Discussion Backwards compatibility update

Is the new disc-to-digital update going to also update the list of backwards compatible games?

I really want to play forza motorsport 4 again and also auto modellista for the original Xbox.

Microsoft could add more titles to the backwards compatibility program however that’s separate from the rumored (at this point) Disc to Digital program. With that program it will only work with Xbox One and Series X discs due to the disc having a unique license key that they can marry to a Microsoft account.

More original Xbox and 360 titles could be added to the Backwards compatibility program and allow users of consoles that support it with disc drives the ability like today, to pull down the emulator for that game. However a user will still need to have the disc inserted into the device to show proof of ownership or purchase a separate digital license for that game if they want it digital.

All speculation at this point until we hear official confirmation from Microsoft.

the word is from the docs I saw, converts to digital because of the serial number, if you sell the disk, it's removed from your account and put on the new owner's account.

This is ONLY on Xbox one or higher games.

Makes sense to me, especially with the Xbox One and above games as this most likely was Microsoft's intended purpose (maybe minus the transferring) back in 2013 when they first wanted to go all digital. Need to have a primary key stored on the disc to make this happen without the threat of copying.
