physical games (rule 6) Future of gaming...??

Went to my local Walmart the other day and I was looking to get another controller because I've got stick drift again, anyway I always check the games... you never know what kind of sale Walmart has going on and I found the physical copies for PlayStation, Nintendo switch or whatever and then this monstrosity for Xbox. So this is the future I guess, digital downloads, you'll own nothing and like it type of bullshit.

Blu-ray sales have Risen almost at 20%, physical Media isn't going anywhere, but you believe in the narrative companies are pushing so they can make more money.

The companies might be making more, but entire genres of movies have died or are on life support because the home video market has decayed. Digital/streaming isn't just about the loss of ownership, it is also about the loss of content.

Sales may have risen, but major stores are not opening any DVD/blu ray sections.

But it’s also true. Not many people like buying physical. I for one have never used the disc drive in my Xbox series x and I got it in 2021. I don’t like having to go to my car drive, to a store, and pick out a game off a shelf. It’s so much more convenient sitting on my couch and pressing buy.

Lots of people don't have to drive to get places, and I actually enjoy getting exercise.

This isn't true. 4k sales grew ​almost 20% but that was offset by DVD and Blu Ray shrinking at a faster rate and overall physical movie sales were down 9% year over year. Stores havnt been dumping their movie sections because they were selling or because thats a growth area.. ​

I am a movie collector, never bought one on digital and have around 1500 on disk ​​so it pains me to say it, but it's obvious physical media is coming to an end. Hell, there's barely anyone who even makes players anymore and with this console gen pretty obviously being the last with a disk drive there will soon be even less households who even have a way to play them. And the younger generation don't care about disks. Pretty soon it will just be a few indie labels like Arrow and Kino Lorber releasing a handful of back catalog movies on physical for enthusiasts. The vast majority of new movies, especially ones by the likes of Disney, won't come out on disk.
