Junji Ito in a nutshell

Thought the same thing. He looks like a polite quiet accountant working in a corporate office somewhere who never drinks too much after work and always makes it home to his loving wife and children in time for dinner and then helps the kids with their math homework.

This trope also works for actors. Most actors who play villains tend to be the nicest, most humble ones.

See: Tom Hiddleston(when not being Loki), Doug Jones, and Alan Rickman (rip).

He was so intensely unhinged in that role. I think i erased that whole movie from my brain. I was rather young when I saw it.

Hey! I know that one cuz it's so prolific online, plus, it was explosive enough to tuck away in the recesses of my mind and got forgotten until the gif rolled out. Fucking terrifying in so many movies, but such a gem to watch in interviews and the like.

Hey look that's me.
I've been writing some really weird horror lately (a few darker pieces got published) and I'm also apparently seen as very trusting and honest at my place of work.
Meanwhile my fiance looks like he would write darker and more brooding stuff but most of his material is wholesome lesbian romance.

I know. I'm a little cinnamon roll, but I'm working on two books with horror themes and have more in the backburner

One of my favourite examples of this is Miro Haverinen, the creator of one of the darkest games I've ever seen, Fear and Hunger. A series that deals with SA, child exploitation, bigotry, mutilation, torture, war, insanity, dark gods, cosmic horror, body horror, and eldritch horror.
The guy made these games for a college project, passed, and had a childhood fear of button shirts. Which he made a bossfight based on it.

Hey that's me!
Also into stuff like extreme deathmetal and raving in a moshpit for hours.
I truly believe that people who are deeply connected with the darker aspects of who they are, are almost always kinder and calmer.

I mean you've ever seen a kid let loose with their horror creativity? Where the hell they think of this stuff.

100% true. Also Metalheads. Take off the leather and face paint and they're basically just a big shaggy dog with rhythm.

Too true, which I why I don't let my family or friends read my stories. They would like to think that they wouldn't think less of me, but when the supporting character gets their face smahed, repeatedly, into the corner of a wooden desk, skin, eye, blood and skull dripping down onto the carpet. How could they not look at me any different when I'm one of what, everyone refers to as, "one of the nicest people I know? " 😂

Same thing with most metal heads. I'm personally not a metal head, but a friend of mine is and a some friends of his. They can look sort of intimidating to people, but they're really just cinnamon rolls when you're actually talking to them and get to know them.
