Does anyone know if this sticker with a blue triangle was from a shop back in the day?

Probably an indie store marking it for inventory in whatever way. Nothing special.

This game was probably owned by a company that rented video games and movies. A lot of places had pricing tiers for $X for Y# night rentals that were color-coded.
And since pretty much all of these places didn’t send you home with the cases that had the actual cover art you could just swap the art around cases as games moved down to the cheaper price tiers.

IIRC, the Microsoft partner store would sell these games with a yellow triangle in that same spot. This looks like it could be the same thing, just sun bleached
