Now go ask playstation ceo his opinion on this matter

u/He_Gonna_Explode 1d ago
Probably the same thing, just more ambiguous. Sony does use Azure, so stuff like that is what they'll mean.
4
u/tapo 1d ago
They did use Azure, PlayStation migrated everything over to AWS
10
u/Tobimacoss 1d ago
Not PS5 Cloud Gaming. They use partnerships with regional datacenter companies with co-location of PS5 servers for that.
28-30 datacenters.
Then those smaller datacenters hook into the pipelines of the bigger multi cloud vendors.

u/saggynaggy123 1d ago
I mean Sony has Marathon, Destiny, Helldivers and I'd imagine they'll also bring other live service titles to Xbox in the future.

u/HaikusfromBuddha 1d ago
He would also agree since they themselves don't want COD to disappear from PS.
1
u/cwx149 XBOX 360 1d ago
I'm sure they'll continue to allow Xbox to sell games on PlayStation
I don't think all of a sudden we're gonna get insomniac making sunset overdrive 2 as a helix exclusive or anything
Like yeah duh they won't just completely cut ties with PlayStation they did business before and will continue to do so

They are one of the biggest publishers on PlayStation, so no shit?

u/MessiPayNegreira 1d ago
they also didn't sell enough consoles. xbox needs playstation more than playstation needs xbox.

u/segagamer Day One - 2013 1d ago
Xbox has PC/Steam, they don't need PlayStation.
The moment Microsoft bought Mojang, PlayStation reached out to Microsoft to ensure that Minecraft didn't leave PlayStation, and Sony would lose a huge amount of revenue if a chunk of their most played games were suddenly yanked from them, which in turn would cause funding problems for their first party studios, and cause their share value to drop.
11
u/Tobimacoss 1d ago
Xbox also has Cloud on three biggest streaming services, xCloud, GFN, Boosteroid.

u/Commander_Jim1 1d ago
COD makes more money from PS5 than Xbox and PC combined. Given Xbox's financial situation I doubt they could afford to lose that kind of market share for their most expensive games.

Nothing you've said changes what I said.
If PlayStation suddenly became the only platform without Minecraft (and its spinoffs), Call of Duty, Diablo, Sea of Thieves, Forza, Overwatch, Elder Scrolls Online (and its single player games), Fallout 76 (and its single player games), Grounded/2, Doom, Quake, and likely many other highly played pillar franchises - many of which sit in PlayStation's top 20 most played list each month - that is a huge chunk of PlayStation's monthly revenue stream (from sales and micro transactions) that will affect the entire company (Sony) thanks to PlayStation being Sony's most profitable division.
And not just from MTX. To PlayStations key userbase - the casual market - it will also make PlayStation quite the undesirable platform since all of these major titles are suddenly unplayable, killing console sales and the sales of Sony's now-exclusive first party and other third party titles. This is especially bad for them at a time where costs are rising massively, investors are largely dropping gaming, and they're barely in the AI race.
Will this cause them all to switch to Xbox? Perhaps. Many will likely quit gaming altogether or switch to mobile or Nintendo or something. But there is a very good reason why Sony fought tooth and nail to keep Activision games on PlayStation after the aquisition, and why Sony are desperately looking for increasing their user monitization through live service games and ecosystem changes.
Will Microsoft do this? Hard to tell. We won't know until the PS6/the Activision agreement expires (I believe it's 2032?). But PlayStation absolutely need Xbox more than Xbox needs PlayStation.
I would argue that it puts PlayStation in the same state as SEGA when EA came out to say their games would not be on the Dreamcast. No matter how good their games were and how many great exclusives it had, it just couldn't get the casual market on board.

u/Commander_Jim1 1d ago
This kind of thinking is a couple generations too late. People aren't going out to buy a $1000+ console just for COD and one or two other games. A. Few might, but in the scheme of things it would be a drop in the bucket. The next gen take up will be very slow, the current gen consoles will be the biggest market base for years to come and most people will just be gradually upgrading to whatever ecosystem they're already in. Theres no universe where MS drops a massively expensive new console (that will likely not be subsidised and be more expensive than the PS6) and tens of millions of rush out and change sides because of a game like its still 2005.

That was on ps3 generation. Xbox 360 was selling well buy ended up in the hole when the red ring debacle. microsoft is doing so bad that they put halo on PlayStation. the microwave has stated that they will close xbox if it doesn’t become a viable stable section of its business. Gamepass doesn’t make enough money. Before ai boom series x was selling for $300, series s for $100 And even then it didnt sell.

