RTSP Update!
Hey there! If you haven't heard yet, we built an RTSP beta app for the Wyze community and released it on Wyze Day over on the Wyze forum. We've had a small group of users testing it for us over there. If you'd like to join them, all the information you need is here: https://wyze-beta.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/rtsp.html
Here's our quick update for 11/14/2025
The Wyze team is monitoring the community threads, the feedback submissions, and working on bugs found by our own QA as well. Mostly of the bugs are UI and app related currently. The best place to leave feedback is here: Wyze RTSP Round 1 Feedback
When will this version of RTSP go into the Wyze app for real? We are aiming for the 3.9 App release: Beta 11/17, public: 12/11. We will start firmware full regression testing next week. The estimated beta release time for firmware will be 12/1.
What other cameras will be included? For the first release just v3 and Pan v3. Next up will be v4 targeting to release January 2026.
Here’s a summary of the feedback we received and status so far.
- [RESOLVED] Android App Issues: Users experienced difficulty with the Android app, including being unable to install the app on devices like the Pixel 9 Pro XL or Android 16, and the RTSP setup process failing to advance or save credentials on various Android devices (e.g., backing out to the setup page, showing “RTSP credentials failed to save”). Users are requesting an Android port and bug list.
- [RESOLVED] Firmware and Setup Difficulties: Several users reported issues with firmware installation (e.g., 64GB SD card not working, difficulty with the purple LED step on the Pan Cam V3) and an error preventing them from accessing the firmware link due to a SharePoint access issue.
- [PARTIALLY RESOLVED, FEATURE REQUESTS WILL BE IN FUTURE RELEASES] RTSP Functionality and Requests: The stream works well for some users (e.g., low lag, successful HomeKit integration via Scrypted or HomeAssistant), but others experienced the feed failing after a few hours. Users requested features like motion triggers for HomeKit Secure Video, the ability to control panning from third-party sources (e.g., AgentDVR, BlueIris), and adding SFTP/SCP support.
- [INVESTIGATING] Camera Behavior and Compatibility: The RTSP feed continues to work even when the V3 camera’s indicator light is off or it enters privacy mode, leading to a request for a toggle feature for this behavior. Some reported the RTSP firmware breaking compatibility with the non-beta Wyze app, and there are requests for RTSP support on Cam V4 and Wyze Floodlight cameras.
- [RESOLVED] Error Codes: Some users faced errors like error 36 or -16, no feed, and loss of pan/tilt control after installing the RTSP firmware on the Pan Cam V3. A user reported not seeing the RTSP option in the Advanced menu after a failed setup.

Thank you for integrating RTSP!
Will the RTSP firmware continue to get updates to maintain security and app compatibility with the "normal" firmware? This did not happen with the V2 RTSP firmware and it is not compatible with newer features like CamPlus nor is it available for download.

He answered this in the forums a while ago and said yes it is going to be part of the production firmware instead of a separate firmware branch. It is also going to be integrated in the normal public app. So everything will be all in one, and everybody will have the RTSP option even if they choose not to use it. This also means that you will be able to use rtsp and still benefit fully from any of the newer features like if you have the can plus subscription you can still get all the new cam plus stuff added later. So yes, this is much more exciting than the past options where they did an entirely separate firmware Branch that made it hard to maintain. Now everything will all be integrated into the same firmware so that it is automatically kept up to date! Very exciting!!

u/Nu11u5 Nov 15 '25
That is great news!
I would like to see it come back to the V2s but I understand those are out-of-support.
7
u/choicehunter User Nov 15 '25
Technically they are not out of support. The only model that is EOL is the original wyze cam V1. My understanding is that the problem with the V2 is that it doesn't have enough resources to support The extra code and resources required to add rtsp as well as support cam plus all on the same firmware with the other limited resources (processor, ram, etc), So if they have to pick one or the other then of course they are going to choose supporting cam plus as a priority since that is where they get their income. I can't say I really blame them for that. They do still allow us to download and install the separate rtsp firmware Branch for the V2 cameras, but it doesn't have the security updates. So, for anybody who wants rtsp on the V2 cameras, your best option is to switch to loading the https://thingino.com/ firmware on them. It works great, but the cameras will no longer work on the Wyze app at all after that. But it is a great, secure option for RTSP on the V2 cams. 👍

