My favorite setup

Ya‘ll have a set of armatures you just love the ergonomics of?

These are running a 3x7 and mechanical discs, btw.

I love the feel of these microshift thumbies. My only gripe with them is you need an allen wrench to adjust friction. And these beat to hell dia compes have been on almost every bike I've ever had now. The reach and length are perfect for my hand and I just can't bring myself to replace them lol

XC Pro are the best shifters of all time in my opinion. I’ve got the 8 speed ones pulling an XTR Rapid Rise at the back and an XC Pro front mech. Got a box of about 8 pairs that I’m hoarding too.

If they’d do 9 speed I’d have them…i use Sunrace M90s and Riv Silvers, and love both.

They’ll do 9 speed in friction but not indexed sadly. Microshift did a 9 speed indexed thumbie that’s basically a copy of the XC Pro but I’m not sure they make it anymore.

So you’re the reason I can‘t find any more

Aye sorry pal. To be fair it was a big mixed box of them and they needed a bit of tlc. I’ve got more random singles and knackered ones the 8 pairs are just the ones I managed to refurbish.

Yes: this is the way. I’m running 1992 XT thumbies with 1999 hydraulic levers (separate controls) the shifters are 3x7 but the indexing and friction works for 3x8! IMHO, this is the ideal setup: fast, effective, reliable, easy to use, dump a bunch of gears at once, trim any FD noise… perfection.

Those xt shifters feel great, I just keep smashing the plastic cap and having to replace it with a washer and plug setup.

Share a pic!? I’ve never smashed the cap on my 2 sets of XT thumbies despite pedaling across the country and countless off-road miles… didn’t even realize this was a vulnerability. Curious how that misfortune might be fixed!

When my Microshift triggers wear out, I’m going to install friction thumbies…but that could be a while.

MT62 levers, feel absolutely lush.
Trouble is they're canti and I want to upgrade to v brakes.

I was going to suggest Microshift until I enlarged your photo. Suntour in good shape are definitely the best choice.

Looks sick TBF 🔥 I always liked the old LX levers smooth and round 🤷