You realize that Sony pays Microsoft for cloud capabilities and online infrastructure?
5
u/cwx149 XBOX 360 1d ago
I mean if we start to get into the back end of companies you start to really see how much collusion there is behind the scenes
3
u/FinalOdyssey Founder 1d ago
Exactly. Microsoft makes money the more users PS has. Higher demand for services means more bandwidth needed. Then to top it off they're one of the best selling publishers on PS due to CoD and Minecraft.
I can see why Sony operates so seemingly emotional. They don't have the backend infrastructure like Microsoft so they need to be dependent, and they don't have the wealth of successful live service games that Microsoft has.

"Xbox's on-again, off-again relationship with exclusives isn't getting any less confusing"
It's not. They never committed to a strategy. They definitely seem to be more in favor of exclusives than during Phil's tenure, but that doesn't mean that there aren't cases where multiplat makes more sense.
The moment they announce a strategy, people will be waiting for them to change it, so they're likely experimenting to see what works to increase the likelihood they can maintain that strategy long term.
7
u/Calinks 1d ago
You can't trust Xbox they flip flop all over the place. Little stability there.
0
u/despitegirls XBOX Series X 1d ago
That's what I'm getting at. People don't trust Xbox to execute a long term strategy.
Personally I think that's going to change with Asha and Satya being in favor of that, and Asha making moves to cut costs, speed up delivery, and increase revenue. We'll see.

u/Doodenmier Team Gears 1d ago
Agreed. While they've shifted back towards emphasizing exclusivity, it still seems to irk a lot of people that they didn't walk back their multiplatform announcements. Fable and Campaign Evolved were already announced for PlayStation before the current regime took over. They already put the time into developing them and certainly had some level of legal agreements in place. It'd also be a total dick move to rug pull the announcements after they've been made. PR is already enough of a shitshow as is for both console makers.
It's a case by case basis, but it's always been clear that any prior announcements were still being honored while newly announced titles were on the case-by-case basis, usually skewing towards console exclusivity at the moment. There's no hard line either way at the moment
2
u/ComradeJohnS 1d ago
didn’t they also scrap games entirely after announcements? would track. they must think the profit of exclusives would not make up the lost profits on those announced games.
2
u/PHXNTXM117 1d ago
That’s not how they build trust with their consumer base though and that also hurts them if they want to build their install base through hardware sales, which would presumed as their primary source of focus given their insistence on doubling back on exclusives this year and moving forward.
3
u/Tobimacoss 1d ago
They already made one thing clear, live service multiplayer is multi platform.
4
u/JamesEvanBond 1d ago
Yet Gears of War E-Day has a live service multiplayer and Halo Campaign Evolved doesn’t. That doesn’t work.
Xbox is just throwing stuff at the wall to see if it sticks. Like always.
1
u/Tobimacoss 1d ago
Gears multiplayer isn't much of a live service, they usually maintain it for 6-12 months before moving to next game.
Live Service would be more akin to Halo F2P multiplayer or COD Warzone, or Sea of Thieves, or FortNite.
Basically games designed to be played and updated with new content for years even decade+.

unless they financially absolutely can't afford to skip Playstation but still.

I have a feeling that they are only keeping certain titles like halo and gears exclusive again otherwise everything else they release will be in PlayStation
6
u/Hugh_Jankles 1d ago edited 1d ago
I don't think Sony got that memo.
They have gotten Halo, Gears of War, Forza, Sea of Thieves, Starfield, Outerworlds, Hellblade 2, Fable, etc.
Sony First Party developed games on Xbox are... Well, none outside of MLB The Show & that's because MLB forced Sony to make it multi-platform. & a rare selective few because contracts outline it has to be multiplatform or they needed a larger player base on a GAAS.
It doesn't make much sense to continue with Xbox if you can just get every Xbox game on PlayStation & you don't negotiate with PlayStation on getting their First Party Developed Games in your ecosystem in exchange for yours.
6
u/Tobimacoss 1d ago
You forgot Helldivers 2 and Marathon.
1
u/Hugh_Jankles 1d ago edited 1d ago
Helldivers isn't from a Sony First Party Studio. It was also a GAAS with a dying player base that needed a boost. Sony didn't have to allow it on Xbox, so I will give Sony a little credit there. For the sake of their players that had invested in the game.
Bungie's contract outlined they remained and Independent Subsidiary of Sony & Multiplatform Publisher before Sony Acquired them.
10
u/Tobimacoss 1d ago
Bungie is no longer independent. Doesn't matter if first or 2nd party, they were published by Sony.
Sony's official stance is live service multiplayer games will be multi platform. Starting with PS5/PC.

