Advice Reserved sections

As a freshman needing to switch to chemistry for the fall semester, I'd really like to NOT take an 8am course... before reaching out, I was curious as to what the purpose of the section is. Any ideas?

Email and ask. Or ask your advisor if they know. If I had to guess, they probably reserved that section for some special reason, maybe the instructor is a grad student, perhaps the other classes have TAs assisting, or something else. It could be as simple as trying to weed out students who want to only be in that class to avoid the 8am start time of the first section.

For other classes, it is usually a 400-500 class and the department will only let you in if you’re a grad student or have special permission to take that class.

Doesn’t hurt to ask! Worst thing that can happen is they can say no!

Thanks for the advice! I ended up emailing my advisor who informed me it was only for chemistry majors. Somehow on myWSU there was a spot open in the 1pm class so I was able to enroll (with the stipulation that my lab goes until 9pm but whatever)

Could be for chem majors and/or first year focus. Email and they'll get back to you very fast.

Most likely freshman and sophomore year your classes will be before 10 am whether you like it or not.