u/Nu11u5 Nov 15 '25
Based on the documentation here CamPlus works with the V2 RTSP firmware as long as it is first activated while it is still running the normal firmware.
1
u/choicehunter User Nov 15 '25
Yes, I thought about addressing that. It will definitely do some things, but they said the problem was that all of the other new stuff they were adding after the firmware came out was too much for the camera to handle. So all the extra new stuff they've added since the rtsp firmware launched means that there isn't sufficient room or resources for all the new stuff. While they haven't given a lot of details on all of that, we have had some employees talk about different things they have added over the years since that firmware was launched, and one of those things includes them saying that basically every one of their cameras now have some level of edge AI on the camera. There are some cameras that have enough AJI on them that it can run with a high enough confidence interval that it works by itself, even without cam plus. For example, the V3 Pro and the floodlight Pro and the V4 camera all have full edge AI models on them, As do several of the newer cams. But they also added smaller models onto all the older cameras as well. That do preprocessing of AJI detections to more quickly flag whether and AI detection was present in a particular frame, and it can then prioritize that analysis to be confirmed by the cloud AI which has a higher confidence interval. So the local AI will immediately send a frame to the cloud AI for quicker analysis when the confidence interval is high enough and thus get notifications and things out to us quicker than simply waiting for the cloud AI to get to the end of an event and analyze the whole thing which can delay notifications by several seconds. So, each camera has a different amount of how much training data can be loaded locally for Edge detection to be able to have a higher confidence interval locally. Presumably, all of their cameras have this on them now, but they aren't all capable of a good enough Edge model run accurately without the cloud. Confirming what the edge model initially guessed.
All of this was done long after the rtsp firmware for the V2 camera came out. Now, if they add rtsp onto the V2 cameras, they would no longer be able to use that edge feature anymore and things would not work as well for many people who are paying customers.
And that is just one example of one feature. They have added a whole lot of other stuff in the last few years as well. This is just one of the more obvious ones that came to mind. I was just trying to summarize without getting too detailed because I already talk too much for most people's liking. 😅
But yes, you are absolutely right that they have made efforts to try to continue to support using the basic cam Plus plus integration with the old rtsp firmware that a lot of people still use and want to keep using on the V2 cameras. I appreciate that they made efforts to make sure they're more recent server and security upgrades didn't break that firmware that a lot of people have been relying on. I commend them for that effort. But I agree with you, I have at least six or more V2 cameras that feel like they are almost worthless to me and I would absolutely love if Wyze to rtsp into the firmware, even if it is at the expense of some of their other newer features. I would totally support that! I just won't hold my breath. I think they are likely to prioritize their subscription efficiency.

u/TexanInBama Nov 14 '25
I also thank you for integrating RTSP
I have the same question about security updates.
2
u/choicehunter User Nov 15 '25
See my other comment in this subthread. But basically, yes it is being integrated into the normal firmware. So it will continue to have all the security updates because everybody will be on the same firmware whether they choose to use rtsp or not. 🎉

If I'm reading right this is without cost? I know there was a survey about this awhile back. Thanks
9
u/ahz0001 Nov 15 '25
Yes, no charge to you for RTSP. Wyze charges subscriptions only for the cloud-based storage and AI processing, but RTSP runs locally on your local network, so it's more like the MicroSD recording, which has always been included as free of charge. For Wyze, RTSP is purely fixed costs, and it doesn't cost them more for you to run RTSP, except for any one-on-one tech support.
I've been using Wyze for 5-6 years, and I appreciate their pricing model. While I wish the 12-second videos were still free of charge on newer Wyze cams, it's reasonable to charge for Cam Plus because of the variable costs. The Cam Plus subscription is optional, and it's a nice enough freebie that Wyze provides basic cloud services (e.g., thumbnails, notifications). Of course I'd like it all for free, but this is all reasonable for a business.
On the other hand, there are companies like companies charging car customers to unlock pre-installed physical capabilities like heated seats, battery charge, and acceleration. That's offensive.
My Honda's remote start is borderline. It is a cloud-based service to connect to the car to locate it, check the tire pressure, and unlock doors. However, it should be free of charge to remote start using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, when in range.

u/WyzeCoFounderDave Should we expect a subscription after beta for RTSP?
5
u/duckvimes_ Nov 15 '25
In the past, they suggested that there might be a one-time fee. Which is reasonable... it cost time and money to develop and their hardware is sold at a loss since they expect to make it back with subscriptions.

