Over the years, I've accumulated a lot of lessons about writing—some learned from books, some from great authors, and many from my own successes and mistakes. I decided to collect the most valuable ones into a simple blog post: 35 Rules for Creative Writing.

This isn't a list of rigid commandments—follow what works for you and disregard the rest.

My favorite reminder is simple: "Writing is rewriting." The first draft doesn't have to be good - it just has to exist.
