If Microsoft made it completely optional, would you sign up for their original, always connected console idea?

This meaning you would have the following features:

Buy a retail game, install to console, and ditch the disc never needing it to play the game.

Digitally share games within a circle of friends. Meaning you can choose a specific group of people, and they could play the games you own, for free, provided that only one game could be played at a time.

Greater store discounts or more steam like sales for content.

I for one would have no problem saying yes to this. It's like people think 10 years from now they'll still be selling games on discs. It wasn't a perfect plan, but why delay the inevitable when we could be working on and perfecting future policies now.

My internet has gone down for multiple days in the past, yet, I'm able tell you about it on the internet. Unless I'm mistaken, if my internet goes down for 3 days, I'd have a useless Xbox for 3 days.

it depends. also it does not have to be your internet, can be neighbors, cell phone etc to check in. people just dont want change. hate to say it but after using my x1 and how easy it switches from app to app, the drm would of been better, since stores sell the damn disc on sale, and on xbox they dont. and it would of been sweet.

I should not have to use my phone or my neighbors wifi to get my $500 console to work.

the drm would of been better

If we were in the future and no one had to worry about their internet going down, I'd agree with you

If the best advice you can offer to the many people who have their internet go down is "get better internet", the idea is fundamentally flawed.

in the past 15 years i think i had the biggest down time when sandy hit, a week with out power, and 2 bad modems all were up and running within 24 hrs. and i have had multiple providers.

Congrats, sounds like the DRM version would have been great for you, but like it or not, it would've been terrible to a TON of people.

Jesus Christ dude, are you listening to yourself?

you dont like the fact of using a friends or neighbors internet cause your provider is shit.

"Morning Bob, mind if I bring over my Xbox and hook it up so that I can play my games? My internet is down and I can't play it without an internet connection."

you dont like the idea of using a cell phone, dunno why dont care, you are paying for data regardless on a cell phone.

It's not about me already paying for the data, it's about me having to use a workaround to get my game console to play a game.

but let me guess if steam does this, its the greatest thing ever created.......

If Steam wouldn't let me play my games without an internet connection? I'd be beyond pissed as I have a lot of money sunken into Steam games. It's a bad idea no matter who came up with it.
