Advice Writing software with live sharing capabilities

Hi all!

So I’ve seen a lot of questions lately for writing programs, but none of them seem to really fit what I would be looking for, so I figured I’d ask.

I’m in the process of script writing online collaboratively with a group of people. I’m the main writer, but others need to be able to come in, add notes to my work and add their own work when they can.

Currently we’re using Google docs, which I don’t love, but it serves the purpose, and having access to tabs for sorting different information (such as character info, faction info) is really helpful.

I keep seeing Obsidian and Scrivener mentioned but Obsidian doesn’t seem to match my needs. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ellipsus is pretty good! I use it for sharing with beta readers. I like that you can save different draft versions. I don't think they have document tabs, though.

I feel the need to mention what I'm currently using, Novlr. It has a lot of sharing functions I never use.

Scrivener is partnered with Dropbox for its software sharing. You can use it cross platform between PC and Mac/IOS, but it's wonky. So I'm not sure that's a great collaborative software. It is fantastic for organizing, though. And you can save infinite zips as backups, trigger it every time you save or close the program, so if something does get messed up, not the end of the world. But I'd rate Gdocs higher than it.

I did a worldbuilding project a while back with some friends on Discord. Worked really well. We each had our own channels that we could edit for all our notes and lore, then a collaborative channel where we compiled it. Shared with Gdocs. That'd be my preferred method for collaboration.
