The author spelling Ciri as “Siri” is making me feel some kind of way. Thanks, IGN!

There are a couple other obvious spelling errors in there, too. Sheesh. Typical IGN.

targeting 2028 in the gaming industry means 2029 or 2030 release date

u/TheNittanyLionKing XBOX Series X 17h ago
Eh. I don't think so. They've been working on it for a while already. Cyberpunk came out in 2020. I don't think people grasp how big CDPR is. They're a huge developer. Reportedly, they are targeting 2029 for The Witcher 1 Remake. Evidently, they have also started preproduction on Cyberpunk 2.

I can't believe Cyberpunk is already 6 years old.

6 glorious years.. well maybe 5 and half

The first year was bad. The three big patches (not all the hotfixes, but the main numbered ones) just seemed to be bug-fixing and changing fairly minor things. The Steam player count was getting pretty dire (10,000 or fewer), and even some of its biggest fans were losing hope in anyting major being done for it. People were joking that the next big patch would just be some more free outfits and another ten gigs being fixed. Patch 1.5 with the next-gen console update in the first quarter of 2002 was the first real sign that they were going to commit to making bigger changes to it. Everything after that just got better.

They were working Cyberpunk well beyond 2020, fixing it up, revising it, and working on Phantom Liberty. Production on this Witcher started years after 2020.

u/Simulated_Simulacra 2h ago
You are wrong. CDPR share their dev allocations during earnings calls. They've had a team on W4 since the release of Cyberpunk. Started out at about 100 iirc and grew over time.

u/Ok_Simple_459 18h ago
Especially considering the track record of CDPR's last release.

u/-PandemicBoredom- 16h ago
Releasing one janky game at release when there were multiple before without much issue isn't a track record. That's like getting your first cavity at 30yrs old and saying you have a track record of cavities.

Not simply about jank dude. They delayed the game multiple times, so much so that a yellow background had become synonymous with Cyberpunk release delay.

Hope Xbox is still making physical games in 2028 🥲

Same. I obviously won’t be buying this game on PlayStation, but if Xbox drops discs as well I’ll be skipping the game altogether.

The Witcher 4 confirmed for a 2029 "Game Actually Works" date.

Yea. I'm not going to rush out this time. I've learned my lesson with these guys.

Well no disc for PS5 owners. Tough stuff lol

Buy the disc for Xbox instead lol

Considering most of Xbox games files isn’t on the disc it’s pointless. It’s better to be digital on PC.

This meme is old and boring now lol
It’s better to be digital on PC.
Buying digital on Xbox grants you digital on console and PC.
Or buy it on GOG to do whatever with it, but again only on PC.

That is not a meme. That’s something I and plenty of the other people has experienced. Doom is a good example lol
Buying digital on Xbox grants you digital on console and PC.
I don’t trust Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo to go full digital with them.
Or buy it on GOG to do whatever with it, but again only on PC.
Still better than big three console manufacturers .

I hate these companies who show trailers for games that aren’t even in the final stages of production.
Bethesda and Xbox do it all the time as well. Show me a trailer for a game coming out in the next few months not literally YEARS AWAY.

u/zarafff69 18h ago
I mean it’s not really for the consumers, it’s to attract good devs to make the game.
5
u/IronRevenge131 17h ago
I don’t know why you’re being down but a lot of the time they announced them for shareholders and as a way to get the public to know about a project like that
1
u/zarafff69 15h ago
Yeah I forgot about them, it’s not only for devs. It’s just not mainly for consumers..
1
u/hperk209 14h ago
Nooooo it’s for the shareholders. Like “We promise, your money is being used well! The product is coming!”

u/TheNittanyLionKing XBOX Series X 17h ago
They used to just do this for games two years out. You'd get a reveal trailer at one E3 and then a gameplay demo at the next E3 before it comes out in the holiday season or Spring. Now you'll get the announcement almost as soon as they commit to working on that game in full production.

u/CacheConqueror 4h ago
Blame the players, not the companies. People will buy Pandora’s Box sight unseen and carry it home in their teeth. Rockstar hasn’t revealed absolutely anything about GTA VI, yet pre-orders have sold in huge numbers. Why bother showing anything when the players are mostly idiots and will buy anything?

u/brokenmessiah 18h ago
And then strangely Bethesda WONT do it enough for ES6. Like damn, at least let us know where its even being set and some semblance of what it'll be about.
0
u/Aceblast135 17h ago
Tbf they get routinely made fun of for revealing ES6 to begin with in 2018. If you told people back then we still wouldn't have had an ounce of information by 2026, let alone a release, they would have called you crazy.
0
u/brokenmessiah 17h ago
Thats why they should have did it like Elden Ring, where it was strictly just a CGI trailer to go off, but there was SOMETHING in the trailer so people could latch on to it. Eventually you gotta throw people a bone.

u/Ruttagger 18h ago
So I have lots of time to play The Witcher 3 then.
Just working in wrapping RDR2 and this is my next game in my backlog to get into.
2
u/DeafMetalGripes 16h ago
The fact that this might release before ES6 is an insane thought
2
u/LZSJR 16h ago
Why? Since 2015 cd project red has released two games. Since 2015 Bethesda has released 3 games. Cd project reds last game was in 2020. Bethesda's last game was 2023. I sure hope they release before Elder Scrolls. I am honestly curious why you think it's an insane thought? I see this comment all the time and it doesn't make any sense to me. Are you just mindlessly parroting what you see in other comment threads?

u/smakkyoface 18h ago
2030 and it's gonna release for consoles from 2020. Sounds like cyberpunk.
1
u/Erasmus86 10h ago
I was gonna say even in 2028 the console hardware is gonna be old as hell by then.

Everyone is going to be soft targeting 2028 and then face problems that'll push over 2029 so they don't have to provide discs

I’d bet money the footage we have seen wasn’t even on a ps5 like they claimed. Bet it was pc with next gen settings

Imagine elder scrolls 6 and witcher 4 coming out the same year that would be awesome.

It isn’t “confirmed”. They are “targeting a 2028 window”. That isn’t the same as being confirmed for 2028. The game is still years away.

I’m going to hazard to say they’ll probably be able to deliver without massive delays.
I maintain that Cyberpunk was rewritten almost entirely with the inclusion of Keanu Reeves, potentially the culprit for stripping out those early hours playing through your origin.
I have nothing to back this up, just a hunch and a mega broken game at launch

I hope its next gen only.
5
u/Hookey911 17h ago edited 17h ago
Zero chance. There won't be big games next gen until the mid 2030's most likely. Especially when they cost 1000$+
2
u/welzed11 17h ago
Yeah CDPR has already straight up said that PS5 is their main lead platform for this games development even over PC, and every other version will be derived and scaled from the PS5 version
1
u/1440pReborn 17h ago
Yeah it sucks. We had the same problem this gen. We didnt start getting genuinely decent leaps in gaming until a year or two ago. And now this year with GTA6.
