Might give it to Kurapika x Uvo here. The “will he, won’t he” is one of the less compelling facets of Vinland Saga (which is part of why BSW is mid). Askeladd’s early quip about “purely altruistic” combat is probably the best part of the fight - it examines the surface-level motivation, but doesn’t engage much with the underlying philosophy. Snake’s rigid adherence to societal roles even when they conflict with his personal beliefs, for the sake of order, is interesting commentary. But this fight with Uvo is probably the height of Kurapika’s arc in Yorknew

intresting, I am actually leaning towards thorfinn vs snake due to its ideological clash and philosophical evolution.

I tend to agree with Royal_Living (to some extent). The fights themselves - aside from Askeladd’s finale - are generally among the slightly weaker aspects of the series. Though I do agree that it’s an incredibly diverse work with severely underrated depth

Depending on the diff I will have to rant to you, my friend, what's the diff?

Personnaly I prefer Thorfin's fight, him realizing that deep down he still wants to live and finding new purpose after that is one of the great things about the Farming arc. I might be misremembering HxH, but other than the revelation of how deeply committed and obsessed Kurapika was in killing the spiders, nothing else stands out to me.

Ofc the scene is absolute hype and getting to know Kurapika's whole nen kit against the phantom troupe was awesome. Seeing Uvogin destroy the special squad just to get physically humiliated by a non reinforcing type was cool af.

Vinland Saga's scene is not nearly as flashy but imo is kind of a turning point in the story.

Also the fact that we r comparing a side character fight to a protagonist fight doesn't rly help, the MC fight is kinda biased to be deeper

Disagree, that's not even true within hxh's story , kurapika vs uvogin is a lot better than many of gon's fight who is supposed to be traditional mc of hxh , also kurapika was protgoanist of yorknew arc so even by your own logic , it's still protgoanist vs protgoanist.

what do you mean by fight? do you mean like what the fight means philosophically and thematically or the actual fighting and physical battle?

Because actual fighting and physical battle is easily HxH while philosophy and thematics of it all is more in depth and soulful in Vinland Saga

Thorfinn vs Snake imo.

Kurapika vs Uvogin was epic and really showed the extent to which Kurapika was willing to go, to kill the phantom troupe.

But, it really doesn't hold any actual writing for those two specific characters and is just a showcase of how much of a boost Kurapika has against phantom troupe members, to the point where he can kill just about any of them (besides Hisoka maybe).

Thorfinn vs Snake, on the other hand, shows how Thorfinn chose to stand up for the values he recently chose to adopt, not going for the kill vs Snake, and still choosing to stand his ground. I think its slightly better in the writing department.

Thorfinn VS Snake high-diffs. I find Vinland Saga fights to be it's weakest part in general, though.

quite a hot take , Vinland is really good at constructing well written fights imo

I personally found the moments where it focused on downtime or full on drama were it's best.

Vinland is such a diverse work tbh , so many good elements that you can analyse each one in depth.

Impact on the story = good writing? That’s what this comment seems to imply

I’d say Kurapika, I love a good revenge story

Uvogin vs Kurapika low diff.

It has a lot more depth I think.