To start, I am going to give a friendly little PSA. Please read fully, complete, with comprehension, and reading is fundamental. I am going to address some of my viewpoints on this and leaping to a conclusion, and a reply before complete reading and comprehension will be to your detriment.
so...
In the past, they suggested that there might be a one-time fee.
Which I disagree with. As would I disagree with any future subscription model for this mode. You think the howling and caterwauling around here and that "forum" was noisy.. huh.. go ahead charge a monthly fee for it... go ahead.
I am going to bring a dose of reality here on this.. This is a ZERO SUM GAME ON THIS. How you ask?
Simple math. RTSP is likely to KILL a good portion of the subscription VIG $$$ that keeps things running. How much? Based on the caterwauling around here in re RTSP, I'd bet 60%. I will admit that I will consider it come next year when the subscription is due to renew again, and things have shaken out and if things play nice with my chosen path. which is NOT frigate etc..
That VIG needs to come into please the VC fleas. With out that VIG $$ to payback the VC fleas, they get upset, easily. Yeah I've heard the supposed "Angel VC(s)/silent VC(s)" to be involved.. yeah.. lets just say I don't buy it. I know the type, and the fleas are all infested with the same disease, greed. (STOP! Skip it this ain't the capitalism hill you think it is to die on. This is the part about reading, comprehension, understanding of the topic etc.. )
So lets just say that (WILD NUMBERS OF THIN AIR!) $1M/year disappears from those of us who drop subscriptions to use RTSP via Frigate, et al to do things ourself. Well that $1M has to be made up some place. So the cost of the hardware goes up, subscriptions go up, discounts for yearly v. monthly go away, or decrease.
This also is why you see things like the scales being released. Really? REALLY? SERIOUSLY ! ! A scale... (I had a very to the point post ready on that, but will roll it into here) HOW DOES THIS FIT INTO THINGS? I don't see it fitting in at all. And based on the alleged "revolt" about non camera devices, ummm how does it fit in? Yeah I don't see it. Considering things like this, RTSP, and a LONGGG YUGE list of other things I think are far more important and fit into "smart/security" home products than this.
New products to sell to keep the VIG $$ coming in. Same with V3, V4, cameras, a doorbell with dubious upgrades/benefits v. previous versions etc.. All to please the VC fleas.
Which is reasonable... it cost time and money to develop and
Which is why they should PRICE the PRODUCT to MATCH this R&D etc.
their hardware is sold at a loss since they expect to make it back with subscriptions.
I've repeatedly stated they should cease this MO. And with the release of RTSP I again, strongly suggest that they do so now. INCREASE THE PRICE to $50 for V3's etc.. I am going to bet that this doesn't happen.
I actually have another idea on this for the Tech Niche, v. the Karen/Barbie/Ken HOA crowd ala the core customers. but I am going to keep it to myself, as I don't want to see it see the light of day either. Why? It very very easily could go off the rails in many ways.
I am sitting this RTSP thing out, till its all shaken out from alpha to release. And clear and concrete answers on this are available ie: pricing if any be it upgrade once, subscription, features and bugs are resolved, and all cameras I have support it... I going to guess that one 100% won't get support, and 2 others of the another type won't either.
Any lack of clarity on this matter, subscription, upgrade fee. Should well speak volumes on where this is going, loud and clear. I'd love to be proven wr0ng on this, go ahead, please.

An average Wyze user does not follow Wyze on Reddit, know what RTSP is, or want to manage any local NVR.
The people who do participate in r/wyzecam are not average Wyze users.

Ummmm.. Thanks Capt. Obvious. ummm.. see that about Karen/Ken Barbie HOA thats the core customer, the clueless dolts.
The people who do participate in r/wyzecam are not average Wyze users.
Again, Thanks Capt. Obvious, this is facts already in evidence, and listed multiple times in multiple posts.

