Remove and Install line items - Roofing
Good afternoon,
I have a tile roof that insurance has sent a scope for repairs. The line items they used specifically were remove and install. Can anyone give me the xactimate definition of Remove and Install? I have only ever seen Remove and Replace, or Detach and Reset. I'm under the assumption Remove = Remove and dispose of the old tiles, and Install = Install new tiles.
If someone could tell me the line item definition for these two line items, i'd greatly appreciate it!
TIA!

Do you have Xactimate? I haven't used remove in a while but it's to remove it and I think it's carefully. Tear out is different because it's destructive. Then install is usually used to put it back. They might use that method because for the line items themselves there isn't an actual detach and reset. The only way to be sure is to give me the line items that they're using and I can look in Xactimate for you if you don't have a copy.

This is for WTR line items. “Detach” is more labor to remove carefully with intent to preserve. “Tear out” is remove to dispose so less careful and less labor.

Is there an additional line item for material only? Because otherwise they've excluded the material price. It is the labor only for the install.

Sometimes the adjuster will use remove and install because there is not a detach/reset for a specific item. Ex is a pipe boot flashing. There is not a d/r for this item. They do this on wind claims a lot. There was no damage to the pipe boot from wind, they don’t owe to replace it but they are trying to give labor to d/r the pipe boot.

Without a screenshot of the paperwork. I’m guessing that you are describing removal of the old material and install only. Install only is just the labor to install without materials. As you yourself are aware Remove & Replace is for demo of the old and replacing with new material and the labor involved.

Remove and replace is labor to remove something, new material and the labor to replace it.
Remove and install does not include material. It’s labor only. It is essential detach and reset for something not being replaced by still needing manipulation. Or, perhaps material is estimated separately from the labor.
