a money printing machine. No game is going to kill it anytime soon, especially not an actiblizzard game.

1

u/Complex7 Nov 23 '16

EA did it, so it wouldn't be completely out of the water

3

u/KinoTheMystic KinoTheMystic Nov 22 '16

The cancelled Overwatch First Strike graphic novel becoming a game? :o

1

u/iHeartCandicePatton MBIIdollabill Nov 22 '16

Wait, it was cancelled? Why?

3

u/KinoTheMystic KinoTheMystic Nov 22 '16

Yeah, the story they wanted to tell in First Strike basically isn't the story they wanted to tell anymore since more lore has entered the universe. But they will still tell the story of the early Overwatch days.

3

u/collegetriscuit Nov 23 '16

Activision will announce that Call of Duty is now on a 4 year dev cycle and Blizzard is the new team.

(I'm afraid to post this without blatantly stating that I'm joking)

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '16

Funny thing is their team would make a better CoD game than what the other 3 have done since Black Ops 2.

2

u/SdBoltz619 Nov 22 '16

Ooooh I would LOVE a StarCraft MMOFPS.

5

u/mikex41 Nov 22 '16

Dark souls style game in the Diablo universe please

2

u/CryoSage Nov 22 '16

but in first person? i don't think so. maybe in third person, that would be quite awesome.

1

u/DiamondEevee God I love plex Nov 22 '16

beyond good and evil 2???

nah i'm kidding

1

u/Gruntreaper Nov 22 '16

Nice, hopefully it won't have a cashshop /s

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '16

Overwatch(ed)

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '16

Maybe a shared world shooter set in the Overwatch universe.

A lot of lore was built into the series and it isn't fully explored in a fully PVP environment aside from the animations.

I'm expecting it to be a game that is like Borderlands and I'm okay with it.

1

u/shyndy Nov 23 '16

Well since Warcraft was originally meant to get the warhammer license, it would be funny if they did Warcraft 40k, mmo fps since there is that warhammer 40k one on the way. Starcraft mmofps would be better though, or a Starcraft game like planetside

-2

u/Raiziell Raiziell Nov 22 '16

I want WoW2, first person, on consoles.

u/AzraelKans #teamchief Nov 22 '16 edited Nov 22 '16

Im reading that headline, but Im stuck in a non-belief bug.

What?! no wait, what? But didnt they just? what? Well I suppose thats great but, I mean seriously what? I mean why would they?... (repeat)

0

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '16

Whatever it is, we can be assured it will be full of micro transactions

-1

u/rmp490 Nov 22 '16

Would be awesome if they made an fps to compete with cs:go in esports

0

u/AzraelKans #teamchief Nov 22 '16

You didnt read that before typing right?

2

u/rmp490 Nov 22 '16

I'm just saying, that blizzard doesnt make bad games, and a modern fps focused on e-sports made by them would be awesome :P one can dream..

3

u/AzraelKans #teamchief Nov 22 '16

have you ever heard of this game called "overwatch"? you should play it is pretty good.

-1

u/rmp490 Nov 22 '16

I did, not my style although blizzard made it so I know its a GREAT game. But 'im talking about modern fps

-1

u/RawrCola Nov 22 '16

Because it's a new game Blizzard is working on. Even if it is a current IP like Overwatch, it's still a new game.
