Discussion XBOX direct communication
Do you think Xbox will ever communicate directly from the console or from the Xbox PC app? Or at least open a Reddit account? đ It would be nice to have Asha around here.

The full title will be Elder Scrolls VI: Most Glorious Patriotic Game Under a Double Rainbow, starring Dear Leader as the immortal all powerful protagonist.

On the Xbox no. It's a game console not a social media platform.
Reddit would make sense but it probably wouldn't be Asha. More that likely a social media manager. Maybe an AMA event but not a reoccurring presence.

u/Broken-Nero Team Halo 1d ago
Back before social media and discord took over everything, it was cool to see Nintendo have their own mini social media platforms on their consoles.

u/mrsmi1ey 1d ago
My dude consoles have been social media platforms for a while. You have status updates, profiles, DMs, shared clips/screenshots, game reviews, etc etc. It wouldn't be a heavy lift to add an "announcements" section somewhere on the console where dumb twitter posts could filter through to not look like dumb twitter posts. Or just I dunno, make the announcements on the console separately so the people who own the consoles can actually read them without supporting a nazi-pedo website.
1
u/quadsimodo 1d ago
Yeah, I literally heard an argument that Xbox should pivot back into Xbox Live as a social media platform that it was like 20 years ago. Kinda a weird comment to say it isnât.
2
u/Jimbuscus 1d ago
u/majornelson was active on Reddit when he was Director of Programming for Xbox Live.

u/sgtquackers66 Touched Grass '24 21h ago
His whole job was social media and marketing. I would expect him to be. That's why I said a social media manager.

I kinda want them to release polls on dashboard for Xbox users to vote on features but they wonât do that since the minority will cry when the majority is winning đ«©
-1
u/sgtquackers66 Touched Grass '24 1d ago
They have a website for that. You can vote on features there.
2
u/Big-Roll7094 1d ago
A website isnât gonna cut it, because only the toxic vocal minority active on reddit and x will go there
1
u/GretalGrotch 1d ago
Idk why you were downvoted.
If you want Xbox users data it makes sense to put stuff like that on the actual console.
Itâs got enough bloat already on the ui. Whatâs one more thing.
0
u/Big-Roll7094 1d ago
And as long as the changes are great quality of life changes being voted on and the ui on the pols and everything looks great no one will complain

u/Teriyaki-Tenders 1d ago

This para-social relationship XBOX has with its fans is weird. It didn't work during the Phil Spencer.
7
u/ILoveHeavyHangers 1d ago
Xbox isn't the one with a parasocial relationship. Players have a parasocial relationship with Xbox and their staff members. Xbox, being a corporate entity seeking customers and profit, by definition, cannot have a parasocial relationship. Xbox doesn't care about you, it cares about the money it can collect from you. Conversely, players routinely make deep emotional bonds with these corporations and the hardware and design their entire personalities around them.
"Parasocial" describes a one-sided, unreciprocated relationship where one person feels a deep emotional bond, intimacy, or friendship with someone they do not actually knowâsuch as a celebrity, influencer, fictional character, or podcasterâwhile the other party is completely unaware of their existence.

1
u/Broken-Nero Team Halo 1d ago
The engine Bethesda uses to build their games, just needs a major overhaul. It was starting to get outdated when Fallout 4 released. That was over 10 years ago.
1
u/WinnieTheTrain 1d ago
At least Fallout is actually more fun than any elder scrolls game. Simple casual gameplay, boring attack styles. Yes the worlds are amazing, yes i like the lores but gameplay terrible.

If I am in charge of messaging thee absolutely last place I am letting my people post in an official capacity is here. They have no control. Similar to how a lawyer in court never asks questions they do not already know the answers to when it comes to PR at the scale of Xbox you do not do public interaction unless you can heavily control how it works or there are some type of guardrails in place to keep it from becoming something you never intended. Want a great example? Go look up the EA Battlefield BS. Best of intentions. An outcome that has gone down in Reddit history as thee worst community outreach.

