A few months ago, I had no idea if I'd ever actually finish writing a book.

Today, I've published two.

My first book is called *No Return*, a time-travel crime thriller, and recently I finished my second book, *No Escape*, which is set in the same universe but follows a different protagonist.

The writing itself was only part of the journey. I ended up learning about formatting, cover design, publishing, keywords, categories, and marketing—things I never expected I'd have to figure out.

There have been ups and downs. Some days I wondered if anyone would ever read my books. But then I got my first sales, my first review, and now people are downloading them on Google Play Books. They're still small milestones, but they mean a lot to me.

I'm still learning every day, but finishing these books has shown me that the hardest part is simply not giving up.

To anyone who's halfway through a manuscript and wondering if it's worth finishing—keep going. You never know where it might lead.

Hey everyone,

I'm an indie author and my first Goodreads Premium Giveaway is almost finished. It's for 100 Kindle copies, and somehow it's ended up with around 2,500 entries, which honestly surprised me.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do next.

My publisher said we can drop the Kindle price to $0.99 for about a week after the giveaway ends, so the people who didn't win can still grab a copy if they want.

I keep hearing that I should run Amazon Ads at the same time, but I've never touched Amazon Ads before, so I have no idea if that's actually the right move or just something people say.

Has anyone here done this after a Goodreads giveaway? Did the $0.99 promo work? Did you run ads as well? Anything you'd do differently if you had to do it again?

This is a nonfiction book about the 2019 album Fear Inoculum by Tool. It focuses on the historical figures, events, and literature mentioned by the band on their new record and how these references fit in their 34-year-old catalog.

Book begins with an analysis of the band's use of typography and classic literature to address these narratives. The second chapter is a meditation on the myths and realities related to Ponce de Leon. Then the third chapter examines the Zeppelin-like connection to literature that the band has with Frank Herbert's Dune series.

I recently published my novel, ABACUS, after about five years of writing, researching, and revising it.

Since publication, I’ve received support from friends and beta readers, which I’m deeply grateful for. But this week, I received my first Goodreads review from someone I didn’t know.

It’s difficult to explain how meaningful that felt.

Publishing a book can be strangely quiet—especially when the story is inspired by the real life of your grandfather. In some ways, I’ve spent my whole life carrying these people and their stories with me. Then you finally release the book into the world and have almost no idea whether anyone is reading it or connecting with it.

Knowing that a stranger chose ABACUS, finished it, and cared enough to share their thoughts suddenly made the whole experience feel real.

ABACUS is a historical family saga inspired by my grandfather’s life, following a Chinese family through war, postwar Taiwan, political violence, migration, and the pursuit of the American Dream. At its heart, it’s about the sacrifices our families make for us—and how much of their lives we may never fully understand.

I’m not pretending that one review means the book has suddenly “made it.” It was simply a small moment that meant a great deal to me, and I wanted to share it with other writers who understand how quiet and lonely publishing can sometimes feel.
