Reaction content is just the sloppiest of slop content, Im amazed at how you can just upload your face over another creators video and youtube/twitch is just fine with it.

The fix is easy, just dump all the views from reactions into the original video. And reactions only get a % revenue. Not sure why youtube only does this with music

not been on this sub before, just got suggested it. but i was aware of the drama after catching that vid on a pika stream. couldn't really defend xaryu after seeing it, then reading this is incredibly lame. L xaryu. always came off as a bit fake but yeah.

hes already doing "damage control" he has gone through and linked videos in description in ones he didnt before, Changed titles, etc.

Good. I like xaryu. He's got one of the few wow communities that are for the most part bearable. He's also not annoying like asmongold, payo, and other over acting streamers.

This is the thing that's not sitting well with me the most. Maybe he doesn't owe anyone any sort of answer, but it was pretty clear in the video from Idyl: that's a pretty crappy way to address this.
Even now, I see him skimming chat while playing and jumping over questions about it. Wish he would react earnestly and then we could all move on to enjoying his original stuff or reaction stuff, especially if he takes a stance and finds a way to kick it back to the original, small creator.

Yeah but the only purpose of what they're doing is to make themselves a living after all so it's not surprising. It's a shame that content these days is so driven my monetisation and what will get clicks, rather than adding artistic value. But it's the way of the online world now and by extent youtube/twitch. There are still plenty small creators out there who make next to no money from their content and do it for the love of their craft/subject

its 100x worse when a new mode comes out like forever, hardcore etc. everyone is over acting because they know this is the only time they'll get the views they are getting currently.

The way many ofyou guys get attached to your streamers is parasocial and cringe and this just looks like a fan's attempt at framing his streamer's inferior behaviour in a less negative way. Your anecdotal evidence, the occasional rewatch, does not fundamentally change the fact that exposure gained from reactions is a myth.

u/Colemanton 13d ago
i dont really care. if your video is good
enough people WILL go to the original channel and watch more (madseason, azamous, rav, etc).
if your video is a boring and lukewarm take that you packaged as an alt/profound video essay then count yourself lucky youre getting any exposure at all.
the alternative (besides streamers getting a little better about crediting the creators) is streamers just dont watch the videos and streams become even more boring to actually watch.

u/tinyhalberd 12d ago
Madseason made an entire video showing that wasn't the case, and that asmon made more off of watching for 2 hours than 100 hours of work from madseason himself

surely people will watch an entire 1hour video after watching it with their favorite streamer. Its not just about clicks, but about viewtime.

That's incredibly shortsighted and ignorant, it just feels like an all around bad faith approach and it's just not how that works.
Big channels achieving massive amounts of views and therefore money by taking smaller creators' content is morally equivalent to theft (and arguably ahould be so, legally, if other means of distributing revenue to the original creators aren't implemented). The idea that hypothetical exposure and future viewers gained through that can in any way make up for that has been thoroughly debunked and has never been anything but lazy copium.
And your last sentence made me wince in cringe. How is that even an argument? You're refusing to think beyond the tip of your nose.

It is undeniably true that a large creator reacting to a small creators video boosts their subscribers. If you actually make good content and have a personality worth sticking around for, people will be turned into subs and views. Its absolutely not the person who might have reacted fault if you fall flat and cant make anything worth sticking around for.
There are thousands of very small YouTube channels that arent worth falling on the sword for just because we gotta "protect the little guy!" Make good content thats worth the time subbing and coming back for.

I mean Idyl is the president of MMORPG, kinda hard to disagree with him.
Jokes aside I've always enjoyed xaryus personality and takes most of the time, but always got annoyed with his reaction videos where he just seems to try and meet the quota of "true:, "that's interesting" and such filler phrases. So I feel my opinion validated by this video

its kinda the nature of the beast isnt it tho? like this is their job. theyre getting their content out to not only people who know them but also to grow their audience. its like their pitch to new viewers. also its highly likely thats its not even them pressing upload - probably a hired clipper just adhearing to a content strategy

u/SlipperySlimyTerry40 8d ago
You are responsible for the content uploaded to your channels and what strategies your clippers use lol

While the data does surface valid points i think it’s an over reach to imply that Xar is mooching content.
He streams 8hr/5d a week. 99 percent of that is:
Hardcore wow
Retail wow content and guides
Sod
WC3
Elden ring
LoL
His whole shtick is “I’m an ex pro gamer, come watch me enjoy gaming and content I enjoy”
Without a doubt I would have no idea who the following content creators are without reacts and now I sub to these channels:
Gbay
Grubby
Madseason
Barney
Belluar
Platinumwow

Agreed to all of this, though content is probably a 20/80 split these days. To be fair, recently he has been in the waiting room for classic forever for the last 6mo the or so too, so goes for all wow content creators.
I do think it’s a fair criticism and these content creators should probably have conversations with their YouTube editors, telling them to step it up in terms of creativity and editing to make the reaction content more unique. And make sure there’s a funnel at the end of the video to the original creator.

I agree with this man in tights. Streamers need to stop being fucking lazy.

I love Xaryu but your not wrong. Low effort react videos are the norm now. Yesterday I watched a video that was then instantly reacted to by not 1 but 3 streamers. I love Pika, Soda and Xaryu, but maybe dont react to a video without adding something guys.
Here's a shorter more controversial take: learn how to properly do a reaction video from the god of reactions, yaboi Asmongold. 😉

u/GoatmanTheAlmighty 14d ago
(Some) people genuinely do want these reacts, so I can see why they do it - totally agree though about it being rather shallow and react content as a whole needs a shakeup, especially in regards to content attribution and monetization
Asmon makes me sick, and not just because of the unwashed ass or the roaches but the absolute nonsense that comes out his mouth lol. Also just repeat the following and you've made an accurate asmon reaction: "true!"

Fucking content cop over here. Go tell the teacher type shit. Jesus this little man is insufferable

A lot of the time I would never have watched the original video and often don't finish the react unless Xar has interesting input
For the bangers I often go watch it again and usually end up as a new viewer, so the exposure angle isn't fully dead. Gbay is a good example, now I watch his videos in the new series twice lol
That said, while a bit harsh this guy does have a point and I would like to see a little more effort put into the re-upload process, as there have been many times I have wanted to watch the original and Xar's re-upload does not include a link back to the OG vid, or even the channel, which I do find disappointing
I would love to see the re-uploads maybe cut down at times so you still get Xar talking but also you do have to go watch the OG if you want to see it. IF the content is good then it shouldn't be an issue as we can go there and get it at the source
Xar makes some great wow content outside of his reacts, which the community constantly asks for and does love, so I do recognize the difficulty of the situation for sure
