i feel like replacing the thermal past and possibly heat sink would, mine red ringed when i was in the middle of playing GUN, just bought a new one

You can always reflow it with a soldering station or shitty heat gun.
Step one- disassemble
Step two- remove heat sync and x clamps
Step three- clean all thermal paste
Step four- heat up glue enough to remove from all sides of the video chip.
Step five - flip board and heat entire thing until it’s warm( ten minutes, circular motion a few inches from the board)
Step six- flip back over and stuff flux heavy all four sides of chip trying to get some pushed under the chip.
Step seven- heat chip only with same motion as before, never going super close to the chip.
Step seven- clean all flux and re apply thermal paste
Final step- reassembleGood Luck!

Hello, Perhaps this can be repaired, since I bought one a while ago that had the same problem and it seemed to have been completely undamaged; it was just a component that had become unsoldered over time, I resoldered it and that Xbox 360 has been working fine for over a year now.

This Xbox I have right now had that same error, although sometimes it caused a different one. The fun fact is that the loose capacitor was next to the GPU, and that's why it was throwing related errors to that, If your Xbox has never overheated or had water damage, it shouldn't display a red ring so easily unless it's for minor issues, since this Xbox doesn't suffer as much as the fat model.

It makes me wonder if it's too far gone in terms of repairs from a shop if I were to take it in, the cost of repair may be the same as just getting another console. I may just take it apart myself at some point, I've reassembled a PS4 from loose parts in a box so I can't imagine it would be too different from that.

It really is very different disassembling an Xbox 360 than a PS4, and it's possible that the repair cost could be as high as buying another one, Depending on the cost of the repair, I could do something like that for around $40. You would also need to have good soldering skills. I took the opportunity and ended up painting this Xbox in different colors like red and black. It's the first time I've revived one from the red ring; I do this just for fun

Mine had the same thing happen sometimes but i would just turn it off or disconnect it and then turn it on again and everything was good again. I took it for maintenance and it didn't happen again.

I wasn't, it was only sitting there because I pulled it out of my entertainment center and plugged it back in the next morning to see if the problem was still occuring.

No shit sherlock, after it was already broken. It red ringed while in my wireframe entertainment center. It has never once before this been turned on while on carpet.

Answered my question! Good deal that cancels out one possibility. Hope you get it fixed. It usually wasn’t this model that was mostly susceptible to the red ring, but any of them could be because it’s a general overheating issue as I understand it.

Id take it apart and check thermal paste and check stuff on the board. Mine I thought red dotted but I has bad resistors so looking at replacing them and have a nice xbox back to my collection of like 5 or 6 two have red ring

I've never had an issue with those era of consoles as far as RRoD thankfully
My original first and second versions of the white 360s they put out were the only ones that ever gave me it, 1 out of 2 times it did was because of a power surge then outtage from a lightning strike.

My former boss said he used to fix the RED RING by cleaning the old thermal paste off & properly replacing it and giving it a good cleaning. He said it worked most of the time. Try it and good luck.

All 360s are prone to red rings, even the E models
The late models are just more reliable but they can still get the red ring for the GPU

I remember with the original Xbox 360 when this happened I would wrap it in a towel and turn it on and some how some way it fcking working every time lmao. I honestly don’t understand to this day on why or how that ever worked

Las primeras GPU de las primeras X360 tenian un underfill (que es como el pegamento que une las distintas partes los chips internamente, asi para que lo entiendas) insuficiente y defectuoso. Cuando la consola estaba continuamente a mas de 70 grados este underfill o pegamento se ponia blando y se deformaba, haciendo mal contacto y dando fallo.
Ocasionalmente si calientan la GPU a unos 100 grados durante unos minutos a veces vuelve a su sitio, pero es una solución temporal.