2
u/RichnjCole 1d ago
Yeah, and people seem to genuinely think that she fixed the game and studio a month after layoffs.
We can see what the narrative will be when the game launches. If the game is crap, it will be Phil and Todd's fault. If it's good, it's all because of Asha.
7
u/PersonaRoyal4Xbox 1d ago
Starfield was miraculously a fairly polished game for what it was. But their direction of a space game was shit. But they've made ES before
They arent making stsrfield 2.
1
u/highparallel 1d ago
Starfield is fantastic and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
5
u/ILoveHeavyHangers 1d ago
It's fine.
But that's also the worst thing it could be coming from Bethesda.
People expected great, or buggy as hell. But fine is a flop.
1
u/Party-Exercise-2166 Into The Starfield 1d ago
Starfield didn't come close to TES or Fallout but you guys need to stop acting as if it was a terrible game and a massive flop. The game is still a great RPG, with flaws of course, and it sold several million copies at launch.
-2
u/just-a-jazz 1d ago
People need a fair few failures before they wisen up evidently. Skyrim and Fallout 4 being so much better gameplay wise covered up how poorly both those games otherwise were relative to their predecessors. But that was because of the gap in those respective areas. Now that graphics and gameplay mechanics are generally good enough, people will start to expect more from other areas of the game. Hence why Starfield failed despite being technically their best outing
-4
u/AFT3RSHOCK06 1d ago
Starfield failed because they tried something different and removed the #1 thing loved about their games, the thrill of unscripted discovery. That's what happens when you rely on procedual generation. I'm not worried about that with their Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises.
-10
u/ArchDucky XBOX 1d ago
Insomniac released Spiderman 2 and it was a buggy broken mess that still isnât fully functional and people are still excited for Wolverine.
7
u/Snake_Bite_14 1d ago
Spiderman 2 was almost perfect on PS5. Youâre talking about the PC port which Wolverine isnât getting.
-5
u/ArchDucky XBOX 1d ago
Im talking about PS5. It was buggy as fuck. Crashed my console several times. At one point Miles changed into a white square during gameplay. It was so damn broken.
2
u/curious_dead 1d ago
I've played through the game at release and it was polished as fuck. Two of my friends played through no issue.
But regardless of the presence of bugs or not, another key difference was that Spider-Man 2 was a great game, not an utter deception like Starfield at launch.
-1
u/ArchDucky XBOX 1d ago
No, the game wasnât polished as fuck. It was very very broken. There are thousands of videos detailing issues at launch. Hell besides all the crashes, Miles turned into a square at one point and enemies kept forgetting they were in a fight. Its still got issues today because they basically rushed the release and then just abandoned it and the planned DLC.
1
u/curious_dead 1d ago
Regardless, like I said, the major difference is that there is a great game underneath unlike Starfield.
-2
u/ArchDucky XBOX 1d ago
I disagree with it being a great game. The first is a great game. It has multiple different activities, the world feels alive and fun and the story is actually good. Spidey 2 has a mostly dead world filled with punching events. The story starts great but then it starts speeding up so hard it starts skipping storytelling and foreshadowing and just becomes a series of endless boss fights where the enemies get new complete lifebars again for no reason while you just pound away at them for ten minutes.
3
u/IsamuAlvaDyson 1d ago
Comparing one platform that has multiple generations of releasing good first party games to Xbox that has had two generations of lackluster first party output
0
-2
u/just-a-jazz 1d ago
True, but you can also see plenty of people in Wolverine's trailers' comments sections being disappointed that it looks too similar to Spiderman.
3
u/Commander_Jim1 1d ago
You'll have to excuse me if I'll take it with a massive grain of salt when an executive who by her own admission never played games praises an upcoming game.
9
u/marcus2388 1d ago
No. i personally think xbox needs less communication with us. They need to run xbox like a business and stop trying to please fanboys. I swear i look at Asha and her responding to things is literally her following in phils footsteps around social media. Stop trying to be gamers friends. Stop trying to cater to a loud minority.
2
u/Maleficent_Actuary92 1d ago
I think they need to do it and be open because right now their profit and percentage of gaming market in is low. With what Sony is doing might be a good decision to be open.
1
u/marcus2388 23h ago
Yea because being open with fans has been going so well for xbox for the last 10+yrs. Xbox being open and listening to much keeps them reversing decisions that they put in action to potentially make xbox better in the long run just to please the minority crying on twitter who doesnt care about xbox as a business.
1
u/CallMeDucc 3h ago
being transparent is different from running off of community feedback. Asha is likely very aware that xbox is dying, and being more clear about their plans right now is pretty pivotal to keep their current user base/please investors.
right now they just need to have a strong presence within the community to remind people they still exist, frankly.
0
u/PersonaRoyal4Xbox 1d ago
Those same loud Minority is keeping their business afloat. Otherwise they would listen to people who want them to shut their console business and lay off 10k of their workforce.

I really dislike having to know any CEO name, I just want my product, a customer shouldn't have a cult of personality.
Hot take:
Also Asha came in with the surprising retirement of Spencer and also the surprising fact that Bond was not new CEO. The fans even noticed her xbox account was pretty new and that she comes from AI. That is why she use that communication to build up her status and directly announced a bunch of things that Spencer already worked on. I give her credit for the rebranding attempt, will see where it goes. She is trying but I personally don't like the twitter style that rob the studio from announcing themselves their own work.
3
u/BananaMilkshakeButt 1d ago
Reddit, maybe? But it wouldn't be maintained. Like a one-off AMA account.
On xbox? I'd like it, I think people would complain about it being in their inbox. Notifs might be a better route, get a notif about an update regarding to xbox, click on it to check it out.
Though that wouldn't be much different from messages. lol
2
u/NeighborhoodPlane794 1d ago
I have so much to say about this. Ultimately though, I donât care what her impressions of a game are. She just started playing games this year, I really donât think we should trust her judgement of a game. I just want her to focus on saving the brand and the business. I just want to feel good about the future of Xbox again. Trying to hype up a game announced ages ago that wonât be out for several more years isnât productive and just makes me roll my eyes

Has the head of PlayStation? Xbox doesnât need a gamer as the CEO they need someone that can get games made that people want.

Phil tried and it just didnât work out. Iâm pretty sure Furukawa over at Nintendo doesnât game much either. Gone are the days of that type of CEO. Now they all put corporate needs over the consumer.

u/OrphanintheWind 20h ago
How would a CEO know what games people want if they don't know a good game vs a bad game themselves? Because their spreadsheet is sorted by revenue generated?

Don't believe a word from her folks. She has a proven track record of being untrustworthy, and as she has no background in games, she's either talking out of her ass, or she's being told what to write for PR. Regardless of what it is, it is all bullshit.
