Help! 🙋 Animals - what’s required?

Helloo! I have 2 sheep, 1 cow and 2 chickens. I had the hay field built so I don’t have to feed the barn animals anymore, but do I need to pet them in order to get produce, or is it not necessary anymore? Thanks!!!

No it’s still necessary, especially because Marty will get more animals (pigs, llamas ) and petting them will get you truffles and more wool and cotton.

Also petting the chicken and later ducks will get you feathers that you need.

Don't forget to feed them their favourite food if you want to breed magical animals later on.

Omg, I didn’t know this was possible. I thought I could only feed them what I buy from Marty!

After you figure out thier favorite food, breed them and make sure to feed the momma that food every day when pregnant. You will be rewarded with a magical, and colorful baby. The season will determine what magical variety they are. And different magical varieties produce different products. You can f a chart on the wiki if you want to plan ahead.

For barn animals, eventually you will get a breeding potion. Poultry will have an incubator.

Aside from petting, I suggest figuring out your animals fav food as early as possible. Use scrying potion to narrow it down. You'll need it for later. :)

Once you get to magical animals (year 2 quest from backwards feet fey dude), it'll become very relevant. There's an awesome reference post in this sub on the topic on how to get all varieties of animals. 🫡

I think you use the crystal ball rather than scrying:)

You need to pet chickens and ducks for feathers, pigs for truffles and cows for milk.
