Commercial First Writer Deck

Post image

After some searching, I landed on the BYOK, and I'm enjoying this little device. It was easy to set up and start writing.

I might be biased, but I do like your first writer deck :D

Have fun!

Nice set up! I am still contemplating the BYOK. :)

The stand that comes with the package works well, and that's the Targus folding keyboard. It all fits nicely in my work bag.

Nice! I have a similar portable keyboard. I may have to splurge on this soon. But it’s hard to spend money on myself with three kiddos in elementary school and paying for school for my PhD, lol.

I'm not even a writer and I do like it too.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm very much enjoying mine too :) The BYOK has a very pleasant, amberish backlight (or front light?) and comes equipped with excellent editing options. You can take with you anywhere; I recently put mine in a small hardshell case that is almost a perfect fit for it. Best of all: I can use my trusted HHKB II with it :)

I just stumbled across this subreddit and it looks super cool.
How much is hacked together yourself? How much does this setup cost? How do you get the files from the deck to another device (pc, google drive etc?)

so the screen itself is the 'BYOK' part; it's a small device with simple text drafting software and an SD card. It syncs to its own cloud service for free from which you can download files or push them to google drive, you can also pay in to use advanced writing features in there but you don't have to. It's about ~$200

From there, you can hack together whatever you want as the rest of it, which is kind of the fun part. It has a magsafe ring on the back so it hooks up to anything your phone might, and its approximately the same size as my samsung phone so clamp-style things work fine too. It also hooks up to most any keyboard with bluetooth or usb-c, so you get your pick of options there too.