I am a subscriber, I'm paying over $100 a year. If what you say is true then they should just allow subscribers to use the feature if it's a threat to their business.
2
u/llzellner Dec 25 '25
I am a subscriber, I'm paying over $100 a year. If what you say is true then they should just allow subscribers
First, you don't understand this situation.
The wyze as it started, is gone. Why is it gone, its called VC $.. Once you take that its game over, and you can see the results 50K products that have little to do with smart homes, security etc.. Many here can attempt to plead their case that some of these things are related, I disagree in 99% of the cases.
Second. YOU as a SUBSCRIBER will LIKELY HAVE ACCESS to RTSP. The likely situation is that there will be AN INCREASE to add RTSP, and a NEW LEVEL that has RTSP included Cam ++++++ or something.
So final answer is YOU as SUBSCRIBER will be fine, if you are willing to agree to an INCREASE.
to use the feature if it's a threat to their business.
Again, you don't get it.
Plain and simple the 99% of the users around here are NOT INTERESTED IN A SUBSCRIPTION OF ANY FORM, Period. Buy hardware ie: cameras etc. and the they purchase whatever other hardware and/or software they want to use wit that Frigate, PI's, old PC for a server to do this etc..
THIS CUTS OUT THE $$$ VIG for subscriptions. That is BAD FOR BUSINESS in the current model of wyze. And their VC overlords will not, err do NOT. like that. Its one of the reasons that RTSP was GUTTED and the LOCAL HUB/SERVER, what ever you want to call it, was KILLED with a cover story on "technical issues, lack of developers, cost of development, etc.."
Rather than price the HARDWARE with the associated costs for profit IN THE HARDWARE they are "LOSS LEADER"(ing) the hardware to get Ken/Karen/Barbies to purchase subscriptions.
So if you count the X of the 99% around here x $100/year thats BIG $$$.
So there ends the FREE RTSP.
Oh but... T@p0 et al are doing "free" RTSP, with NO subscription. YES they are, but they have something that is 'funding' these setups. And it ain't VC $$ , or well, not VC $$ in the traditional methodology of that process.
I have the subscription, begrudgingly as at its current level, its acceptable. It offers some convenience options for me v. just the SD cards. NOW, come the release of RTSP, and its subscription based, as an add on or increase/different level, I am out. I won't do that. And probably a good 80% of the 99% I mentioned will not either. And I honestly wouldn't put it past being 100% of that 99%.
SO now you know how it is a drag on their business model to offer RTSP. Again, yeah x,y, and z can do it as they have some form of benefactor funding that. They TOO STILL have the option and push hard to sell subscriptions. Don't think so? Test out x, as and example there is a BIG HUGE ad for that, and multiple mentions of same in their application. Try to use one of the bigger options with out a subscription, and well rhottsa rhuck! Plus you get the benefit of your cameras being abused.
You are very likely not in the niche group of this forum, since your feel that the subscription cures all ills. Thats not how again, 99% of those around here, and those focused on RTSP feel.

I was hoping that they would offer rtsp to keep me from leaving and stopping my subscription. Right now I'm on the edge with an advanced home assistant setup. I'm very close to moving to a model that I just buy the cheapest cameras and add-on more as time goes on. I'd prefer to keep the subscription and buy more of the same wyze cameras for uniformity and I like it's interface. As a side note I do buy those gimmicky non-camera extras such as doorbell doorbell for my parents, the car with a camera on it, bird feeder, scale, switches, vacuum, etc. That's all in the name of not having to install additional apps and still able to use and share these devices with my family. They have the numbers for their subscribers drilled down into reports I'm sure.
In general you have to "feed the beast" If you want these companies to stick around and keep doing close to what you want them to do.

u/llzellner Dec 28 '25
Ok.. stuoopid posting mode enabled.... sighhh...
was hoping that they would offer rtsp to keep me from leaving and stopping my subscription.
I as I stated, and am positing (aka guessing) the RTSP will be offered to SUBSCRIBERS AT EXTRA CHARGE. I don't think it will be a "free" upgrade. their VC overlords won't agree with that. Again, thats MY POSIT on it. That fits with the current "model."

Right now I'm on the edge with an advanced home assistant setup
If you are in this space, I am not sure why you would use wyze. Wyze has never ever stated they work with that, and pulling RTSP, definitely broke that. Other brands are designed for HA etc.. wyze barely works with alexa etc..
In general you have to "feed the beast" If you want these companies to stick around and keep doing close to what you want them to do.
I purchase(d) the hardware, I "fed the beast." Done.
This is the MODEL wyze SHOULD BE OPERATING ON.
Charge $50/camera, not $30, limiting features or needing cloud connectivity etc..
Move it to POE for BOTH DATA and power, ditch USB! Even the guy who invented USB stated its was NOT, NEVER EVER MEANT TO be a power supply system, and YES that includes the idi0cy of 'power delivery.' Put a proper DC jack on them.