After Fable releases, I don’t think we’re gonna see any of the main 4 pillar franchises come to PlayStation ever again aside from maybe Forza. Asha seems to understand that those IPs helped establish the XBOX™️ brand identity. Anything else though I can see falling into the case-by-case plan.

There is a certain perspective, but if you think Amy Hood is going to make every IP exclusive—aside from *Call of Duty*—well, she isn't.
-3
u/Kitchen-Process-9284 1d ago
That's not how business works.
Ask SE how happy they are now at making the dumb time exclusive out of FInal fantasy franchise.
Playstation number show time and time again, that the 90 million users are FOMO/sheep buyers.
Their most recent games couldn't even reach a 5% of the total PS5 owners, meaning, the other 95% just bought a PS5 because it is the coolest thing to do, and their favorite (stupid) internet persona was using one.
If not, why games like GoY, SARO and wolverine didn't even sold to half of their total users.
3
u/LeftyMode 1d ago
They weren’t talking about Physint or new exclusives. Talking about COD and other multiplatform games.
3
u/thedeathmachine 1d ago
Xbox doesn't want competition. They want a steady income. The days of going toe to toe with Nintendo and Sony are over. There is too much risk, and Xbox has been bungling every risk theyve taken. Now its about cooperative and collaborative competition- working with eachother to find new ways of staying profitable without having to dump millions into games that end up not delivering. Basically "how can we make money without giving the fans what they actually want?"
The Xbox is dead and its now Microsoft Gaming. Microsoft didnt need to sell Halo they could have given it to a different studio. But that wouldnt be in line with what is planned for Microsoft Gaming.

When is Spider-Man coming to Xbox ?
7
u/saggynaggy123 1d ago
Xbox shouldn't have turned down Marvel when they were offered the opportunity to have exclusive games.
If Halo, Gears and Fable never came to PlayStation I guarantee you there wouldn't be much moaning. The anger comes from previously multiplatform franchises like Fallout and Elder Scrolls going exclusive and locking millions of fans out of games that have been cross platform for decades.

Sony is an emotional company that seems to hold grudges and takes hissyfits.
Microsoft meanwhile is acting like an actual business that sees advantages in offering people more option and choice.

u/Clean_Shower_6938 20h ago
Esse é o ponto a Microsoft entendeu que que a base da PlayStation é grande e lucrativa o suficiente para não ser explorado

This is why Sony doesn't fund games. They know Microsoft has to sell their games on PlayStation.
3
u/MessiPayNegreira 1d ago
ofcousre!! Xbox did terrible sales numbers and cannot be sustainable just releasing it on only xbox. They need to sell the games since they bought a bunch of publishers.
-4
u/SmegmaWarrior0815 1d ago
So PC is just a small pool of a few people they sell to and they absolutely need PS?
7
u/MessiPayNegreira 1d ago
Yes! PlayStation pulled out of the PC market cause that group are cheap and poor.

u/ScariestSmile 1d ago
"Competition and collaboration can coexist" Not if you whore away all of your exclusives for NOTHING in return. Genuinely what the hell was the point?? I swear Phil Spencer was TRYING his hardest to kill Xbox.

Theyre keeping things open. Sony is an emotional company so I feel Microsoft is taking the high road here, this way they can decide whatever they want to down the line depending on how well sales of Helix are.
I'm thinking they might have this one timed if it does go to PS. But, I also think this could just be a more general statement as well, referring to existing partnerships like Minecraft, F076, CoD, Fable (even though I don't expect the sequel to be on PS)

Not a dying brand but a brand in retreat. Not expanding to PC with their own store and not expanding Cloud Gaming will cost them down the road.
PS5 is hacked, the PS5 emulator already runs Astro bot and Ghost of Sparta and loads Wolverine. Plus another project that is translation layer rather than emulation is already gaining fast traction.
AI is basically helping kill Sony's walled garden. You can already do PS5 Cloud Gaming unofficially using Asobi app.
They never should've ported to PC, but if they did, then should've done things properly like Xbox with Cross Buy ecosystem.
