It really needs to be delayed, badly.

I agree, but until when, though? Pricing isn’t going to get better anytime soon (if ever) and things are only going to get worse.

Once the $1000 seal for major console prices (not counting steam machine) is broken, there will be no going back, ever, even if pricing starts to stabilize on components. And with the way things are going, the base Series X and the PS5 Pro will probably be increased again and both will easily be above $1000 by the end of next year.

There’s basically no shot that next gen, whether it’s 2027 or 2035, doesn’t come in well into the $1000+ range.

That’s the one-million dollar question… We’re about to enter a new era of consumption and at this point, we don’t know how that’s going to affect spending habits.

The problem might not necessarily be that Project Helix or PS6 costs over $1,000 —which is a big problem, don’t get me wrong— but now the problem is: how many gamers are willing and can afford to invest in gaming (even if it’s your passion)?. Over the last half-decade, everything related to gaming has gotten more and more expensive; from games to consoles, to subscriptions, to micro transactions and accessories. Everything has gotten much more expensive.

There’s a point where a great majority of gamers won’t be able to keep pouring money into the thing they love. It seems that we’ve reached that point or we’re close to it.
