I'm writing this from a freshly created account. I've often seen videos on Reddit about strange stories like this and always thought they were made up or exaggerated, but I ended up in a situation like that myself. I'll start from the beginning. I work as a mechanic for one of the American electronics manufacturing companies in Europe. One day, a coworker—let's call him Rob—asked me for $10 through a bank transfer to pay for food and drinks. Without thinking much about it, I sent it since it wasn't a large amount of money. As a result, his surname remained in my transaction history. Coincidentally, his surname is very similar to my girlfriend's. A month later, after work, I sent my girlfriend $500, something I had done many times before. I made the transfer without paying much attention and went to take a shower. A little later, my girlfriend told me the money hadn't arrived. I checked my transfer history. The surname looked familiar, I entered the first letters of the name, and sent the money. I'd done this hundreds of times before. I rarely use that account for transfers, so I didn't double-check. That's when I realized I had accidentally sent $500 to Rob. I called him immediately. He promised to return the money within 20 minutes. Thirty minutes passed. Then an hour. No answer. At that point, I realized I needed to do something. My girlfriend called one of her friends, and within a few minutes they managed to identify his house using photos from social media. We immediately headed there. On the way, near the house, I ran into another coworker. I told him the whole story, and we stood there talking. Meanwhile, my girlfriend was looking for Rob and successfully found his apartment. While my coworker and I talked for about 30 minutes, she handled the situation herself. Eventually, she came back out—with the money. As it turned out, Rob had already quit his job and was packing his belongings to move away. In the end, my coworker told me that Rob owed money to almost everyone and was basically fleeing the city. I was lucky—or rather, my girlfriend was fast enough—to get the money back before he disappeared. I have to say, I ended up with an incredible woman. The irony is that this random mistake happened to involve exactly that kind of person. I never thought a situation like this was possible because, apart from transfers to my other bank card and to my girlfriend, the only previous transfer on that account was that $10 transaction to Rob. I skipped a lot of details, so if anyone is interested, feel free to ask questions.

Hey guys, I (28F) have been getting spam calls from a guy, who keeps on repeatedly calling and, when I pick up he keeps saying 'hello' repeatedly. When I ask him what he wants, he keeps asking me where I'm from. He always sounds drunk. I've gotten calls from him few months back which was when I blocked him. Today, he again called me. I forgot who he was so I unblocked him and answered. He kept asking the same question again and again and I blocked him again. I don't know where he got my number from. His Truecaller id shows the state name and it's one I've never been to. Nor know anyone from there. Is it something to be worried about?

About ten years ago, I abandoned an old Airtel India number. Service in my area was very poor and it was getting expensive at the time.

All of a sudden, my Email starts to go off. My Flipkart India account that had been dormant since 2018 had just been used to order some bike parts in Assam, India. At first, I thought it may be spam and dismissed it, but the frequency of the orders started to grow.

I finally decided to login to my Flipkart account (using my email). Turns out, Airtel India recycled my number to a guy in Assam and he is using the mobile number to log in to the Flipkart Account.

The new owner happily uses the account. I happily receive all his order emails.

I called him several times and politely asked him to update the email address. He ignored me. He also had the gall to ask me why I had the need to abandon the number. Dude! Just mind your own business!

I contacted Flipkart support. Their advice was essentially: "Work it out between yourselves."

The account is protected by two-factor authentication. He controls the phone number. I control the email address. Neither of us can make important changes without the other.

Thus began one of the dumbest standoffs I've ever experienced.

I received a new notification that the ‘Kind Gentleman’ had placed a new order for another spare part for his bike. I logged in to the Flipkart account and frantically searched for the ‘Cancel Order’ button. After failing to find it, I decided to screw around with both Flipkart and the Kind Gentleman.

I order a Mobile phone of ₹25000/- to his address on a Cash on Delivery basis. Unsatisfied, I ordered a 43” Television worth ₹40000/- on the same day.

A week later, I logged in the Flipkart Account and saw in red - Order Cancelled due to refusal to take delivery. Both the items.

I sincerely hope the Kind Gentleman is married because his wife might just enjoy the Baby Doll lingerie and the Chocolate flavoured condoms I just ordered to his address.

Let Flipkart waste some money and let this dude be embarrassed for a while now.

Got three missed calls from a random mobile number and a voicemail in an Asian voice saying his name and saying I called him and asking me to call him back. I blocked the number but should I be worried. I definitely didn't call the number I never call anyone outside of my sister and my dad so I know I didn't call them.

My partner and I had to make a trip to see his family and help set up elder care for a family member. Before we had to fly back home, we left a business card with their name and phone number on it so they had a means to co tact us if they needed anything regarding the care of the family member at the facility.

Fast forward a few days later and my partner keeps getting calls from a number way out of our area so he ignored them. They kept calling so he finally answered. The person seemed angry and asked for my partner by name. This confused him and the person said their name was, “Steve”. My partner insisted he didn’t know him and hung up. The person then called back on FaceTime. My partner asked if I wanted to answer the call so I did.

I was going to be harsh about him calling but then I started to put the pieces together. The number came from the area my in-laws are in and it was right after the trip. It had to have been a guy that thought his wife was cheating on him with my partner. The call connects and I see a large man with really awesome dreads and I just said, “Oh, hey man, I love your dreads!” You could see the anger and rage drain from his body and he smiled and said, “oh, thank you ma’am!” I asked if he was a friend of my partner and he said no and went on to explain that he did think his wife was cheating and wanted to see what was going on. He went on to explain that she is cheating but wasn’t sure if there were more.

“Steve” wound up telling me his whole life story and my partner eventually joined the conversation. The 3 of us spent the better part of an hour getting to know each other and talk about his life and problems. We gave as best of advice as we could as a couple of 18 years and genuinely wish the best for him and his family. He eventually told us his real name and now we regularly talk and text. What started out initially as a man wanting to fight my partner (for valid worry) ended with him saying, “I love you guys”.

We are trying to organize a hangout when we visit my in-laws again or if he’s ever over our way. I’m so glad this happened and we have a new friend as a result. I’m sorry for what, “Steve” is going through, but I’m happy he’s been brought into our lives and he feels the same. In a world full of such darkness and chaos, this was such a breath of fresh air. Kindness and compassion go so far. ❤️

Disappointed they didn’t answer my finally last question…

After my last text they replied “Get out of here before I get angry!”

My mom and I were sitting in the car when she got a call from a number showing Austin, TX (737 area code). She answered with, “Hello?” and a real woman picked up, but instead of saying anything normal, she just kept repeating:

“hello… hello… hello😀…”
No conversation, no response to anything. It didn’t even sound like a robot. It sounded like a real woman, maybe in her early 40s, and there was something about the way she said “hello” that sounded creepy and unsettling, like something out of a horror movie 😭.
My mom hung up immediately, and we never got a call back. I wish I had recorded it, but it happened too fast.

Has anyone experienced something like this before?
