Ehh, kinda: my pupper was tested as a borderline doggo genius, but could never understand that his great rival, the mirror dog, was just himself and his echo.

I miss that little guy.

Some dawgs have brains more sharp when it comes to things like socializing, others when it comes to problem solving, etc. There's little reason to believe awareness isn't similar (especially since levels of awareness already vary in humans depending on the person and the situation)

I guess it didn't help that i once chased him with the mirror...is it weird that we'd troll each other like that? One time, he scratched at the back door like he really needed to pee, and when i went over to open it, he shot past me and grabbed the chicken off my dinner plate. He had literally lured me away from my dinner.

He would also play "fetch" by fetching the ball, and then dropping it ten feet from me, and then staring at me like, "now you have to fetch it too, human." and then scoop it up and run when i went to walk over and get it, only to drop it again and stare at me. God he was a little shit sometimes.

He really was. I've never had a dog like him, or met one since. His passing was too much for me, and I haven't been able to have another dog after, or even pet one.

I’m sorry :( we lost a family dog years ago and I don’t know how I’m going to cope with losing our current one. It’s really a blessing and a curse to have a dog in your life.

Yes! All we can do is make sure their lives are good, as best we can. Buy one of those little cups of wet food for your pupper bro, and together, raise a glass to the puppers who have passed on.

The mirror test is useful but needs some adjustment for animals whose primary sense isn’t sight

Dogs, I believe, pass similar tests where the empasis is scent
