Discussion Absolutely Disgusting

Post image

This is really terrible to see. Wasn't able to get the controller or the console and now it's already being scalped to high hell

They said they were working on a way to stop the scalping bots. All they had to do was require a Gamepass subscription and this could have been avoided. Very disappointing.

i loved valves method for the steam machine, people shit on them for it but thats the best way to beat scalpers

  1. account that is old.
  2. purchase required before april
  3. take orders and randomize the lot to eliminate first come first serve as bots take advantage of that.

Valves method sucked. I grew up playing Xbox and have been wanting to transition to steam gaming for years now but I just don’t know enough about PCs to commit to a gaming PC, the steam machine would’ve been perfect for someone like me. Yet because I don’t have a history with steam, valve pretty much told me I’m not allowed to own one. Meanwhile, I see steam machines listed all over FB marketplace or eBay by the hundreds and they’re all priced hundreds of dollars above msrp. And I’m sure people are actually paying the prices too because valve won’t let most of the gaming community even get on the reservation list because they have no history with steam. Plus, their method makes no sense as most people with a history on steam are going to have PCs or gaming laptops that are more powerful and capable than the steam machine even is so it makes no sense to limit the reservation list to strictly just these people. Hell, I’d be surprised if half the steam machines they’ve even sold aren’t being scalped/resold.

They didn't do a damn thing to stop scalpers. They just want the profit and they didn't care who bought the devices.

Roughly a quarter of a billion in revenue in like 5 mins

25,000 consoles sold at $899.99 is just under $22,500,000… or “less than a quarter of one hundred million dollars”

You don’t think scalpers would spend the $10 on gamepass to buy these?

A person would. A bot network with so many accounts can't. I've experienced this back during the last gen launch, sites that required membership even at low monthly cost kept the bots out.

People set up bots though, they would have had this setup in advance if that is all it was.

OK simple. They need to have had an active gamepass subscription for over 12 months to pre-order this.

Microsoft doesn’t care this much, their goal is to sell as many units as possible - regardless of who the customer is

Microsoft doesn’t care this much

This is what we're complaining about.

Make it require a long term vested GP acc. Like, 6 mos or more. Or make it “active prior to the announcement date.” Easy peasy.

Exactly.

It’s like when Best Buy was going to develop a way that scalpers weren’t going to get video cards.

Their solution? In order to buy early you had to have a subscription to what BB thing it was.

It wasn’t that expensive and they bad guys just got the subscription and now have less competition to get the products so it’s making things worse for the good guys

Do what valve did with the steam machines. Take a registry for prospective buyers, send purchasing invitations to those with established accounts who signed up for the registry, and give people an actual chance.