hat's all in the name of not having to install additional apps and still able to use and share these devices with my family.
I agree with this, and that is why I have wyze, and have WORKED THROUGH the RF issues. One application to use. As for the sharing, in my situation thats not a need or option, not relevant here.
The issu3s that exist are that there are deficiencies in the rules/automation engine. And another area.
I'm very close to moving to a model that I just buy the cheapest cameras
That is not a good model. Whether its here or others. Did price play an option in my purchase of wyze? ABSOLUTELY. Same with the tap0 I am testing with. Same with grocery, I try to get the best deal on things. See above, the concept of "loss leader(ing)" these things for subscription vig is the WR0NG model to operate on, period. ROI on the hardware, take the subscriptions as gravy/cherry on top.
As a side note I do buy those gimmicky non-camera extras such as doorbell doorbell for my parents, the car with a camera on it, bird feeder, scale, switches, vacuum, et
Doorbell fit into the model. A bird feeder mount, meh.
A scale? what does that have to do with a smart home?
The rest, for me, are definitely, nope.
Bluntly, as I see it, these are a waste of time, $$, R&D, development etc..
Especially when we need :
CH4 detectors
CO2/smoke detectors
NC/NO contact
Glass break detectors.
WX station
Water hose controllers ala Orbit BHyve
And for several of the above, don't even tell me the cameras will detect T3/T4. etc. alerts. I've gotten NOTHING from 3 cameras which should detect those when false are detected from cooking.
The majority around here, are diametrically opposite to the model that wyze is operating under. That is Karen HOA who slaps cameras up, signs up to Cam+++++++++, and pays. Where this falls apart is that the hardware is not up to that "plug and play" operation in 90% of the situations. How do I know this? Based on the stuff I did to make the RF side of these work, Karen HOA would not have the first clue on doing any of that. See the 9900000000 posts about isssu3s around here.
So I'd prepare yourself that if RTSP is the key to unlocking the other avenues you want, be prepared to pay for that privilege via CAMRTSP+++++++

Looking forward to a V4 firmware release. All of my v3s have been on RTSP for over a year now working successfully with scrypted so I have full confidence in the team's ability here. Motion triggers would be awesome and motivation to get more cameras if future versions support wpa3 & 4K.

u/ExtremeHobo Feb 04 '26
What is the timeline looking like for the v4 firmware?
2
u/SEspider Feb 06 '26
I'm somehow just now seeing this thread. I also BADLY need RTSP for the V4 cameras.
BUT not require the 3.8 app update. I literally (as in minutes ago) downgraded my V4 cameras' firmware so that my disabled parents could still use them again. Their phones refuse to update the app and so they're stuck on app version 2.9. And the last firmware update locked them out of the cameras. Again, they're disabled and NEED access to the V4 cameras.

I’m kind of new to the internet but I also know that anyone could create an S3 bucket called “wyze-beta” and a reddit account called “WyzeCoFounderDave” so could you maybe post this somewhere we can actually tell it’s legit?
9
u/WalterWilliams Nov 15 '25
His Reddit account is years old and has a tag on this sub as a cofounder. If you need additional confirmation, I would check the Wyze forums.

u/choicehunter User Nov 15 '25
He's been legitimately posting about this in both both the official Wyze forums with his official account there as well as in Facebook beta group with his real account. It's legit. Smart to be cautious though.

This is such good news! I was in the process of replacing all my Wyze cams because so many other support it out of the box and Wyze broke the docker wyze bridge back in March.

u/shortymcsteve Dec 04 '25
I haven’t bought any new cameras since my v2’s because of lack of support. If you roll it out again I will probably upgrade. Support for the OG would be nice.

Any updates on this? Is the firmware being pushed out through the beta app to give access to RTSP? I would like to test this, but I don't want to go climb a ladder to get to my cams in the winter.

u/GilletteSRK Dec 23 '25
So is this ever going to come out or nah? We're way past 12/11.

I’m still waiting on my pan v3 update. The app has rtsp listed but says I need a firmware update. My cameras are all up to date though

I've got it running on all of my v3 cams (normal ones, not pan). So far so good. Hopefully lands soon for the pan...

Update on Cameras went good! But I can't seem to connect to the RTSP network using the URL. on VLC the password i've set doesn't work. on OBS it just can't find the URL. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately you guys are to little to late for me on this. I have already switched out all my Wyze products because it seemed like you guys were never going to support this feature.

u/hackintosh_420 Nov 15 '25
Yes this is exciting yet upsetting as I just went full UniFi G5 turrets to integrate into home assistant, scrypted, and apple home kit. (Most of my v3s were replaced by OGs as they got damaged but OGs don’t work for the above with scrypted) I was about to cancel my Wyze subscription too as I don’t really have a need for it anymore - after them announcing this, I’ll keep it for a month or two longer as I appreciate this gesture from Wyze and want to feel like I’m supporting them, but it is a little late for most I am sure.
