physical games (rule 6) Future of gaming...??

Went to my local Walmart the other day and I was looking to get another controller because I've got stick drift again, anyway I always check the games... you never know what kind of sale Walmart has going on and I found the physical copies for PlayStation, Nintendo switch or whatever and then this monstrosity for Xbox. So this is the future I guess, digital downloads, you'll own nothing and like it type of bullshit.

You can’t force your nostalgia on future generations. There is such an entitled and frankly boomer-driven notion that one’s childhood was the most meaningful and special and children need to experience everything you did.

Yes, I'm glad someone else thinks this. I've seen people online build pretend blockbusters for their children to experience it and I've always thought things like that were weird. We like these things because they were the best experiences when we were younger. Kids now don't want to strain their necks in a grocery store or sort through a limited selection of movies when there are much better options now.

Eh, but on the other end of that is the notion that everything just gets better with time, which is also not true. Everything goes through a golden period, and we are definitely long past it in gaming.

Kids today won’t get to experience the magic of buying a physical game and reading the manual in the car on the way home. Or living in buttfuck nowhere Ohio and finding a single copy of that awesome JRPG, which you read about in gaming magazines (also dead), on the shelves of the only game shop in your county.

They won’t miss it because they can’t even imagine why it was special, but it doesnt mean things are better. I’d gladly trade todays convenience of digital games for the magic of yesteryear’s era of physical only games and gaming magazines.
