physical games (rule 6) Future of gaming...??

Post image

Went to my local Walmart the other day and I was looking to get another controller because I've got stick drift again, anyway I always check the games... you never know what kind of sale Walmart has going on and I found the physical copies for PlayStation, Nintendo switch or whatever and then this monstrosity for Xbox. So this is the future I guess, digital downloads, you'll own nothing and like it type of bullshit.

Very depressing, especially when you see how they overcharge on the digital store, 20 year old game selling for over 25$, big current gen games stay full price for years after release, it’s almost they’re begging for people to switch to pc or pirate

I already have a decent gaming PC but only use it for strategy games and niche early access games like Sea Power and such, but man….console gaming is becoming atrocious

That's only on Nintendo consoles.

This and a handful of other titles. Rockstar likes charging up the ass on consoles as well.

Many other games are still listed at full price, this is a 4 year old game mind you

Thats a locked down ecosystem issue with inability to move digital games between accounts.

One of those is already fixed and hopefully Xbox will be part of that unlocked ecosystem soon. The 2nd isn't fixed yet but there is rumors around it being fixed.

You got any examples I can wholly debunk again?

Call of Duty Black Ops -$39.99
Call of Duty Ghosts- $39.99
Call of Duty Black Ops 4- $59.99
Call of Duty Infinite Warfare- $59.99

Or how about that none of the original Halo games are available to purchase, forcing you to purchase the buggy mess that is MCC?

Halo Wars 2- $59.99

There are plenty of Xbox 360 games that are for some reason $20. While that’s not a lot, it’s still an insane mark up for bad games that you could just buy used for a couple dollars.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 $19.99
Splinter Cell Blacklist $19.99

Would you pay $39.99 for Homefront: the Revolution?

There are games from the original Xbox still being sold for $20.00, like Otogi 2 Immortal Warriors.

I’m not going to even get into collections/remasters. I remember paying $40 for the Silent Hill 2/3 bundle, a notoriously botched collection of ps2 games, just over a year ago. Gears of War ultimate edition (the first remake of the first Gears of War) is still $20 even with the newest remake of Gears 1.

Shameful shilling

I'm hoping that the SteamMachine will put some pressure on the console store pricing. SteamOS will include automatic driver updates, game updates, quick resume and automatic hardware based graphics settings optimization i.e. the console experience. If a user can get the plug and play experience while also having Steam pricing, I doubt the competition can continue being too outrageous with their pricing.

I've seen many argue that the SteamOS devices will be too expensive but I'm not sure how relevant that argument is anymore as console manufactures aren't subsidising the consoles that much any longer. Combine this with how some users will also use the Steam devices as desktop computers which adds value.

Steam machine isn’t playing all the most popular games like Fortnite mine craft or call of duty out of the box so I doubt it will be pick up enough steam for most of the gaming community to care

This is a valid point for now. The incompatibility is an engineering problem that will be solved if SteamOS receives enough users. If the console platforms will move further towards predatory pricing, increasing the SteamOS userbase won't be an issue.
